Echo the sentiments of my fellow faithful above - I’m absolutely gutted!

He scores goals and creates ‘em. Such a simplistic assessment of a winger but they’re few and far between at this level.

I’d welcome King Charles back here, but it would make a mockery of his decision to leave in the first place (geographical reasons). Which is nonsense in itself, as the East Coast isn’t fucking miles away, is it. Which is why I don’t think he’ll return - I don’t think we’ll even be interested, tbh.

I expect Stephen Gent to pull another gem out the bag.

Yeah I can't see Vernam leaving Lincoln. Surely he's good enough to be given a full season with them in L1.

He certainly believes in his ability, but he’s been a failure thus far at that level - let’s be honest.

He seems the player that would never return to a club where he’s previously played - which is fair enough.

Obviously, Tyreik Wright will be replaced; but if he isn’t, we all seem to forget that Harry Chapman was signed as a LW, not a CAM. Now Jamie Walker is back, Chapman should just slide into his natural role - with Abo Eisa/Scott Banks/Dion Pereira on the right.

There’s still plenty of quality in the squad.

Vernam isn't a L1 level player. On a very good day as a one off performance he might be mid-table L1 but that's it. Not through lack of effort he just doesn't have the quality or any stand out attributes to affect the game at L1 level. I think he's scored once in the Pizza Cup and has no assists that I can recall.

We'd need to sign a couple of players for him to leave because we currently only have 3 wide players after Garrick went back to Swansea (and then sold to FGR), and there's talk of Diamond returning to Sunderland, which would then leave two wingers and arguably one of those is more of a central player rather than a wide player per se.

Can't imagine we'll look to shake up the final third but we'll need to sign before we let go due to lack of numbers already. That's assuming we'll let him leave anyway, which I'm not sure we will.

Apparently Plymouth will be signing our loanee Tyreik Wright. That's a massive blow for us because he's quality. He's also the only player aside from Cook who scores in this team so this could be a serious problem if we haven't got something lined up.
Er, news to me though I know there was at least one more in the pipeline. Tell us more, I don’t even know from whence he comes, what position or type of player?

Left footed winger. Right, left or even as a second striker he's more than comfortable. Real pace and directness about his play but he's got a good intelligence about his game, makes good decisions and technically very good. Massive loss for us because he's also our second top scorer.

Cheers, sounds like he might be a Whittaker replacement at no 10, especially if he is left-footed too.

More incomings this week, Brad Walker not one of them according to Curle.

“This might give us a bit more money to get certain things over the line. The chairman won’t thank me for that but he knows I mean it in good spirit.”
Flynn today could mean DJ?

If by DJ, I assume you mean Jayasimi from Charlton? Signed by Charlton from us and on his day was dynamite. However, and i'm aware supporters of previous clubs always say this, they were not quite "few and far between", more spasmodic. However there's every reason that he would be a good signing for league 2.

Need defensive bodies in this week, no excuses from the stakeholders, I'm not watching Tumility pretend to be a footballer anymore.
Squad option perhaps but he had the pace of a slug 10 year ago god knows how he'll be now. Usual concerns for me, after the disastrous Jock shock project, revert to type, players from the area who are willing to take a pay cut, loans from the Borer, unwilling to pay the going rate. Still time I get it, call me cynical but we can probably guess how the window will turn out.

I can see where your coming from, willing to see where we land at the end of January, I think Dolan is a good start, loads of League 2 experience, Featherstone replacement for me, either this season but certainly next and I have no issues with the Hartley signing, that defence needs a rough head in it, sometime to drag them up and down the pitch, bark orders and show some much needed fight.

I think sheff We’d are in pole position, only reason I put it up is because it’s so unusual these days for any transfer information to come out
Supposedly him coming here is a done deal.

In other L2 news, is there anything in the rumours about Joe Garner going back to Cumbria, Carlisle fans?

I’m not sure. We are looking for a forward as we have some long term injuries, but I think it may be a case of people seeing him left out of fleetwood’s squad yesterday and putting 2 and 2 together.

Someone on our forum who is a bit of an ITKer mentioned it a few days ago.

I thought you would be knocking on the Mackems' and Geordies' door as well for loans.

We're in their bad books. They don't offer us their best prospects but whenever we do get someone (handful of exceptions) they aren't good enough so they don't play or get shunted to a different position.

Not sure if garnet is the type of forward they need at present as they need pace and a bit of dribbling skill.

Although I suppose just a forward who isn’t injured is a good start! Garner always had passion which is a good thing to install to a squad.

Our current links are MacGillivray and Stockley from Charlton, along with Jack Bridge of Southend.

I imagine all three would be upgrades on what we currently have, although none of the three scream long-term planning.

Long term planning goes out of the window when you're in the position we (Crawley & Gillingham) are in. Get out of the bottom few places before the end of the season then have another look.

I just we had some rumours of players lined up.

You and Dale just need to stay in the league this year. We have lost enough traditional clubs in recent years.

Playing wise our current needs are short term.

Long term planning can wait until summer. And best it does. If we are NL by then, it will need a completely different plan.

True, I'm aware that current needs dictate the strategy. I just don't want us to spend a lot of money on people with no sell on value to keep us up if it means they're hanging around the club longer than needed in the future.

Maybe I'm just a tad pessimistic because we just aren't used to be a fee-paying club and it scares me!
