Crewe have bravely paid us money for Elliott Nevitt. So that's four players out and none in thus far for a squad already very short of attacking options. I gather the plan until May is to not play a striker, draw every game nil nil and then hire a new manager and sign a new squad?

Have they got release clauses do you know? That’s how our other two signings have got over the line I believe

Apparently 50k for Hawkins. Not sure why we'd accept that, he is 31 soon but we're very short at centre back and he's been ever present there, and he's also our best option upfront but we only throw him there when we're chasing a goal. Baffling.

Laps could be going to L1, that's for 50k too allegedly but he's out of contract in the summer so we've been resigned to losing him this month.

Nevitt didn’t kick on as much as hoped, but still a more likely scorer than Mumbongo. Another 4 to go if itk source on the forum is correct. Don’t recall many situations where a side has made such wholesale changes in mid-season with a positive outcome, without a big wedge of cash. I am seriously concerned that we’ll end up in a relegation scrap.

In the 2 years Lee Angol was contracted to us I think he was fit for only 6 months in total of that period - 3 seperate long term hamstring injuries when he was with us, I was suprised he ended up at Bradford.

Our young on loan Chelsea striker Jayden Wareham has gone back there, had talent but very raw and after the start we had he was never going to dislodge Charlie Kelman or Aaron Drinan. Scored twice in PJT though, wouldn't be suprised to see him back on loan to another club in this league.

Now it begs the question - What will we do with Harry Smith, as Wareham was his replacement. Will we use him as a bit part player or let him go. He was at our game on Saturday, so I am assuming he will be on the bench.

Looked good versus us, but then again we're awful so doesn't take much. As long as hes anything close to mediocre he will be a massive upgrade on Sambou.

Would he be able to play for a non-EFL team or is he basically done for the season bar the occasional Orient appearance?

If you set up like Micky Mellon and ping balls into his chest, he's absolutely useless. He's also not the most streetwise of footballers and lacks the sense of where and when to make a run, giving away a ridiculous amount of stupid free kicks in the process. Good finisher though, I don't think we ever played to his strengths in that regard.

Agree.
Anyone is better than Tumilty & Shelton at right back.
Really happy with this signing, the Boro fans I work with said he's a cracking player.
I'm really pleased and a bit shocked we got him full time, it is good to see some longer term planning. Obviously has potential if he was bossing the NLN. Step up in club and level for him, loads more pressure, particularly over the next few weeks. Hopefully he'll smash it but if he doesn't yet, fans and club need to be patient.

we still want Danny Johnson
I'd like to think he's on our radar. Now we see how others down the bottom are signing, we need to go big as well. We're no threat to Mansfield at the minute so maybe they'll be happier to deal with us.

Surely Mansfield wouldn’t let Hawkins go considering how short they are at centre half?

The problem being is clough lost it after the playoffs and didn’t move on with adding to the squad.

You’re the perfect example (to date) of what a side should do after playoff disappointment, he’s having a mare.

What’s unclear is that as we’ve a DOF (sharpe) it may be out of his hands.

I reckon the radfords could be off in the near future.

Either way, it’s just odd, something doesn’t add up.

Seems a fairly smart signing on the face of it for Crewe given their weaknesses. With the signings some of those down the bottom have been making I was thinking they are very much at risk of being SUCKED IN.

Don’t get me wrong Oli Hawkins can make a mistake at centre-back (considering he’s a striker) but he’s a really good player for L2, fantastic in both boxes.

He needs pace at the side of him though, upfront or at centre back. I’m a bit bemused by all this, I mean if he is not keen on a new contract and wants to go back down South then I suppose it makes sense to cash in but we already are ridiculously weak at CB.

If Lapslie doesn’t go to L1 and signs for a fellow L2 side I’ll be very disappointed to say the least.

the only reason he’d go to gillingham is if they’re offering daft wages there’s no other plausible reason why he’d leave for a fellow league 2 club to relocate to a club more or less in france!

I worry about any of the better players leaving us as cloughs transfer record is about -5 of out 10

Definitely deserves criticism for signing players to old, although I think it’s also fair to say he’s been a tad unlucky with injuries.

He might want a plausible chance of getting back into League One within the next couple of years, rather than staying with a club who love to get close and then bollock it up every year...

We're having a blip of a year but we're a good sized club for League Two level, let's not get that wrong.

Touched a nerve

I don’t think that was even Adam intention. Location and more money seems the logical reasons, not a better chance to get in to L1.

Would John and Caz just cut their losses and walk away from Field Mill or would they be wanting their money back when they sell up? Could make things messy/tricky to sell.

Also if you're splashing the cash in L1/L2 this window then Lapslie for 50k is a right bargain.

No nerves touched, I was taking the piss - we've been above Mansfield for 27 years until this season, once we're sorted I fully expect to get back to League One within the next couple of years tbh.

I would expect so too, but if this move happens I doubt that’s what Hawkins is thinking.

about to say, someone’s not had their morning coffee

Hawkins is hardly likely to move to all the way down to gillingham thinking “ooh there’s a chance i might get into league 1 the next few seasons”

I was more referring to Lapslie than Hawkins to be fair, based on the comments from Stags fans that he should be going to League One club if anyone.

Hawkins is what he is, I imagine he'll do ok here though.

Yeah, i agree with that stance.

We’ve always seemingly had a problem with injuries seemingly

Fair, tbh i was surprised when we got him, and yeah he’s pretty good for this level, like most players though sadly clough isn’t always playing him in the correct position (or at all) which is baffling to us all (i think he’s slowly losing it tbh) so whereas he’d be a great signing for gillingham it would send completely the wrong message to the stags fans in what our ambitions going forward are.

Maybe after too many seasons of cocking up (as you point out) the chairman has got bored
