Would he be able to play for a non-EFL team or is he basically done for the season bar the occasional Orient appearance?
Pretty much that, would imagine he will be used as an impact sub until his deal ends at the end of the season. He won’t be offered a new contract here, Wellens prefers quick technical forward players as opposed to targetmen who aren’t the quickest and can’t press for sustained periods.

Speaking of Oli Hawkins - I know Kenny Jackett tried to sign him for us in the summer of 2021 - but he opted to sign for Mansfield, which then led us to getting Harry Smith from Northampton.

Jackett had Hawkins at Portsmouth, so the link to this deal is believable.

So Morris then  Are the fan who has a proper ITK connection?

Curle on Morris

When asked about Morris, Curle told the Mail: “I know Bryn, I took Bryn to Northampton. I spoke to him three or four weeks ago.”

Asked if there were any legs in that as a potential deal, Curle added: “Any legs? Bryn’s got two. Bryn was here before wasn’t he? But I don't fully understand if Bryn has been made available.

"I did have a conversation with him about how he was doing at the football club and whether he was enjoying it. I think he started well, was in the team, and then had a period of time where he got injured and came out of the team, the team picked up a couple of results and did okay and he hasn't been able to get back in the team.

"The last two or three weeks I haven’t seen if he’s got back in the team and been playing.”

I didn't mind Morris here, has ability but is always knackered, rarely gets past 20 games a season.

Pretty much sums his time here so far up. I think if he's fit all the time he's a L1 player. He wasn't out for long when he got injured, but he's looked sluggish since so he perhaps doesn't recover well. Start of the season he was great, he's a good all rounder in the middle of the park which is somewhat of a commodity at this level. I'd love to him here and fully fit and in form for the second half of the season.

I'm really pleased and a bit shocked we got him full time, it is good to see some longer term planning. Obviously has potential if he was bossing the NLN. Step up in club and level for him, loads more pressure, particularly over the next few weeks. Hopefully he'll smash it but if he doesn't yet, fans and club need to be patient.

Agree.
Anyone is better than Tumilty & Shelton at right back.
Really happy with this signing, the Boro fans I work with said he's a cracking player.
He did really well for us. Gets forward well, and good athlete. Wasn't tested that much defensively with us doing well this season, so will be interesting to see how he does in a team that is not necessarily on the front foot a lot of the time. Can cover at Centre Back as well. Is Sterry out for a while then?

We don't get told how long our players are out, maybe because we've not had a medical team longer than 5 mins at a time. Sterry often has niggles and would be playing every week otherwise.

Good athletes are just what we need. The squad resembles one of Raj's care homes.

Given all these players Gills are signing, it's a shame our game on 17th December was postponed! Probably would have shat all over them in that game but now they're going to put up a decent fight it seems

Speaking of Harry Smith, I was told in November we were going to give it another crack with him in January but heard nothing since. Do you think he’d be free to a good home?

I would imagine Wellens and the club will let him go, but he has already played for ourselves and Exeter this season, so we’re not sure if he can play for another club this season.

He cut short his loan at Exeter due to home sickness so I can’t see him moving too far from his Kent home.

No-ones really 'shat all over' us all season to be honest, we tend to lose by the odd goal and have been (in the main) reasonably competitive. Couple of 0-3s but that's been it, no absolute spankings, even from the 3 Premier League sides we've faced.

Looks like what been offered to Hawkins is just impossible for us to stand in his way without causing a lot of bad will. It’s a loss but I suppose all about how we replace.

He might want a plausible chance of getting back into League One within the next couple of years, rather than staying with a club who love to get close and then bollock it up every year...

We're having a blip of a year but we're a good sized club for League Two level, let's not get that wrong.

League 1?. You will be playing in the National League next year

Manager Nigel Clough said: “We’re sad to see Oli go, but he has a young family and is going back down south. The transfer is therefore as much for personal reasons as anything else.

“I think he’s been absolutely brilliant for us in the past 18 months. I think the offer Gillingham have made him was too good to turn down.

“From our perspective, there’s a desire to go younger with the squad. So there’s a range of factors that come into it.

“In an ideal world, we’d have liked him to stay and Hawks said that he would have loved to stay here but with all factors considered, it was very difficult for him not to go.”

He added: “I think it’s good business for the club and we’re hopefully getting a couple of defenders in’

Think it’s fair to say he goes with the majority of stags fans well wishes.

Cheers for that, I’m slightly confused by where he normally plays though, a striker who can also play in defence or the other way round?

So throughout his career he’s a striker who can play in defence but Clough turned him to a defender that can play as a striker.

I’ll guess he’s more likely to be a striker for you, but can do a decent job either end. Can be a bit of donkey with the ball in defence, you don’t want him pressed but to be expected by a 6ft 7 player.

We are being heavily linked with Ayoub Assal. Any Wimbledon fans? Or anyone who’s played against him this season got opinions on him? I’ve seen some decent hype about it but haven’t seen him live.

‘We’ve conceded too many goals this season and need a defender. Alfie’s a proper defender. One of the problems we’ve had is that we’ve had people play back there who aren’t natural defenders and he’s a natural defender.

At least Clough realises how silly it is relying on midfielders and strikers to form our defence now

I'm sure i've read he prefers playing CB these days.

He is a great signing if you need someone at the back to sort out long balls like we did last season. His problem is he's pretty bad on the ball and struggles against quick or wide players!

I really hope despite being dissapointed to lose Hawks, that we now go back to 4 at the back in the long run.

Laps to Ipswich

Brad Walker signs for us.
As I said to Hartlepool fans, decent player, great range of passing and had he not got injured we'd have probably gone up auto.

Isn't blessed with Pace so if he has a ratter (like Garrity for us) with him it works well. Only downer is his injury record but wish him all the best.

I would place a sizeable amount of money on that not being the case.
I don't think you will either. But its going to be close. Also what happens if your new players don't jell ?
