I reckon Jackett, Hesentahler and Harris will have drawn up their list of targets some while ago.
I can confirm that they definitely did do this. Deals have been in motion for quite a while already, benefit of being basically safe with a month to go.

Gillingham apparently want Tucker back. 3 months ago I would have been delighted at the thought, but he’s really stepped up recently and the back 3 we currently have would be right up there in league 2. Hopefully this is the one summer we refuse to sell those important players with the hope of going straight back up

Doubtful. I’m not sure that Nixon is very reliable either.

I'd imagine our first choice pairing is already set with Ehmer and Masterson, so no guarantees Jack would be an absolute first choice, good though he is. Can't see us playing a back 3 as Harris doesn't like to, so I can't see this one happening personally.

Thought it was only Nixon and that O'Rourke that ever get anything right
Nixon’s more North West based, so anything there is basically more accurate than talking about a deal between Buckinghamshire and Kent.

That’s not to say he’s never right outside of the north west though.

If some on here are a bit annoyed at Gillingham’s spending power then just wait until Wrexham start bringing their Summer signings in.
It does seem to be the Mansfield fans, who didn't have a problem when they were outspending everyone else a few seasons ago.

Yep, and then ended up with a transfer embargo shortly after returning to the league I think

You lot firstly need to chill out and accept the summer of wages, and secondly not make up transfer embargos.

I apologise, it was a self imposed embargo. Sorry for my confusion/shit memory

‘The club also imposed a transfer embargo on themselves following a significant cut in the budget made available from chairman John Radford.’

Yeah in the second season back in the EFL we had a budget around £800/900k probably on par with the other two lowest budgets in the league at Stanley/Morecambe. Like SoC said we have been at both ends of the spectrum.

We never outspent anyone, though we’ve had a decent wage structure which we’ve sadly not taken advantage of.

One year we nearly got relegated, i can’t imagine how awful it would be to be back down in that godforsaken shithole playing the crown & anchor every other weekend.

Poor take.

Nobody has a problem with Gills going for it, it’s when the fans claim players are joining for some sort of vision rather than the fat pay check.

Edited for accuracy.

Big Dunc has been up in Scotland scouting, unfortunately one of our rumoured targets he was watching, Grant Savoury of Queens Park, did his ACL the other night.

Hopefully with him back this week we can at least sort out our retained list.

First rumour for us now we’re back - David McGoldrick.

We'll hear this one every year until he's 45. Assume Derby will be desperate to keep him so I'd be very surprised... this summer

Yeah I’d be surprised when he’s got a presumably very nice offer on the table from Derby and is still doing the business at the top of League One. It’s been an open secret for years that he wants to end his career back here though, so it’s possible.

He actually met with the club last summer before he got the Derby offer, would’ve been very funny in the NL.

Maybe someone needs to tell him what happened with Hartlepool last summer.

Apart from maybe Plymouth have many lower league English teams benefitted from recruiting out of Scotland?
We have had a few but most, if not all, have been total duds

We got Nicky Cadden from Morton & Regan Hendry from Raith. Two quality players.

Others like Kyle McAllister who we got from St Mirren and Dylan McGeouch who was a free agent that last played for Aberdeen had both previously played in England before going back up north, have also done well for us especially McGeouch who is a cut above most of our squad.

Also had Jack Aitchison on loan from Celtic (and then on loan from Barnsley) who was quality.

We’ve done well out of Scotland I would say.
