Flynn seems to know how to get a tune out of DJ, so I'd have him at Swindon for sure. Could he play up front with Charlie Austin? Less sure.

Yeah that does not seem like a good idea.

DJ is purely someone you need to get the ball to him in the box and he knows where the onion bag is, but otherwise a passenger who offers nothing so you have to get it spot on.

Which is a little bit what we did with Jephcott this season. Time will tell but I'd be happy with Johnson given he got 12 goals for Flynn this season.

The Mansfield lot are quite strange, they’re not going to admit that he’s any good either, they’ve already got ‘better’.

I think DJ is a good goal scorer, but he’s not quite what some on here make out, ask Orient fans. Don’t understand the cope, a bit weird for you to make out the club did poor business in January when it obviously was the opposite.

I seem to recall either our CEO or Clough saying it’s well over £100k now you avoided relegation aswell, not bad for two players with six months left.

Already said I can see DJ getting 20 next season, he's a good player under the right manager.

Are you going to crow on about wages all summer? It’s going to be a little tedious if so.

It was just a question, but I’d wager Hawkins, Lapslie and Johnson would have got you in the playoffs.

2 you sold for a combined fee less than £100k, and one you loaned out in this division. What on earth is your club doing?

We got 160k for both Laps and Hawks and replaced them with Kilgour who is certainly better as we were using Hawks as a centre half. DKD isn't a bad repalcement for Laps either. Wouldn't say we missed either in the end despite both being good players, now if Kilgour had signed and Hawkins went up top you might have a strong point.

Johnson didn't want to be here, would only sign for Walsall in Jan, but also only wanted to sign until the Summer so they weren't prepared to pay what yourselves and Colchester were offering for him.

At the time they were 4 points behind us with 3 games in hand, I'm glad we were in a position where we've not had to bend over and sell.

He comes across as a spoilt brat, it's the club/management he's got a problem with but a few times hasn't acknowledged the fans even when they were signing his name as he warmed up on his first game back here.

I have made two comments, mainly because I havent seen a fanbase so triggered by having a decent budget (you should try and enjoy it)

Hawkins and Laps left because they wouldn't sign new deals due to the wages you were offering. I think Clough wanted to sell DJ but our chairman decided against it, a little tinpot but that's Mansfield for you.

Oh come on mate, you've been around these parts long enough to know that it will be getting crowed about for the entire summer and then some. I'd advise you to just admit and embrace that you're Going For It© and start calling everyone else jealous.

Well he is a good player but what on earth makes you think he would come here?

We need a back to goal forward and an energetic midfielder.....and about ten other players.

He needs an easy ride from his manager so Lindsey/Garner would suit.

Soon as they offered Lapslie an extra £200k it was all fair game. The summer of wages is upon us.

If some on here are a bit annoyed at Gillingham’s spending power then just wait until Wrexham start bringing their Summer signings in.

Let’s see, if Gillingham are willing to offer Oli Hawkins thousands upon thousands of pounds, a condo in Margate and a reach around in the local titty bar they may have some competition.

Exactly, Stocky's spreadsheet has a team of data interns working on it this summer. I actually don't even like football, I'm just here for the transfer windows.
Some lovely Mansfield - Gillingham BEEF stewing up here…….
The Mansfield lot are professional BEEF stewers, they've seen and done it all from both sides of the wage budget argument at multiple levels for over a decade. Gillingham have been sitting pretty in League One with just the occasional nutbag to deal with. It's different ballgame down here though, there's a whole host of saddos who know exactly how much wages everyone is on and if you sign another League Two player mid-season it's instant scrutiny.

Think Mansfield and Salford have both proved big spending doesn’t automatically mean instant success.

I think the best example was Notts County spending £500k in one summer on transfer fees, only for the chairman to accidentally get his knob out on twitter and get relegated to non-league.

If there's gonna be BEEF in the future can you let us know in advance so I can get a bottle of red to enjoy it with?

Can't see us bringing too many in 5 or 6 maybe but I reckon will go big. Still don't agree with bookies making us favourites for anything though.

We've been linked by various papers/websites etc for about 50 players already. Almost all rumours seem to be coming from other clubs rather then anything our end also

Worked for Gillingham though - went from being the worst team in EFL history, the chairman drops a cool £750k on new players, and they’re suddenly comfortably mid-table.

Oh don’t you start, don’t really want any Barra BEEF

(I actually heard it was closer to £7.5m)

We are in for him as well apparently regardless of who is manager.

I reckon Jackett, Hesentahler and Harris will have drawn up their list of targets some while ago.
Just depends on whether we can persuade them to come here for fifty quid a week and some lucky heather.

That would treble an average Mansfield wage
