It’s never worked for us, a side note we released Mandron in January who promptly signed for SPL Motherwell. Seems to be a gulf of difference outside of the obvious big hitters up there.

We got Nicky Cadden from Morton & Regan Hendry from Raith. Two quality players.

Others like Kyle McAllister who we got from St Mirren and Dylan McGeouch who was a free agent that last played for Aberdeen had both previously played in England before going back up north, have also done well for us especially McGeouch who is a cut above most of our squad.

Also had Jack Aitchison on loan from Celtic (and then on loan from Barnsley) who was quality.

We’ve done well out of Scotland I would say.

McGeouch was training with us last summer, Clough said at the time clearly good enough but we were and still are stacked in midfield so had to let him go.

Mandron was one of the flops of the season for me, I thought he'd have a very good season. I kind of wonder how he'd have fared if he'd have been in the second half of the season Gillingham squad and not the first half.

We've had some real stinkers from Scotland over the years. I remember us signing Chris Mitchell and Mark Stewart for free from Falkirk. I say 'free', Stewart was offered a contract from Falkirk and they took us to a tribunal where we had to pay £213,000. He played 15 times for us and scored 0 goals - He was absolutely woeful. A lot of money when you're in League Two.

When we got relegated from the Prem we had appointed Jim Jefferies from Hearts and he brought in some Scottish players who were absolutely not up to standard.

Jamie Walker we signed from Hearts in the summer and he's had a decent season, though he missed half of it.

I mean he literally won our player of the season despite only signing in December, missing a few games and struggling to play 90 minutes consistently. Shows what a good player he is, we’re desperate to keep him but not sure if he’ll sign.

I think after the first half of the season he’d had enough and wanted out, we weren’t creating anything at all for him to feed up and he was often up front on his own (mostly by the corner flag) so there was little he could do.

I wonder as well what he might have been like with any kind of service, I genuinely felt sorry for him when he got an absolute bollocking from our fans after our boxing day 2-0 defeat to Colchester.

Good luck to him though, the whole team were on course to be record breakingly awful if those results had carried on.

Scotland has been a bit hit and miss for us.

We signed three under Sutton who were below average (Ben Hutchinson *shudder*, Brian Gilmour, Steven Lennon). A couple of years ago we signed LB Jamie Robson from Dundee United and he was pretty stinking tbh and we sold him to FGR in January.

Mark O'Hara from Posh on loan was decent enough in 2018/19.

Conor McGrandles had a good spell with us, likewise Liam Briductt (when he managed to get on the pitch) and in January we signed Ethan Erhahon who looks to be an excellent piece of business.

Basically, all our decent Scottish players have been CM's!

We've had a couple of good 'uns before but this season was obviously a disaster and now we have a number on 2 year deals we need to shift. I'm not sure how competitive they'd be even at NL level. You could possibly make a case for centre half Euan Murray being kept on who improved a lot under Askey but otherwise the rest are substandard to put it nicely.

We are the absolute example of what not to do once promoted back.

Robson has looked marginally better than Boyes did for us tbf.

McGrandles is the only one that really lasted with us when we brought him South of the border. But the rest of them had all gone after about 18 months.

I'm only really on about bulk buying though when I say never again. Obviously if the odd individual pops up on the scouting lists then we will take a serious look at them and we've been relatively successful with Dan Harvie, but when we had a summer of bringing in dross like Aiden Nesbitt, Peter Pawlett, Osman Sow, Robbie Muirhead... I'm shuddering just remembering it.

Yeah I’d be surprised when he’s got a presumably very nice offer on the table from Derby and is still doing the business at the top of League One. It’s been an open secret for years that he wants to end his career back here though, so it’s possible.

He actually met with the club last summer before he got the Derby offer, would’ve been very funny in the NL.
Now their embargo is gone, they can buy Macca for a bargain (say £5m) and then they won't need him anymore, sorted.

Looks like he was at Wembley Saturday so I guess there's every chance eventually.

Apart from maybe Plymouth have many lower league English teams benefitted from recruiting out of Scotland?
We have had a few but most, if not all, have been total duds

In recent times we have done well recruiting mainly English players from teams playing north of the border. Off the top of my head, Jon Guthrie, Mitch Pinnock, Aaron Mcgowan and Louis Appere (actually Scottish) have all featured heavily since signing and all have been at least successes, Pinnock and Guthrie in particular.

% wise it seems players from Ireland have more chance of making it.

Their championship is about the equivalent of the conference (which shows how bad they are), i’d stay well away

I think we have done after the donkeys we signed. The likes of Derek Riordan and Garry Kenneth, both internationals and both shite even in L2

As we’ve decided to keep McAlinden and going off what Parky’s said about currently contracted players I don’t think we’ll go spending mad cash this summer. Only a couple of 300k deals probably
Plus an extra £150k per deal added on naturally, clubs are going to see you coming and see cash signs talking like that :D

Could always stick a temporary one up…

I certainly need to get down to gillingham next season as have never been (providing it’s a saturday).

Whereas our ground does look a tad stupid, we actually make a decent amount from the adverts down the side of the stand.

We may have a roof on that stand for next season it’s certainly been mentioned but not sure if they’re going to reduce its size or put a new cheap stand in, just been told it will be ‘upgraded’.

Advertising boards though, we’re getting those LED ones which I hope won’t be too distracting with moving ads.

Edit: if you do come down on a Saturday Rochester is a great place for food and drinks and only about 10 mins away on the train.

He's achieved his dreams too, so you'd think that's Stockport out of the race.

Thank fuck for that, we might have a chance next season
Some fans are having a melt down because he's leaving, can't understand why.
One lad reckons he's only had 10 bad games in 4 seasons,he's had 6 this seasons alone without really thinking about it.

I could probably pick out 10 this season alone, some of our lot are thick as fuck, won over by a single performance.

3 of the 4 seasons he's been here, he's cost us more points than he's won. You could argue he's been behind some terrible defences and that doesnt help but some of the goals he concedes are absolutely inexplicable. He's done us and himself a favour leaving.
