We've We've 2 young goalkeepers training with us apparently, we had 5 keepers at 1 point last season, got 3 atm so we'd be looking at bringing a 4th choice in.

Alfie Burnett - FGR last season
Josh Blunkell- Wycombe last season

Doubt either would every play even if signed. Foster will be first choice, Lainton and Howard fighting for the scraps

Yeah I assume they are to replace Calderbank Park as a development keeper

Scott Malone is training with us, probably just Harris doing an ex-Millwall player a favour though

Barrow fans, suggestions we are in talks with Josh Kay. The ITK chap on our forum said we had two bids knocked back in previous transfer windows so I guess would make sense to follow up our interest know. Whats he like?

I put it on here in January that he was off to Northampton - I’d been told it was a done deal, but not sure why it fell through.

He was offered a deal this summer but turned it down - some rumours he’d come back but the manager has shot that down.

Personally, I don’t think he’s good enough for League 2. He’s been here five seasons and we still don’t know if he’s a striker that doesn’t score many or a winger that doesn’t create much. He excites fans by taking players on and scoring the occasional worldie, but more often than not dribbles until he trips over his own feet.

And he usually gets booked or sent off for stupid things like gobbing off at the ref or pointless tackles off the ball. The kids like him though.

Thanks for the insight, although concerning that you dont think he is good enough for League 2 and we want him in League 1! We have a few players that rack up yellows for having a go at the ref there so he wont be alone. Does not sound like the quality addition we need to improve our major issue which was and is goalscoring though.

on his day he's a world beater - it's just a matter of how often can you get him to do that. His temperament did improve last season (apart from his 6 game ban for an alleged sexist remark).
Half the Barrow fans loved him and half were frustrated by him.
Does like a spectacular goal.

At best, he’d be an impact player off the bench. I think we offered him reduced terms as he would only be considered a fringe player. Not especially quick, but runs at people with the ball.

I can only imagine Northampton scouts have seen him on his handful of decent performances a season.

Echo the above, fully in the camp that he's a bottom end L2/top end NL player at best. Very inconsistent and has had plenty of suspensions over his time here to the point that I wasn't fussed at all that he'd turned down a new contract.

Amongst our trialists yesterday were Fuad Sesay (ex Wednesday) and Eric Yoro (ex Bolton) apparently.

Big Dunc's son Cameron was rumoured to be have been training with us with a view to a loan, but for some reason he wasn't there last night.

Interesting re Yoro. Haven't heard anything about him being on trial anywhere - he's still very much a member of our B team and still under contract here.

Could be with a view to a loan?

Without a manager and with the interview process likely to take at least 2-3 weeks according to Vince we aren’t likely to be doing a lot on the transfer front, so not sure what prospects there are for any of our trialists.

Possibly, although seeing as he's only just turned 19 and his only previous senior footballing experience is 1,200 minutes for a terrible UCD in the LOI Premier Division, I'd be surprised to see him go on loan to L2 this season.

Some rumour about us enquiring about Sam Hoskins.

I think there was a suggestion that you had enquired about his last season, certainly the case with our skipper Jon Guthrie.

Hoskins is a funny one. He has been here 8 years and up until last season was Marmite amongst most of our fanbase. He runs all day, has featured at every outfield position for us and is rarely if ever injured. The issue was that despite his endeavour there were times when he would be shoe horned into the side and fans would get annoyed at him seemingly being undroppable when at times he was not playing well.

Last season though everything went his way. He scored a ton of outrageous goals and we relied heavily on him to get us the goals we needed. He runs himself into the ground and featured a lot at wingback / RB for us. He does not feature hugely in open play as such, but he is definitely our best finisher and usually when he gets a clear chance he finishes it. He also scored the most goals from outside the box in L2 last season if memory serves me correctly. Would say he is definitely best suited on the LW making in to out runs and getting shots away.

Goals are still going to be a huge issue for us in L1 so it would take a sizeable offer for him to be prized away. Also he has a young family and is very much settled in the area after having been here for so long. That being said if you were to double his wages then it could be a goer but I would still be a bit surprised if he dropped a division. Pretty sure he is in our pre season camp in Scotland atm, not heard any rumours our end about it.

Ross Doohan has left us to sign for Aberdeen. Probably for the best, he was pretty poor for us.

Means we only have a 19 year old keeper on our books, with or without a manager we’ll need to bring someone in you’d think.

Yeah his goal at BP was one of the best finishes I saw all season at this level.

Well he scored the decisive goal in order for us to be promoted ahead of yourselves.
