A Corr-Tubbs partnership up top would be interesting...... Probably bankrupt us but would be interesting!

You tried to mug us off, Clarke doesn't like being held to ransom

Plus if it's true we could lose Taylor and lockyer plenty of interest in them apparently

Hardly mug you off. We loaned a player to you and we wanted him back. Unless you were willing to pay for him of course but we all know DC went crying to the press once he realised he wasn't going to get his own way. Yes we VERBALLY agreed a deal but a week in football is a long time.

I'm not quite sure how your fans seem to think DC was crying about the decision to change your mind, he said something along the lines of "We had a verbal agreement with Cambridge that they changed their mind on, wouldn't be the way I do business personally but they are well within their right to do so" - don't really see a lot wrong with that.

Glad Pompey have the luxury to pay players and just not play them.
Weve managed to pay him whilst he's been out injured so must be able to fit in our budget. He will get minutes when fit just don't see him as a starter as things stand.

When Smith left, we were suddenly linked with the Mansfield manager and the thread on Stags Net about us and him potentially leaving (Despite the fact he was never, ever in the fold) was hilarious. Mansfield a club on our par, probably going to be higher than us in 2 seasons time, bigger project with more potential at Mansfield? Eh. Now we are small fry for League One, I'm not trying to say we are huge or anything.

But they haven't finished above us in any league for 50 odd years, they have a smaller fan base and are located unfavourably, whereas we pull support from local clubs for big games. I get that we are small fish for League One, but seriously, the only time we were at there level in the last 15 years, we won the title and they struggled, then got relegated to the non league - ever since then we have spent most of the time 2 leagues above them?

Obviously, all fans get defensive about stuff when it involves their own club, like our forum. But It's been a while since I've read such delusional optimistic crap on a fan forum as I did in that thread. Mansfield fans on here are fine, but the same can not be said for the forum.

Will Accy get any compensation money for those two?

Great moves for the lads respectively. Hope Stanley got a bit of cash out of it though, totally unfair and I feel for them if they didn't. Imagine going from playing infront of 1,100 to playing infront of 45,000. Bit of a difference.

Depending on who you believe, we agreed to pay 2-3x that in the summer until QPR changed their minds at the last minute and demanded a lot more. Not sure why they lowered the fee so much (maybe they just don't like us!!) but fair play to you guys for capitalising on it, I'm sure you'll get that money back with plenty of profit sooner or later.

He was great at full back for us but looked even better further forward for you guys, seemed to be even quicker than last season too. Excellent signing.
He's mostly played in midfield this season unless we've had injuries or suspensions of defenders, also scored 6 goals already with some real crackers from outside the penalty area.I have no doubt he'll play at a higher level so we will make some much needed money but i hope he stays for a long while yet.

Didnt mean league 1 play offs! But I do have confidence that if we're not in the play off mix this season, Murray will have us right up there next season with some fine tuning. I know we're not that glamorous, but Tafs highly thought of here and will start more than he doesn't so to gamble his future on anything less than a league 1 play off side didn't make sense to me.

He was decent in League One for us but no more. Glad to hear he's doing well though, he always put the effort in!

They'll get some form of compensation but it'll be a pittance 'cause it'll be under FIFA's international rules - probs something daft like £15k each.

It says it all about the standard of Scottish football, really. I've always advocated us raiding the Scottish leagues for young players due to the compensation rules but it's barely worth it now, seems to be mostly FL players going the opposite way.

The point is he was airing the dirty laundry in the press. Dirty tactics. SD has said this morning a deal was never struck.

Anyways he is in the squad for Saturday so we can all move on.

He probably won't even play. Meh Derry reminds me of one my kids, not interested in their toy until someone else shows an interest. Then it's "mines "
I hope we can still do something but if not we move on.

I think claiming Derry "mugged off" Rovers isn't accurate since nothing was agreed. Maybe there are other ways of doing business but going to the press about it isn't an awful lot better. The only positive for Clarke to put it in the papers was to shift the "blame" for the deal not happening on to us.

I think these are the comments people are referring to. Like it or lump it, these comments suggest that it was truly in their plans for Gaffney to come back to us, and that the 'discussions' were over loan or permanent deal.

There's been a screw-up from both clubs. Us for not actually securing a pre-loan deal (although that can have its problems), and Cambridge for doing a u-turn on Gaffney. Cambridge have every right to do that, but I wonder what Gaffney's mindset will be if he's put on the bench for a few games and not given a chance.

Anyway, its done. Gaffney was a good player for us, would have liked him back but he wasn't irreplaceable. I hope it works out for Cambridge and more importantly Gaffney, cos he's a hard worker and deserves a chance there now.

Take those tinted glasses off for two minutes will you. If Williamson signed for us you would have Gaffney. We have 2 strikers (not including Slew), so why the hell would Derry not ask for his new shiny 5 goals in 3 games toy back when on paper it is his.

Well lets just hope it goes above Clarke and Derry's heads and both Chairman come to a deal and give Gaffney his wish of joining us. :)

Liam Lawrence signs on a free transfer till the end of the season. Option of another year upon promotion if we get anywhere near that.

Happy with that, good signing I think. Experienced head if nothing else.

EDIT: Big wage reduction from the contract he was on at Shrewsbury too. Even better.

There's about 15 posters on Stagsnet who's posts are worth reading.

I think more what people were getting at, As lots of our support has let a good start get the better of them and there expectations have shot from happy to have a mid table finish to we can challenge and get promoted. People were thinking we'd be in the same league as you next season but we've hit a rough patch now and the fickle bastards are on his back. Football ey

We're in talks with Carlos Cuellar.

He was allowed to train with us at Newcastle last week and now we're trying to sign him.

What an odd signing that would be. No idea what he's like now, 34 years old so he could be, and probably is, pretty far past it now. Where've you heard this?

Isn't he still playing in Spain? Assume he must have left

You need to make up some new stereotypes, us Blackbird Leys knuckleheads stopped wearing Burberry socks last autumn.

Only two decades after everyone else, then. Figures.

Looks like we might be interested in ex-Oldham wideman James Dayton. Which is a shame, as he's a bit crap.

Must be a top earner as well. May as well just buy everyone in the league so nobody else can have them.

The reason why Tubbs hasn't been played is because he has been injured since November! Nothing to do with "keeping him back so other clubs can't have him." That's just ludicrous, we're not Chelsea!

I was kidding haha. I don't seriously think anyone would pay £2k/week(?) just to stop someone else having a striker.
