James Chester of Barrow, I see he is out of contract at the end of December.

Interesting...

I'm not sure Carlisle should be wasting their new found wealth on 34 year olds.... cough...

Bite their hands off. OOC in June. Only reservation is whether any fee would find its way into any transfer kitty we may, or may not, have. Lose him, Young, Kemp and maybe Hutton and we’re good to go . .

. . .into the National League.

Rated Khan when he was at Chesterfield but wouldn't be paying that for him. Don't think we need any more midfielders anyway.

He's the reason they're doing so well defensively and we could do with some quality back up in defence until the end of the season.

The midfielder anyone would want from down there is Cook. No chance they'd let him go in January though

Banks is a journeyman midfielder really, not sure he'd be in high demand but could obviously still cut it at this level.

Can't believe Nick Haughton is still at FLYDE as well, goal machine from midfield.

Bit of a luxury player Banks. Looks great in a side doing well as no doubt Chesterfield are but he dropped off considerably when we were up against it a couple of seasons ago.

To be fair 34 year old James McClean has been a decent signing for us this year. And 36 year old Stephen Fletcher also looked a cut above, although he's injured now which is a problem with the old yins.

Must admit I haven't considered Banks anything other than a good NL player in the time I've been covering that league. I don't think he's anywhere near Chesterfield's best player in their current side.

Stockport County.
Paul Simpson being forced to dress like Apollo Creed as he comes down the tunnel for every home game to pump up the crowd.

But it'll all be worth it for the increase in budget.

As they say, everyone has a price.

I think this is a pretty fair summary of Banks. He's a player with a lot of ability, great vision and hits a ball really well, but it comes with strings attached. Cooks reinvented him this season as a floating 10 behind the striker and to be fair he's doing really well in the role, because he's really not a player you want in the engine room expecting him to do the dirty stuff. A bit less defensive responsibility does him good, but yea as someone said there he's not our amongst our best players.

I think when he plays in that number 10 role he is absolutely one of our best creative players. His passing range is far above NL level and he’s been adding goals to his game on a consistent basis in that position too. If I’m picking my best XI currently he’s in it.

What I will say though, is when you’ve got a rock solid foundation of Naylor & Jones behind you, it must be 10x easier to play your best football as an attacking player because you don’t have to worry about what’s going on behind you in a defensive sense. That has definitely helped Banks this season as that side of his game is no strength of his.

Back on topic though, if Wrexham are seriously considering spending £350k on Saidou Khan then their scouting department is even weaker than I already thought. Would probably struggle for a place on our bench if he was still here. Don’t get me wrong, decent player, but £350k worth? No chance.

Okay maybe it's not Banks I was thinking of. They've got someone quality in the middle whose name I can't remember (pm me for my freelance scouting CV)

Carver sources have told Sky Sports News that Carlisle United will be signing David Trezeguet.

I'm interested which one of our signings to date has made you think our scouting department is weak?

none of these rumours ever turn out to be true.

It’s more to do with how you spend ridiculous transfer fees on ageing players, but I suppose it doesn’t really matter when money is no object

Thats all a bit of nonsense though really- just something people say that's not really based on the reality of the situation. We spent a bit on Tozer and Palmer in the first season but that was mostly due to trying to buy players under contract from League one as a National League side.Teams knew we had money so we had to pay over the odds, although both of those have been key players for us in the three seasons since so it's not like they were poor signings.

We were also desperate for good quality, experienced players as we were trying to build a squad capable of winning the league from scratch.

Our other signings which cost us money have all. been in their early to mid 20s, so not really 'ageing', other than in a general. sense that we are all ageing.

Tl;dr: You're wrong.

Oh wow, and to say you always used to call us Chesterfield fans touchy, bloody hell

In my opinion your scouting department looks fairly basic to me considering you generally go for the ready made product that everyone already knows about at a premium price (whether that’s transfer fee or wage). Now like I said, considering money is no object to you lot, even if a signing doesn’t work out it’s not exactly going to be the end of the world for you is it and clearly you’ve had success in the short term with the way you’ve done things, but it doesn’t exactly take an outstanding scouting department to pick out the players you do and end up paying for does it? My point in this case was that if youre prepared to splash £350k on someone, there are plenty of better options than Saidou Khan.

That’s all I’m saying, chill

We are 100% not interested in Saidou Khan. We get linked to everyone.
