Not overly impressed with Wilkinson going to be honest. We need a clear out but he would have been one tha I wanted to keep.

Looking forward to the months ahead with Cuthbert and Magnus and the heart of the defence...

"You'll Never Take The Oak Road" seems to think Sheehan is being brought in as a central defender as much as a full back, which is a little concerning as Notts fans all say he's not very good there. There's also that Rea guy from Brighton rumoured who is a natural centre back so hopefully we won't have the comedy duo in place from here on in.

Looks like we will be seeing an even bigger overhaul between now and the summer than expected.

He's alright there, you just lose the threat of his left foot, which is probably his best attribute.

To be fair I thought Sheehan was often his best at Centre back. Maybe I'm more of a Sheehan fan than most on here but I think he's calm on the ball, can play from the back and also pretty good positionally. He does lack height though, which is pretty key in this league

Yeah, he looked better at centre back in League One where there were fewer massive strikers about.

Sheehan was notoriously garbage for us the few times he played at centre back, to the point where it was a running joke.

Sheehan was woeful against us last month at centre back.

With his left foot he should be playing left back or left mid.

I'm a bit surprised with the comments about Wilkinson above. To my mind, he is the definition of a very basic defender, headers rarely go where they are aimed, incapable of passing to a teammate, absolutely guaranteed to give away a series of totally unnecessary free-kicks every game, a walking yellow/red card.
On the other hand he is good at running around, beating his chest, and trying to get the crowd going. Some supporters think that this supposed 'passion' makes him a good player. Although he has been known to argue with any supporters who have a go at him, even when play is going on. Oh, and he has scored the occasional goal from corners.
Should fit in well at Stevenage then.

R.I.P Captain Handsome. I was hoping Notts fans would shut up about him now but looking on Notts Mad, they haven't. I must have completely missed the part where he dramatically improved our defence for 3/4 months...

Play him left-back too ffs. He's slow but he's solid defensively and can whip the odd decent ball in. He's not terrible at centre-back, just no idea why a side would ever sign him to play primarily as one.

Nothing to do with that, agree he is limited. Just the other options make my stomach churn. At least Wilkinson gave us something, what's left at that position are 3 absolute shite centre halves and now apparently a left back who we plan to play out of position.

According to a long-time poster on Exeweb he has been reliably informed we have accepted a £500k bid for Tom Nichols.

Shame if true as he's our main goalscorer but as he's out of contract we will cash in now and hopefully get a nice sell on clause too.

Rumoured clubs are Barnsley, Leeds and Peterborough

500k is exceptional if he's out of contract, should be able to find another goalscorer with that money.

It's sort of what I was expecting as a fee for him. He's under 24 so we'd be entitled to compensation and the club he joined would have to pay what is decided via a tribunal so it's not really as if he's even out of contract.

I do like Tom. He's not the finished article and I do think it would benefit him to have another season scoring and playing reguarly at this level before moving on but from the clubs point of view 500k can't really be turned down.

Anyway, if true it means the club have received around £3million from player sales and cup prize money in the past year. Nice situation in comparison to the 6 months prior.

Disagree fella, got loads of potential. I've only seen him live a couple of times but he's got something imo. Nothing is guaranteed but he's a got a good chance.

Curle has said we might go back to Bradford with another offer for Liddle.

if you're on about the first game not the replay then I must have been watching a different match to you. I thought Nichols was very good in that game.

Yeah, this. Wilkinson is nothing more than a solid League 2 centre back, but the other options are so awful it's hard to contemplate.

As others have said, if you're talking about the first game then you're sadly mistaken as he was great that night. In the replay he was only on the pitch for 45 mins due to our idiotic manager.

If he moves to a L1 club then I can see him playing regularly but moving to a championship club may see him having to prove himself before getting a proper chap which may or may not be good for him.

I agree with GOG another season at L2 with us would see him improve greatly but we can't turn down that fee when a tribunal fee would most likely be 200k less.

He's a goalscorer (26 goals in approx 50 starts) and they're like gold dust so if he gets the chance to play regular football I have no doubt he will eventually be a success at a higher level.

Good luck, Tom.

Wilkinson is nothing but a thug on the pitch. No real quality but I can see why the Luton fans liked him. Never say die attitude but an absolute egg.

I only saw the highlights of the second leg and he put a shot miles wide and I was thinking how poor of a player that is.

Even if we offered a million for him the greedy twats would still up the bid.
