Ruari Paton rumoured to be close to joining Vale with a decent bid accepted from Queens Park in Scotland.

48 goals in 2 season, worth a gamble I guess, we haven't done that enough in terms of Scotland/Non League

Pretty sure Clough went up to Scotland to watch him, no idea if we followed through with any proper bids though.

I believe we've spoken to him but I wouldn't fancy our chances of getting him if there's interest from clubs who can offer more in wages.

Wouldn't be a Crewe transfer window without signing a permanent crock.

Hope we avoid like the plague when Long will already spend 30 games on the sidelines.

We are slowly changing the culture at Grimsby, we used to select players to sign who were injury prone , that and their life style of Birds and Booze with Fish & Chips, a kind of 'Last Chance Saloon' for most of them, most didn't take that chance and we struggled to field a decent team.

Long contracts and job security seem to be our new owners philosophy when it comes to signing players (and staff), with a 'better your self' attitude towards allowing people to move on if it's in their interest. It's an interesting concept and we'll see if it works soon enough.

Laurence Maguire is coming in according to Pete O’Rourke
Fair play to him. Leaving us was the best career move he's made.

He's a curious case. I always felt he wasn't big or physical enough as a CB, and not quick enough or able to beat a man as an LB. And Cook certainly didn't like him in a back 4 as he hardly ever even made the bench. But then he's gone off to Crawley and done really well and helped them get promoted, so wtf do I know. Hope he does well, he's a good guy and good professional.

MK Dons just raiding Crawley after their play off shoeing.

Players like Maguire or Wright wouldn't have been on many League Two clubs list this time last year and I'm not sure they're even particularly good now, I honestly think it was just a brilliant system and team spirit job from Scott Lindsey.

The main stability we kept during relegation and last year was the central defence and that is a big reason as to why we couldn't push ourselves over the line in either the league. That seems to be what we are sorting out early with bringing in both leaders, and winners.

Maguire was impressive at Valley Parade. Unfortunately many others were as well.

Who knows, but I’d be very wary of players from Crawley, felt like one of those incredible seasons/managerial jobs you get where it all just clicks rather than the individuals being particularly impressive. A lot of players there who haven’t done much anywhere else - Maguire had never stood out at NL level really.

I can't see it. I saw his tweet earlier, but we've already got an old man to score goals up front.

Joe Day though is likely to be coming in apparently.

Maguire has confirmed he will not be signing for Crawley and said he is joining MK.

I said within a few weeks of him joining us that Chesterfield must have some good defenders if he can't get game time there. However, we did let in some strange goals all season and he was part and parcel of that. Decent player and said to be good guy as well.

Played really well for us in our strange defensive shape as the left of a back 3 that was also a back 4 with four central defenders.

I hope he does well.

Wary of managers as well.

I saw Kewell's side were trounced in the Asian Champions cup.

Looks like flynn is getting the band back together! thats Bennett and Day, who's next Labadie and wilmott and maybe a telegram to Ireland for Podge Amond.

Those jokes are already being made elsewhere.

Seems to be a weird mish-mash of Newport, Cheltenham and Torquay from the last 6 years. It promises to be interesting if nothing else.

I've heard another rumour he's going to a non-league side, maybe he's joining you on a 2 year deal, arf!

To be clear, this is just banter.

My friends that are SWFC fans are raving about him and saying we’ve done very well to get him to sign for us at L2 level.

Definitely improves us on paper defensively & would now expect one of Palmer / Williams to depart (Possibly both if we do get Mcfadzean over the line).
