We’ve always signed a few old men but it’s usually a McGoldrick or Bostock who can bring some extra quality and is a nice circumstance signing, not a big League Two lump.

With this lot and Jatta we’ve quite quickly gone from the smallest team in the whole EFL to land of the giants. Doubt we’ll take every corner short this season.
Need to get Maynard out & bring back Martin Allen and you’ll be well on your way

I think Notts will be up there if they can keep hold of attackers like Jones and Crowley who are both top players for the league.

Their defensive signings are more "solid" but it will be interesting to see how it knits together. The simply won't be able to pass out from the back in the same manner they did under Williams with these defenders they're signing. That will hopefully stop them conceding as many goals but the whole set up of the team will change which means it may not be as simple as concede less and keep the same attacking output at the same time.

Hopefully they go well.

They've made some good signings I reckon...but Sharp has been purely brought in because of his name. He looked way over the hill for Hull last season and another year on will not have made him any better. He'll be on a decent wedge still too...seems a bit of a frivolous spend to me.
It’s taken us all by surprise however there’s a difference between Championship and League 2 plus McCann wouldn’t have gone for it if he didn’t feel he could contribute. It will make money on short and ticket sales however as he’s got Royal status with us.

Certainly not looking good if you were part of last season's defence and you are still at the club. They've done what I wanted just one more please.

Crewe, Carlisle and Wimbledon should do the job that Harrogate can't.

I know nothing about him but 32 years old, 6'3" lots of league experience tells me enough. We were far too small last season hence the 321 short corners, and 11 long corners taken last season.

He was excellent for us, although we only had him for a year. We offered him a new deal but Harrogate offered him £2.5k a week so he went there instead.

We signed him expecting him to just be a cheap back up but he was a vital player for us and we were all gutted when he left - he was solid and is a better footballer than we expected too.

Having said that, we replaced him with Mickey Demetriou, who is much better, so it worked out ok in the end.

I kind of think ironically our attacking output last season wasn’t particularly down to our style, we scored a remarkable amount of goals just getting the ball out wide to Jones and Nemane and them beating full backs or Dan Crowley just doing something good out of nothing. I don’t think there were loads where we played 30 passes with overlapping centre-backs but…we did that anyway and that’s why we were both gloriously fun and frustrating

It's true 6 times against Grimsby Town alone.

Our biggest question mark has seemingly shifted from goalkeeper and defence to head coach.

I'm happy with that shift

Seems like he’s very hit and miss, Harrogate fans appear gutted and Coventry/Crewe seem to rate him highly, but others less so. It’s a bit of a weird signing away from our usual.
Looks like we're looking at squad competition. I think we found the gaps between the transfer window difficult, we needed boosting in October but we went with a small squad and at times the eleven picked themselves. A couple of midfielders needed now.
It looks like we're going to have a serious tilt at it on paper at least this season.

Fine with me, he looked like a decent addition, but not one that was worth going that far above whatever our initial offer for.

We had to at least try to concede fewer goals. We were abysmal at times last season. A few more 1-0 and 2-1s wouldn't go amiss.
The holding midfield role is crucial for us, if Palmer comes back good as new the defenders won't need to be more than competent with the ball as he makes himself available for a short pass.

Robertson will be the holding midfielder, Palmer more of a roamer (an ‘8’ if we’re being tacticos) and I’m very happy with that combo but as everyone says we have no backup for either - I wouldn’t be worried if not for the fact we were in the same position this time last year (old man O’Brien aside) and chose not to rectify it…once bitten and all that

Anthony Glennon signs for Newport. Do Newport play wing backs? He'd suit a 532 better than a flat back four in my opinion. Quality delivery for this level though and technically way better than 95% of full backs at this level, just not quite there in terms of physical attributes.
Played wing backs virtually all last season.

We’ll definitely be signing two central midfielders you’d think now with Bostock, O’Brien and Bajrami all gone. Probably the only important stuff we’ve got left to do.

I think we probably have another centre back in us as well for the right hand side. No problem with us putting faith in Macari, he was comfortably the best in there during the second half of last season and should only improve with some experience/consistency alongside him rather than Baldwin doing Cruyff turns all the time. He’s the only one currently who looks like he can play the wider role on the right in a back three.

I know we’ve brought three in now, but Bajrami, Brindley and Baldwin have all gone, Cameron might and Rawlinson is on the transfer list, so definitely room for another one at least just to maintain numbers.

I'm not gutted, he is an OK player but he is 32 years old and injury prone. What is worrying Harrogate supporters is the players leaving and not being replaced, The club feels like it is being run down in preparation for the Weavers to exit.

Nothing to be waxing lyrical about really given the state of our defence last season.

True but 6 (SIX) is still rather impressive and as much to do with Artell's naivety as Jones and Crowley's ability.

So much space all game at BP, and we still didn't win.

Utterly ridiculous game of football really. To be fair to Artell, he did tell them to go out and just outscore you that day which we had a fairly decent crack at.

He’s definitely a good player as we saw in 21/22 during his loan spell but the past 2 years he’s struggled to get a regular place in the team. Will be a bonus to whoever signs him but there’s for sure better out there.

Curzon Ashton....and Carlisle
Carlisle apparently - offered him £1k more per week than we did.

It is very possible I think Carlisle have a larger wage budget than they let on.

The reason it doesn’t show in terms of signings yet was a a lot of players don’t want to come to Carlisle and hope to find a more suitable location on slightly less wages.

Think once we hit later July and afew players are not getting options too nearer on similar wages Carlisle will nab a couple of key players.

A few of Simpsons best ever players Kev Gray, Bridges, Huntington all signed as season had started really.

Carlisle is not really a great first choice for many, I can see is chucking a higher wage and the player deciding on money or location and why it’s quiet both sides on it

Feel generally that fans are tetchy over lack of signings whilst other teams seem to be ticking over in comparison. Preseason has literally just started, there’s nearly ten weeks until the window closes, you can panic then if you’ve not signed anyone.

Last season we didn't sign anyone until 12 July.

For fans pre season is long and boring and because we don't see all the work going on in the background it seems like. nothing is happening.

Euros has an impact even at this level. Transfers get stuck at the top level and it holds up moves as people wait till it's over to commit to deals

For me, I think we hold the benefit of having a settled squad. Yes, they underperformed last season, but no one can deny we ended the season strongly.

Those who have left the squad are no great losses. Those coming in, with the exception of Sarcevic, are unknown quantities - but we still have a very strong spine.

We need a LWB (although I do rate Lewis Richards highly), a box-to-box midfielder to cover for Smallwood and Charlie Wyke to come in.

We then need to offload Vadaine Oliver, Kevin McDonald and send Adam Wilson out on-loan.

Throw in your typical Prem League loans and I think we’re strong enough. This league has shown time and time again, big names and so call great squads on paper usually results in diddly-squat. You need good team morale and settled squads to get you promoted from this league.

Will Wright signed from Crawley. Turned down a new deal with them and looks a good addition
