He's too busy with the Notts lads on strings atm to think of our rumours, that said there clearly aren't any been a boring summer hasn't it?

On the former Bantam Notts players, Platt was good and underrated imo think he is a miss. Palmer was crap for us but it was 2 divisions higher than Notts saw for the majority of his time there, sometimes dropping down does wonders, look at how shit Chicksen is and he did well in the pub league.

Just feels like six weeks of away kit hype for us tbh. Hopefully, the next few signings are of real quality.

Tranmere signed Cameron Norman. Seems like a good pickup. Fancy them to have a much better season.

I always liked Mullarkey. I think one window we were about a hairs breadth from getting him, for whatever reason it fell over at the 11.59 minute. How's he found L2?
His first couple of games as a right back he looked good, then fell off a cliff & showed he isn’t a full back.
Once moved into a 3 at the back he, imo, did very well.
He is living locally & is a northern lad, not sure if Crawley would entice him ( or anyone to be truthful). He may be attracted to League 1 football but the prospect of a relegation fight might put him off

Yea, he's a centre back isn't he?

On Palmer, I can fully see him not standing out in a team that doesn’t play the way we have since he signed. His superpower is playing about 100 short passes a game and not misplacing any of them, if you don’t play in a way that needs that then you wouldn’t be seeing a great deal out of him.

Honestly, have no idea. It’s a complete turnaround from small, technical players to the Land of the Giants. Tbh, I don’t care muchly if we turn prehistoric - just get out of this dreadful league.
Too many teams at this level try to play like Man City with pub league players, we did it under Hughes. It's no coincidence that managers like Evans and Parkinson walk through this league every time they are in it. In league 1 you can attract better players both permanently and on loan, then you can start to develop more of a style.

For me, you need a blend of both. If you have too many technical players, likelihood is you’ll get bullied, and if you have too many giants/physical players you’ll lack the guile & quality to win on a consistent basis. Last time we were in league 2 under Paul cook we had a very clear style of play that was mainly possession based, and we won the league that year, so it clearly can be done. I’m sure there’s been plenty of other sides that have done well & won promotion in ‘style’ too from this league.

What I will say though is that there are definitely more sides in & around the lower leagues trying to dominate possession these days than there ever used to be (Guardiola effect) and a lot of those sides have very little substance to them, which is probably where the idea comes from that that style doesn’t work down here. No one wants to watch a team pass it backwards / sideways with a sole focus on dominating possession if there’s no purpose or substance to it, boring as fuck that, and generally very ineffective. Got to be an element of directness to any possession based side to be successful in the lower leagues IMO

As Cloudy says he was poor as a RB in a flat back four but then a lot better once we played him in his actual position. Hard to really praise our defence from last seaaon in any way, shape or form though to be honest!

Cameron Norman looks like a decent recruit for Rovers, though his signing-up interview suggests he’ll be playing on the right rather than in central defence. Highly thought of at Newport, so what went wrong at Milton Keynes?

He's not attacking enough to play at RWB the way MW wants him to and there's better CB's out there so his game time was getting increasingly limited.

He was decent, relatively consistent and a surprise if we have cancelled his contract to allow him to sign for a free (conflicting information out end about that)

We were possession based but our technical players were guys like Gary Roberts, Sam Hird and Jimmy Ryan. Very skillful but with that bit of guile and nastiness you get with experience. Can't think of many lightweights in that team.

Plus we had some units in Evatt, Cooper, Morsy etc

That’s exactly what I was saying mate, you can absolutely play that style if you have that balance.

In fairness as academies higher up the divisions have 9 year olds trying to play like a Guardiola team, naturally there are more.players becoming available capable of playing that sort of style, and it is more possible to put together a decent team doing it at this level. Maybe the hoarding of youngsters and their need to be used as financial bargaining chips by the likes of Chelsea and Villa offsets that a bit though.

Millwall have put a bid in for Langstaff according to Pete O'Rourke. I would guess from the phrasing of it there's not a lot to be worried about from a Notts point of view but it might spur other interested clubs to take some action.

I'm always reminded of this when I think of Pete O'Rourke. I think he invents his 'transfers rumours' in a similar fashion

He seems to be very hit and miss. Some clubs he nails on a regular basis - others he's always wide of the mark.

Apparently Fleetwood's move for Elliot Bonds has hit a snag over personal terms. Fee has been agreed, so I imagine it will be confirmed soon enough.

O’Rourke is clearly an agent puppet. When he announces a signing he’s right, the ‘insert 3 clubs are chasing player x’ are nearly always wrong. It’s all very obvious.

A club making a bid for Langstaff is to be expected, the leaking of it is always suspicious

We are hearing Langstaff to Swansea and Will Evans to you! though why evans would want to take a sideways step is beyond me, just shows a total lack of ambition.
