Our first loan signing, unusual to have left it this long to get a loanee at least for us. Never heard of him so presume he's 'highly rated' and should 'tear this league apart' etc. Season long loan which means if he's shit he'll be gone in January or if he's good he'll also be gone in January.

Not sure what your point is here - Jonny is still going to be our first choice in that position, Euan will be his backup.

JW needs to be better this season for sure, which I'm sure he will be in a system that suits him rather than being played out of position all the time. Thanks for your concern though.
Sorry I misread your earlier post mate. I thought you were talking about a new signing replacing Williams, not as understudy, my bad.

Never heard of him and Brighton fans with the usual “he will tear up league two” etc every Prem loan player comes with can’t really be judged, but does seem to have a good pedigree, handful of Prem appearances last season and was signed by Porto at one point.

A pacey winger which is one area we have been lacking so hopefully does well for us.

What I would say is any loan player we have is likely to be shackled by the legacy of last season because our fans will compare to Oli Arblaster who was probably a 1 in 1000 loan in terms of walking in and within 2-3 games showing he was already a lower end Premier League level player. That probably happens once or twice every 5-10 years in all of L1/2 like Elliott Anderson or Jack Grealish so fans have to lay off that and be fair to him.

Still need a right back! Mitch Clark has confirmed the rumours that he’s fractured his neck and is having an operation, two freak breaks in a few months and suggested he may retire although imagine that’s how down he feels at the moment.

Having a very young Jack Grealish on loan at this level was incredible but to have him on loan at the same time as a nearly as young Callum McGregor was frankly ridiculous. Jack was making the opposition look foolish and being fouled and he continues to do at the top level.

Our squad was so poor that season that they instantly became our best players even at their youthful ages with little experience.

About the only good thing Paul Ince did.

Yeah it was a rare highlight last season really, we obviously had Alfie Devine too who came as the one with the fanfare and expectation and when those two were on it then it was a joy to watch… but losing them at new year and we only won twice after and that was that.

Replacing them with an ageing Jason Lowe and not quite up to it Jensen Weir was like having a Ferrari in midfield to a 1995 Ford Fiesta and we probably went down at the point they went really.

Not many 20 year olds go on loan to league one… get injured just before Xmas, get recalled and within a few weeks are Captain of their parent club in the Premier League! Was a pleasure to see someone of that calibre in the black and white, the best player I’ve seen for us in the 25 years I’ve been going Vale,

In that is why although it's always good to have one or two of these players in your squad it's a very dangerous game to centre your whole recruitment strategy on loans and we paid the price for doing that last season. At least this time it's more about supplementing what we already have. We'll see how it goes with him anyway. Am sure he'll be technically sound as most players coming from PL2 clubs are nowadays but nothing can prepare them for some big fucking lump from Bromley etc going through the back of them.

Seems like a decent enough loan signing. I always take higher level clubs saying 'he's too good for this level ' with a pinch of salt. Although he made 6 appearances in the Premier League last season, so he should be decent. He seems quite broad shouldered, and strength is an advantage for young wingers who so often get knocked off the ball.

Teddy Bishop has signed for Colchester, which, if we're basing him on talent alone, is a league too low but unfortunately trying to get any consistent run of games from him is pretty impossible. In only three seasons here he managed to become the most subbed player in our history - he started 68 games and only completed 90 minutes in 17 of them. Even managing him 60 minutes only twice a week seemed a big ask.

Can't imagine he'd have set his sights on L2 after leaving here (been on trial at Charlton this pre-season but they have to move players out before bringing any in) but it's down his neck of the woods so it works from a location point of view.

Yeah they look to be building a half decent side, there are five ex-Imps (Hopper, Woodyard, Anderson, Payne and Bishop - although only three were here under Cowley) and he knows Lyle Taylor from their days at Concord Rangers. Flanaghan looks a good signing as well.

Our ITK poster says Jordan Davies loan deal is done, chuffed with that

Ours are saying an announcement due today

Will be good for him to get a run of games. He isn't the fastest, certainly isn't a box-to-box player, and can shirk a challenge on occasion, but in the NL he was scoring for fun from midfield.

In his defence he has had a lot of personal issues over the last couple of seasons, this pre-season he has shown up, has bulked up a bit and scored against Vancouver with a tidy finish. Hopefully he shows what he can do for you!

Parky did say towards the end of the pre-season where we will see movement. Regarding Davies, it's a great move. He probably knows he isn't getting in our first team so go to the states, prove a point then look to get a move to carry on playing first team football. I'd imagine the pull of having the stature of Shaun Pearson would be a key factor in moving to the east coast. SP is a top, top bloke when he was with us.

Patrick Kelly on loan from West Ham is apparently happening, not sure we need another midfielder especially with Miller apparently on the way out. We’ve got 9 already

Miller had definitely left the building on a permanent move so a bit of money for us to boot, no idea as yet

If you get the best out of him he could be one hell of a player at that level.

Says a lot that we are only letting him go on loan.
Would imagine we’d have tried a transfer but wouldn’t have got close to wage demands and/or transfer fee.

Our window suddenly looks a lot better after the last couple of days but slight worry is that we might be relying a lot on loan signings (especially if we also sign Luker on loan). Still a striker short as I can’t see Pyke making it close to the first team. Wonder what tomorrow brings.

He'll get 10-12 goals from midfield if he plays all season just because he shoots on sight and his striking of the ball is that good, he's an underrated threat in the air from set pieces too.

Grimsby looked incredibly easy to play through last season and far too nice, don't expect Davies to help stop that. 2 workhorses next to him are required.

Cheers Geoff.

Only workhorses in the squad are Thompson, who’s out for another 2 months, and Green, who whilst improved, was incidentally awful against Wrexham last season. Reeeeally hoping for Luker or another before Saturday.

Signed Hamzad Kargbo after the forwards contract run out at QPR, he has been on trial all pre season.

I think you were just a much better side than us last season and we were crap even by our standards in both matches against you. We were definitely tougher to play against than both of those showings once we switched into grinding it out mode. We're doing operation not gonna let anyone have the ball v2.0 this season so there'll be no running through us anymore.
