Eh yeah really, I know Notts fans think they ‘do things differently’ but if a club sets a players valuation and it’s met, the bid is accepted, that’s the point of a valuation being set.

What that valuation is is a different story entirely, you might have chucked a ridiculous price on his head which won’t get met.

I meant more about the replacement being lined up etc… obviously every player at every club has a price - but there’s a reason so much happens on deadline day and I also think in most situations clubs would want a bigger fee the closer it gets to the deadline unless they need cash flow for their own incomings

Notts do do things differently though. I’ve said it before, having an algorithm that dictates the value of your players is great until a rival club comes along at your level and is happy to overpay for your best players - I think most clubs would dig their heels in over that out of sheer principle (I would if I ran a club), I think we look at things far more rationally than that (for better or worse, who knows)

I’m talking about the bid being accepted by the selling club, not the overall transfer…

But we all know how modern football works at this point. Buying clubs are in contact with players agents, and if Crowley’s agent had signalled that he had absolutely no intention of talking to / signing for MK, do you really think MK would still be sniffing round it?

Oh that much is obvious - Crowley/his agent want the bigger contract at MK. What we have to weigh up is whether we can Rodrigues it when we kept turning down bids for him (he’d just shrug and play even better), or if he’s going to mope about the place complaining.

Transfer fees haven't been excessive (generally). It's the wages where we are going hog wild.

All the transfer fees we've paid over the last four years would only add up to one Birmingham City signing.

Nobody pays huge fees at this level though - blowing other clubs away is always about the wages. Unless it's paying £300K to take Ollie Palmer from League One down to the National League within a year of saying you wouldn't be doing that sort of thing.

Don’t know a lot about this guy. What’s the opinion Swindon fans. Nigel seems quite keen on him

I think Saidou was always a bit of a marmite player. On his day he's unplayable, he has a great way of spinning out of tight spots and is good dribbling with the ball. Aside from that he doesn't have any blisteringly great attributes. Passing is OK, pinged a good goal at Accrington away last season but doesn't really seem to have that in his locker. Has been known to have issues with discipline.

With that said, I liked him. When he's good he's very good, he just doesn't have enough of those days. It will be interesting to see how he gets on as he'll be gone from us at the end of the season. If he does well we might even get a small fee from you in January.

Lots of good reviews for Diabate, would’ve needed to extend the changing room to fit all these centre halves in but luckily having one centre mid in the entire team gives us enough space.

I'd love it if one day a club mixed it up and said

'We are delighted to announce the signing of lowly rated _____. His last club didn't rate him hence their willingness to let him go, but we think we can turn water into wine."

Hope it works out for him.

There is ability there, he just needs make it click somewhere and actually nail down a favoured position.

Still would not surprise me if in 6 months you're saying the exact same things as Carlisle and Port Vale fans.

Our midfield this season has been non-existent. With the signings of Kilkenny (6) and Butterworth (10) I think this is an area we may attempt to use going forward.

Ha!

Welcome to our world.
Our luck has been rotten. Thompson, Tharme and Rose arguably our three best players last season all injured going into this one injured. Most exciting signing of the summer, Svanthorsson, comes out all guns blazing on the opening day and almost scores minutes into his debut and then hobbles off 5 minutes later. Jordan Davies comes in and scores a brace at home to Cheltenham and then does his hammy 15 mins into the Notts match...and now we've signed an injured player. Not luck that one admittedly but still ridiculous.

That sounds better than some of the other things mentioned about him, which gave the impression he was a defensive midfielder who could fill in at the back. Defensive midfield is one of the few areas we’re reasonably well covered. Been interested in Khan for a while, so those in charge of recruitment must have seen something they liked. Hope it works out for him.

Rumour of Shrewsbury making an enquiry about Brad Walker. At this point in the window, hope any offer is rebuffed.

I wonder if he’s self-aware that he’s just a puppet for agents
