Curzon Ashton....and Carlisle
We seem to be making solid signings at present, I don't think these signings will get us top 7 and would need better, but its signing to probably keep us away from the relegation zone.

it depends on what fans expect to whether its good or not, if people think midtable is ok this season we've probably done fine, if people expect top 7 its not enough..........that we'll only find out come October time I suppose.

Hi L2, do any Stanley fans get on here. If so do you know if there's any truth in the rumours floating around on Deva Chat that you've offered a fee to bring Sean McConville back to Accy.

After last season and the shite we had, I'd snap your hand off for a drama free 12th-16th place finish now.

Been told by an inside source that we are in for Kevin Lisbie

What is he like Orient fans?

I'd be happy if this is true.

We need an experienced head up front and it sounds as if he's taken care of himself over the years.

It's probably fair to say they look nothing special on paper but sometimes it's more about how they gel as a group, a squad of average players can have success at this level if they work together.

Indeed, we made the play-offs in 2013/14 by being not much more than well-organised and difficult to score against, with a limited but committed group of players.

I feel bad for Accrington, we've just nicked their captain and he might not even be a starter.

Yeah, we went for the "on paper" signings last summer with the likes of Gary Dicker, Troy Archibald-Henville, Billy Paynter etc. Players who've done it at a higher level.
Problem is they weren't hungry, most of the players we signed didn't give a shit or just thought dropping to this level would be a stroll in the park, that's why we had the season we had.

Time for us to try committed players who actually want to earn their money and give their all for the shirt, players who've played at this level and know what it takes to do well.

The only issue is the players we signed last summer are still contracted. Will we be able to offload them when they are on high wages? Doubtful.

We have signed Nicky Adams from Bury on a 3 year deal. Played 38 games for them last season so not sure why he left. Obviously because he played for Bury last year he is at least championship level.

Matt Green has returned to Mansfield!

I know Mansfield fans are going to be buzzing about this, but are you convinced about that signing?

Been crocked for like 18 months, never proven in the football league. Guessing your manager must be planning on changing your playing style to utilise his attributes. Better get relaying that pitch!

Seriously don't get why any club at this level signs players on three year contracts, it's sheer lunacy, all it takes is one bad season and you end up in the Conference with well paid and hard to offload players.

That said Northampton should be up there this season if they don't have an injury crisis again.

It's a risk, But he has broken 100m sprint records and Birmingham so it's a big thing if he's still got his pace. Pitch has been dug up this week also!

Since Wilder has come in we have dished out loads of them! Clear change on policy because prior to that 2 years was the maximum anyone was given.

I'm very happy because the man is consider a bit of a legend really.

Got to be cautious though, considering he's had nearly two seasons out with major injurys but anybody bar Stevie Wonder could tell he was ready for the step up to league football while in our conference title winning season. All depends if he's still the same player after injurys and we can keep him fit, he should definitely score some though and it's already a improvement on our entire strikeforce last season. I think realistically we can't do much better than Matt Green to be honest.

I don't think you can blame a lot of staggies for being really happy with this.

Christ, can't imagine being so desperate that I'd actually be buzzing about signing a striker who is effectively broken.

I give him 2 months of the season before he gets a serious injury.

Never go back to former players. Very often doesn't work.

He's 'effectively' broken? You must be right then, we are fucked!

Yep - we started handing a few out last year to players who really weren't deserving of it. I'd only sign someone on a contract of that length if he was a "special" player and had re-saleable potential. In our case, formerly Andre Gray who went for £600,000 plus clauses and Pelly Ruddock, who I think could well go to close that amount too.

Only three year contracts we've handed out in recent years are to players in our Academy who we believe will go far and those who we've brought in for six figure fees like Brad Inman (who has been a colossal waste of money). Two years is a perfect length because you never know, Wilder might do shite, get potted and then all of a sudden a new bloke comes in and wants to get rid of these players on lucrative long-term contracts.

Don't blame Oxford for getting Kemar Roofe signed up for three years as they've had to pay a fee for him, but Bury and Northampton handing long-term contracts out like confetti is a dangerous game.

...Whereas Matt Green is 28 now and has had a serious long term injury. Risky.

He featured in my 'worst player you have seen this season' post. He was woeful at our place for York.

I guess it's another Hearn situation, guaranteed to gets fans excited but could go big either way very quickly.
