*sign our second player. Surely Bakayogo comes under a plain contract renewal?

Classing it as a signing purely on the basis that he was on non-contract terms and since when do players over the age of 24 renew contracts with us? Else I'd have called it a standard renewal tbf.

May be of no relevance at all but Matt Green is at pre season (with Mansfield I must add)
As mentioned above, no fee has been agreed as yet. So for now he's a Mansfield player. But the clubs are talking and will come up with an agreement that suits all parties.

Three Vale players and Tootle? Sheridan didn't get out much last season.

My source tells me that hellogregory's source is not to be trusted.

Glen Rea signs on a 2 year deal from Brighton. We would have had to pay a fee for him, not sure how much it would have been though.

Be interesting to see where we see him developing, midfield or centre half, he can play both and in my opinion we are woefully short in central midfield at the moment so I can see it being there.

Tom Miller signs a two-year deal. I'm happy with this as he had offers to join a new club, and he's a solid defender.

I think someone mentioned £40,000 which is a good deal for us if that's the case.
In terms of central midfield - we've currently got Doyle, Smith, (now) Rea, Lee, Smith, Ruddock and Bakinson, so in terms of numbers we're not short.

Jones has said on the official website he wants to use him as a DM this season. I reckon we'll be "doing an England" and varying between a narrow diamond and a 4-3-3 primarily so Rea will be our Eric Dier stand-in essentially. Can't see Smudger getting too many games this season to be honest, no way Jones plays two tough tacklers, he prefers ball passers and Smith definitely isn't that.

I've looked in to this further too. It seems that Green is actually a massive fan of Eddie Stobart trucks: he collects all of the number plates and the official toys and merchandise - he's bloody obsessed by anything big, eighteen wheeled and green/white/red. He's even considered changing his goal celebration to one that includes tugging on an imaginary truck horn cord - 'honk honk'.

Stags have counted his fascination by offering to secure him a house overlooking the M1, but in truth, everyone will realise that his heart is set on being closer to the illustrious Eddie headquarters, dammit.

Gold. Comedic genius

We've re signed Troy Archibald-Henville....

Was great for us before but has bad knees now. If he can stay fit then he's a great signing.

Oh and we've given Craig Woodman a new deal. Fuck off football you soul destroying c***.

I honestly can't believe he's got himself another league club. Sure, if he can stay fit he'll be good - problem is there is absolutely no chance of him staying fit, he'll either be a sub all the time or he'll play every other game and screw up your defensive consistency. Not sure he's the nicest guy either, he called one of our fans a c*nt on twitter IIRC.

He could be a decent signing, but I don't think he's able to stay fit. He barely featured last season for us.

Not totally enthused about the signing to be honest. Was good for us 4/5 years ago but seems to have had the bones in his knees replaced by crisps. Will wait and see but was hoping for better.

As for the renewal of Woodman's contract. Just fuck the fuck off. I really despair with Tis sometimes.

Yep It's a risky signing but we had to have at least one crock since we released Will Hoskins.

Hopefully we can get something out of him....

As has been said, Troy can be a class defender at this level, but he won't stay fit. He can rarely play saturday-tuesday and even if you manage it well, he'll still end up out for a long spell. He can't train either.

I hope it works out for him because hes a nice bloke.

Happy with this. You'd assume that's the defense sorted with O'Donnell, Sheehan, Cuthbert and Mullins backed up by Potts, Justin, Musonda and Rea (who it looks like will play DM most of the time). Jones said late last week we would be looking at another 4 or 5 signings and we have had two since then, so another couple to come in. You'd assume they'd both be attacking midfielders, one of which can play wide left.
Shaping up well...

Out of interest, what length contract has Troy signed?

It doesn't say on the official report. I guess it could be a decent signing if he's on a pay as you play deal, I'd say anything more than that would be stupid of Tisdale.

I did think this myself. Not sure if being a narrow side rather than encouraging width has traditionally done well at this level?

Dunno as we rarely release contract length info but suspect it's a 1 year deal.

It's funny cos when we signed him from Spurs years ago he was likened to Ledley King. So bloody true!!

They are shit to be blunt though Kenneth, Smith, Doyle and Lee are nowhere near good enough for Jones stated aims this season.

I wonder who the other clubs were. I'd heard Cambridge mentioned but maybe that's someone putting 2 and 2 together with him being from there...

Would've been stupid of him to leave unless location had become a problem for him. He wouldn't have had any offers from higher leagues, and in this league I don't think there's many better teams he could be with considering the signings we've made and the fact that he'll likely be our first choice right back.
