Surely you don't believe double??

Possible, assuming there were other clubs in as well. Say the player was on £1000 per week at his L1 club, we offer to match it, then 2 L1 clubs come in and offer £1400 and £1700 pw respectively, then Mansfield come in and blow everyone away with £2000 pw contract, doubling what we offered.

If a few clubs are bidding for a player then it's easily possible that Mansfield would have to pay double his previous wage to land him ahead of clubs from a higher leagues.

We supposedly offered to match the wages a player was getting in League 1, then Mansfield came in and doubled it.

As I said... the PSG of League 2.

Take your point in that scenario but how the original point sounded was in a two horse race we had offered double to get the guy. Maybe I read it wrong.

FGR fans are loving this.

They've been on the receiving end for a few seasons now!

We've apparently agreed terms with Scott Brown but are struggling to agree a fee with Wycombe. Hopefully it can be sorted soon though because Brown is definitely a Cheltenham legend in my eyes.
If we get Blackman on loan again from Chelsea next season he's better off going as he'd be no 2 to a class keeper. We have a good businessman as chairman now so he will demand a fair price as Brown has another year left on his contract and won't be allowed to leave for nothing. Shame really as i understood Brown would our no 1 keeper next season so something must be going on us Wycombe fans know nothing about.

Can you inform the Wycombe chairman that Mansfield need a goalkeeper? We will double fee and wages.

We had Reece Brown at Cov for a short loan period a season or so ago, and all I can say is he is absolutely dreadful.
For the FGR fans all I can say is watch him for a few games and comeback on and give a review, he is not good enough for league football, well possibly Sunday league football but that's it.

Your old player Chris Stokes just signed a new deal with us, did you like him when he was at FGR, I think he's class but very injury prone

I presume everyone hates you because of Evans, am I right ?
Yes he's fat and arrogant but a dam good manager and that's all that matters down here in the bottom rung

That and the fact the owner has found us more to spend, we think it's because we are in a better financial position others think it's pure kamikaze time.

Top and bottom of it is we can't do anything about it anyway so we either enjoy it or worry about it. I spent 10 years worrying about Haslam so sod it lets climb on board.

I genuinely don't know how many clubs were in for Mirfin, but I very much doubt we were the only 2 clubs.

Curle has also said that we've been competing with league 1 clubs (as well as Mansfield) for some of our targets.

Remind me how it seems that Mansfield suddenly have money? Is it sustainable or just the owner frittering it all away!? They seem to be early L2 favourites

Said before having seen what he has done in the last 7 years I can't believe he has just woken up and said sod it lets blow a tonne of cash and go bust.

We don't make a profit but the losses have reduced dramatically in the last few years so from our view it looks like we have consolidated and he now wants to push on.

Also said I could be wrong on all this but we can only sit back and find out.

Surely everyone knew this was coming when Evans was appointed, there's no other reason he'd have dropped down to League 2 to a club that wasn't Portsmouth.

We all know Radford has a deep wallet, it helped Mansfield get out of the Conference and he's obviously decided that it's time to go again by appointing Evans and giving him a large budget to get promotion. Whilst I think he (Radford) and his missus are certainly not the cleanest of characters, what he has at least shown with Mansfield is that he can run it sensibly when he needs to and picks his moments to spend rather than do it endlessly year after year. It wouldn't make me comfortable if we did it that way (I wasn't happy with Richard Money's spree two years ago and I still have a panic attack every time we hand out a 3 year contract), but it at least seems a little bit more sustainable than your FGR's of this world.

The test I suppose will be if it doesn't work, when he's spent before it's worked and he's been able to balance the books accordingly in the coming seasons, if Mansfield flop this year and Evans buggers off leaving behind a load of overpaid wasters with two years left on a contract then we'll see what sort of business plan he has to rectify that.

His model seems to be an interesting one.

He's clearly a good business man, and clearly has Mansfield at heart. If he were here for a quick buck he wouldn't be doing up the training facilities, he wouldn't be doing the work with the community, he wouldn't be doing all the work with our excellent and up and coming youth team, he wouldn't be building the new state of the art training facilities, he wouldn't have imprved the west stand how he has, there would be no reason for it.

Maybe he's doing what he did when in the conference - spending big to get us back to where we "belong" (in his words) and then setting us up to be sustainable in league 1 - which would be completely possible for him to do.

I'm not denying that this season wouldn't be sustainable, of course it wouldn't be - but he's certainly improving the club at the same time.

Let's be honest Evans wouldn't be at Mansfield without a big budget to spend which has probably forced the chairman's hand, he's never managed anyone without one of the league's biggest budgets.

Wrong reece brown, we've signed the 21 year old midfielder from Birmingham. You're on about the ex man utd reece brown!! Scared me then!

We loved stokes, would have him back in a second!

We've got shite because all our council tax gets spent on the upkeep of the golden paved metropolis down the road.

Mansfield has nowt: no jobs, no character, no flare, nothing to shout about. However, the locals realise this, understand their place in the world and thus have no airs and graces or any Billy big-bollocks ideas of grandeur. I quite like the fact that the town is full of folks that don't look down their noses at others - it's what makes Mansfield folk tolerable.

The fact that our team has been shite for 120 years doesn't seem to bother us either. Though clearly the threat of us having the possibility of doing something for a short spell irritates some.
Don't be daft and don't bow down to constant calling of Mansfield, Mansfield is a great town full of great people, it's no different to any other working class mainly northern towns, ie, chesterfield, Scunthorpe, Rotherham, Doncaster, Rochdale, Halifax... The list is large,
I'm born and bread in the area, well travelled and I can tell you there's no finer people than the ones from our area of Notts, Mansfield has nice areas as well as not so nice, (like everywhere else!) and there's plenty of jobs to be had if you want one, just like any other town! Do you need me to go on?,
Oh and by the way.. I'm from a council estate and very proud of the fact, oh and for the record.. I employ 50 people and run a multi million pound company, not bad from Mansfield eh?

There has certainly been an element of this, he's a smart man.

The fact being is, if he leaves with us in league 1 then both parties would be happy. If I were a betting man, I know which way i'd be betting if asked to predict if Evans would be with us in 4 years.

He has not recently but like mentioned he used to do a great job at Crawley before the money rolled in back in the conference.

Agree with Tom.

He's waited until Mansfield have settled into a L2 side again and decided to push one, so in that respect there seems an element of planning there. Of course, and as mentioned, Evans plus a big budget relative to the division generally equals promotion, so in that respect it's probably less of a risk with him there. A bit of a 'now or never' moment.

Sorry Yellafella but living in the booming metropolis of Sheffield I have to say that Mansfield by contrast is very, very depressing and boring. There is literally nothing happening. No well-paid jobs and no entertainment.

The people are down to earth but I reckon that's a northern characteristic rather than a Nottinghamshire one.

We've had a bid rejected for Liam Noble, who we let go to Forest Green on a free last summer.

Not really sure about how I feel about it, to be honest. No doubting that he's talented enough to be a top player at this level, but I always thought he was just too indisciplined, both in terms of constantly getting sent off and positionally.

If he was on a free then maybe, but suspect that FGR will want a very healthy fee and i'm not convinced that he's worth it. One thing that may be in our favour is that I'm pretty sure he'd jump at it (he's obviously leaked the story in the first place), so may try and force it through, but I can't see it.

Please no, easily one of our players, captain and massive fans favourite. We can't afford to lose him.

Did he manage to stop getting sent off all the time? That was the reason it ended up turning sour here (along with that c*** Cooper 'banishing' him from the club then mysteriously signing him a fortnight later...).

Maybe I'm warming to it, a bit. He's got unfinished business here, for sure.

8 yellows, 0 reds plus a brilliant attitude, captain led by example always fired up worked his bollox off and got 22 assists and 9 goals to boot. Gets on really well with Cooper, he said the main reason for coming here was playing for him despite getting a public bashing every now and then during the year, something Coops does a lot.
