He is virtually irreplaceable though - how do you replace a 20-goal a season midfielder at League 2 level, without spending £500,000?

Easy...

Heard a rumour we've had an offer for Matt Rhead accepted by Lincoln. Can see Lincoln selling him but can't really see why we'd sign him.

5 over the line but not officially announced? Green would be a good signing. Was hoping we would pick him up

Got to say, when I saw him last season he looked a shadow of his former self.

Is that as well as Ollie Palmer or instead of as you said both were/are done deals?
Ollie Palmer is not the worst player in the world. Get a bit of confidence and he'll chip in with a few goals, although not loads. His all round game caused problems for opposition defenders last season.

Correct. Exciting signing especially if he gets going here, which i think he will. Think it's a good suit.

Some sports press journalist has said O'Grady has interest from Chesterfield, Rotherham and Lincoln but his agent has now gone away for 2 weeks (find that hard to believe!).
Seems we're now in for him.

I think we'll see Josh Ginnelly return as well.

Seems we're now in for him.

Seems a reasonable link to make given he was at Brighton with NJ. Scoring record isn't great recently but i guess has been playing for some struggling teams at Championship level so difficult.

Still don't really get this urgency to have another likely expensive forward brought in, cant we just let Vassell/Marriott develop alongside Hylton. Vassell in particular was making rapid improvements at the end of the season and potentially signing an experienced striker seems to just block his game time IMO.

We are going to have about 500 trialists at pre season training on Thursday, most of which won't even be Sunday league standard.

If Lincoln have signed Green then he's a decent signing. Probably get you 15+ goals. If you keep Rhead he's spoke many times about how he loves to play alongside him.

Be funny if you have signed Palmer too considering his Facebook comments when we got rid of him and replaced him with Green.

I can see both sides of it - you want to make the squad stronger and cover all bases - at the moment, we haven't got a genuine target man, although it sounds strange not describing Hylton as that - but he's not one in the presence that Palmer was; a proper battering ram.

The last time we genuinely had 4 strikers all competing for those 2 places was under Buckle, when he signed Rendell and Shaw, to play alongside Gray and Fleetwood - and he just decided to throw them all in. Didn't really work did it?

Green is a good League Two striker. He had a poor season by his standards last year but he still got 10 goals. He scored 16 the season before. I think last season he looked low on confidence but he's still got the pace. At 30, you should be able to get another good two or three seasons out of him.

If you get a revitalised, ruthless Green then it's a fantastic signing. If you get the Green that we got last year then it's a good signing for consolidating your League Two status.

Yeah I've got no issue with us looking at another forward, we probably do need one but the players we are looking at are a bit strange for me. As you say we could do with that big man type option but dropping 200k+ or signing what would seemingly be quite an expensive 31 year old? Not sure that's what we need to be doing. For me Palmer, limited though he was, was absolutely fine for the role we need to fill, come off the bench every now and again as a change of pace and provide something a bit different - that's all we need in my view the other strikers, in Hylton we have one of, if not the best players at this level, Vassell who improved dramatically and in my view is perfect to play off the platform Hylton provides and Marriott who had a poor season but has shown previously he has the ability.

Let's spend the big money on the midfield which is was the clear issue last season. Maybe with the McGeehan money we can do both in which case - crack on - the more good players the better but even then I think it would be a shame for Vassell & Marriott

And reinvesting the McGeehan money is exactly what they're planning to do it seems. I can see us tabling a big bid for someone in the next few weeks potentially.

O'Grady is 31 and available on a free, but presumably fairly hefty wages. Collins is 26 and in the prime of his career (I thought he was older).

I wouldn't say hes in the prime of his career. The fact he was playing regularly in league 1 a few years ago and then for Hibernian in the SPL and is now playing in the lower reaches of League 2 would suggest to me that the prime of his career was a few years ago.
I certainly wouldn't class playing for Crawley as the prime of his career - no offence to Crawley.

Fascinating fact about Ollie Palmer is that his dad was Prince Charles bodyguard for 20 years.

Even more fascinating than his dad being a bodyguard for little Charlie, is the fact that one botanist was so impressed by Ollie's skills that he named an orchid after him.

A few murmurs making their way round now, which seem to indicate we have up to 7 signed or waiting for paperwork to come back.

7!!!!! No signings then 7 all at once a la Big Keith in 2005 when he signed a load on the same day.
Wondering if Muldoon is stopping another pic of him in Imps gear today on twitter, Marriott has just disappeared...

That was local to Muldoon though wasn't it? As for the secret 7, any names they might be other than Palmer or Green?

Only in the fact no one has heard if he's accepted his new deal or one from elsewhere.
We know Muldoon has an offer from Fylde and Power has left us for Killie.
