No great surprise Greeny to Imps. Good signing for them IMO. I would expect him to bag 20 goals there as he will be first choice every game if fit.

Well I know that facts and figures can be a bit misleading but Greens goals to game ratios are better than Mullins or Palmer. I expect we will find out in a couple of days if these rumours are true, hopefully Green will be one of the incomings as I know he did extremely well at three spells I think with you. Seemed to have lost his way a bit recently, though maybe that was down to SE?

Marriott disappeared? I thought he was getting on well at Lincoln?

He only made 27 appearances last season, quite a few of which were off the bench. When you consider we played more than 60 games, that's not a lot.

Most felt he should have played more as more often than not he made a difference when he played, but the Cowleys wanted someone a bit more agile to partner Rhead to do a lot of the donkey word. He'd be a class striker for a top 10 Conference side, if not a bottom end of League Two club.

Would have thought one of the South West Yeovl, FGR or Cheltenham should take a punt on Brunt.

The bloke is a class act and was really playing well prior to that injury at Barnet. I still remember the sound of him clattering into the advertising boards and all those around me breathing in sharply.

Sounds like the exact sort of player we could do with. I love Danny Wright, but he's probably just below the required level, as proved quite a bit last season. Will run until he physically can't anymore, but just lacks that little bit of quality.

We've been linked with Jon Flatt on loan from Wolves again (probably only because he was here before). He replaced Dillon Phillips for the last 10 games in goal for our Conference winning season and was decent enough. I have no doubt we could do much worse.

Heard a rumour that we might be signing Stephan O'Donnell next week. Thoughts Luton fans?

Great engine and works hard up and down the flank. But can't defend and is the worst crosser of a ball I can recall seeing so frustrated a lot to say the least. He's got a lot of good attributes for a wing back but his tendency for complete brain farts in his own third and shocking final product in the opposition's third made him hard to like. Seemed to struggle with confidence too once fans got on his back.

In all fairness most full backs at this level are pretty shit, he's no worse than most and he will always offer an option to pass to wide, never hides even if sometimes you wish he did.

Is indeed a class act, doubt we would have got him if it wasn't for his terrible injuries. IF he could stay fit and last the 90 mins he would be immense.
That's the thing though isn't it. If if if.

I like him but whenever he actually started a game, rare as it was, I ended up yearning for another option off the bench more often that not. Which is what he himself eventually became, and rightly so.

Pretty munch concur with the above. It was a toss up between him and Potts out of which full back would stay, but with James Justin knocking the door down with his performances last season, it was always going to be difficult to see his contract renewed. Certainly hasn't got the resale value of Justin and he probably is more expensive too in salary.

Think he would be a good signing for a lot of League 2 sides.

Speculation that Peterborough United have tabled a £450,000 bid for Jack Marriott. A player that will probably be third choice at best next season.

He always deserved another chance though, I think last season was just an off season - he has the potential to score 20 goals at this level and even the one above in the medium term.

Maybe we can bump up the fee a little bit, but that number is tough to turn down.

But as Adam Stag says, the valuations I/Luton make of players are delusional.

After how he performed last season I'd take 450k for him, maybe that's why we seem to be pursuing forwards so aggressively this summer in which case I'll quit whining about it!

I'd love to know what happened to him last season, looked like he was all set for a coming out party looking razor sharp to end the season 2 seasons ago, and scoring a decent amount of goals in a team that barely created anything but then last season just lost all his confidence for reasons I'm not entirely clear of.

Not sure why Peterborough would bid that much and haven't they just got a couple in from the conference per their usual MO? Something doesn't ring all that true in this one for me.

I'd be very surprised if Luton didn't come in for Berry now they've sold Mcgeehan. Got to be £1m+ though.

I know we have a bit of money but I cant see us looking to spend that sort of money on 1 player, and being realistic I don't think we should as seems a bit irresponsible.

Plus not exactly a great move for Berry is it, he has got a good thing going with Cambridge and been stung by moving before (ironically to Barnsley!), wouldn't surprise me if he stayed with you as it seems to be his comfort zone.

We're not going to spend £1m to (a) a League 2 rival and (b) on any player full stop.

Berry does have a good thing at Cambridge but wants to play higher, and play for a team that match his ambitions.

I'm not saying we don't have ambitions to play higher but I got the feeling Berry spat his dummy out after the Jan window closed last season.

I'll be very pleased if Berry does stay here but can't see which league one club would come in and spend that sort of money for him, so you could be right he will probably end up staying and get a move in Jan or next season when his deal will only have 12 months left.

I know we were sniffing around but a million is out of our range I'd imagine.

I think most clubs that have been sniffing around have been put off by the quoted fee and are likely to wait until Jan or next summer.

If we don't go up then he is definitely off.

So after waiting what looks like ages, up to 7-8 new signings about to be announced shortly. Green, Palmer, Ade Azeez, Maguire Drew and Josh Ginnelly on season loans, then maybe Danny Rowe, Mullins and Knott.

Agree r.e. Marriott. Not really a 90 minute player for me and much, much better coming off the bench for the last 20 minutes.

He seemed to come off the subs bench and score or set one up. He's one I'd like to keep.

Yeah I can't see this rumour having legs.

That fee would be high based on his performance last season, but I'd still be pretty annoyed if we sold him this summer to be honest even for that kind of money. I'm convinced that with the right treatment (I maintain that he was managed very poorly last season) he can go on to be our next million pound+ player.

He had an underwhelming season as we can all agree, but he still averaged a goal every 270 minuted (i.e. 1 in 3) in the league and more like a goal every 2.5 in all comps.

As to where it went wrong for him last season, I think he had a couple of big confidence knocks in the earliest parts of the season (e.g. the Leeds game) and he was poorly managed thereafter - kept in the firing line for too long when in poor form, but bombed out too readily when in good form. Even when he hit a run of something like 5 goals in 3 games he was still getting hooked after an hour at best. I also don't think the formation suited him, it meant the middle of the pitch (where he does his best work) was completely congested with no space for him to run in to. He thrives on quick, incisive through balls to run on to but there was precious little of that last season.

I think this video gives a good idea of how different his season could have been had a couple of those early season chances gone in, the Leeds game especially:

It looked like his confidence was visibly dented and he started overthinking everything. Towards the end of the season he got back to his instinctive shoot on sight that we saw in his first season and reaped the rewards (but of course was ignored in the play-offs despite scoring 3 in 2 sub appearances in the games prior). I still genuinely believe there is a top quality striker in there.

I agree. As I say, he could go on and become a 20 goal a season League One striker. I can't believe some of those chances he missed - especially the Leeds and Hartlepool ones.

Which Danny Rowe?

I'd be delighted with Maguire-Drew and Knott, the others seem like gambles that could go either way.

A trident of vassell hylton and Marriott up front would be formidable .....with a trustworthy keeper.....the league is ours!!

Fuck me some of those misses are awful! Think I'd expunged most of them from my memory!

Bradford fans rated Knott highly at one stage. Was mooted for big money moves to the championship. Never happened though
Not sure about that, he simply gives (gave at least when he was here) the ball away too often to be effective further up the ladder - we binned him, Gillingham binned him, a good L2 midfielder is about his level

Yep. Although as the old cliche goes at least he was there to miss them, he still looked like scoring. I don't mind him missing chances like that, it happens to all strikers, we know he is extremely clinical when in form. The more worrying patch was from about mid-September till January-ish where he almost never looked like getting in positions to score at all.
