Rowey's not a bad player, got a decent dead ball and plays some neat passes from deep in midfield. Can be a bit of a luxury player though. Appears lackadaisical at times, and that meant that he was one of the first players our fans got on the back of when we were going through long winless runs. Probably more a top Conference player than lower League 2 player.

Watching our friendly against Carlisle City today, I was trying to work out who the triallists were based on their team-mates shouting their names when they had the ball. One, a right winger, sounded like he was called Bez, or Des or something, probably too much of a stretch to put a name to a player. There was a left winger they referred to as Tummi, lord knows what that's short for or if it's likely a foreign name and I'm pretty sure the one who was subbed off was called over by the name 'Warren'. One I think I've done better at was the lad who scored the fourth goal and who was definitely called Ronan. My guess is Ronan Hale of Birmingham City. I found a few forwards called Ronan, most of them are randomers based in Ireland, but Hale is a young Birmingham professional and Ireland U21 player so probably the right sort of profile for us.

As you say, likes to sit deep but that's not how our CM works and he seemed like someone who had been told to press and get stuck in but didn't look natural when he was doing it.

We're taking an "established" central midfielder trialist who has "other clubs interested" in him on our pre-season tour to Slovenia this week apparently, no names mentioned. Bit odd as Jones had said we were done unless a too-good-to-pass opportunity came up later in the summer, seems odd that someone like that would be available for a week-long trial. We do definitely have space for another proper midfielder though so hopefully it's someone good!

Also got a young goalkeeper on trial who was released from a Premier League academy. We need a new one for the development squad as we released one of ours and then the other unfortunately left due to issues with depression, so I imagine they'll offer him something even though he apparently looked shit against Hitchin in a pre-season friendly in mid-week.

Some of our fans liked him because he lambasted the players in public after getting tonked like 5-0 by both Carlisle and Mansfield but seemed to overlook the fact he managed a team getting tonked 5-0 by Mansfield and Carlisle. He was no better as a Notts County manager than Fullarton and it was absolutely mind-boggling that some fans were annoyed at us 'messing him around' and 'letting him go'.

Whilst we're on the subject, I'm all for Weird Dale putting an end to the Noble saga - fuck paying 6 figures for that moron.
