Definitely Kenny. But I thought he was the non-league Makelele.

Was that Yaser Kasim?

Nah, the "non-league Yaya" was Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu. To be fair there were quite a few similarities in style on initial inspection, but nowadays Pelly is more like the League Two Moussa Sissoko.

Dale Vince, chairman of Forest Green Rovers, said:

"We've watched with an increasing sense of bewilderment as Notts County have released a series of press statements about their interest in our player. It's one thing to engage in such megaphone diplomacy, and quite another to put false stories in the press.

We have received a series of bids for Liam, the first we considered to be a joke. Their latest 'final' bid we received was not for £100k as their owner claimed in the press yesterday. Equally, the claim made yesterday about us suggesting they could double that amount and still not get him is completely false.

We've been very clear from the outset that we did not want to sell Liam and the antics of Notts County since then have only firmed up that position. Liam Noble - Captain of our play-off winning side - is not for sale. We want Notts County to stop what they are doing, including the behind-the-scenes contact with the player, which we consider to be a breach of FA rules.

Forest Green Rovers may be the newest and smallest member of the Football League family, but we know how to conduct ourselves and how to undertake a transfer negotiation the right way - quietly and respectfully club to club."

Didn't Vince do that last season with Cheltenham after an FGR player? Genuinely can't remember the exact details.

Vince appears to have completely forgotten how he got Mark Cooper, and subsequently Liam Noble, in the first place.

"We know how to conduct ourselves." Apparently not Dale. Such a small fry player and amount to get worked up by. £100k for the walking head case that is Liam Noble, jeez. You'd think the way these 2 are arguing that we talking a 7 figure sum for the next Jamie Vardy.

Not sure why County are so desperate to have him back, he was a liability there by the looks it, 20 yellow cards and 6 reds in 2 seasons. Might be worth remembering why they let him go in the first place.

We let him go because Mark Cooper had banished him from the club and effectively released him about a week before he became Forest Green manager (having been offered that job whilst still Notts manager, despite no official approach having been made to us).

I have no doubt that Notts' conduct in this could've been better, but the hypocrisy is utterly fucking incredible.

...or Lincoln just doubled his wages? Never stood out at Braintree whenever I saw them in 15/16. Had a decent match in the playoff semis at BP, perhaps? We'll see if he can step up, but I suspect it might be a case of the Lincoln rabble over egging another one of their world beaters.

Crikey, more about one of our world beaters here from Danny Cowley. I wish he wouldn't over egg Woodyard.

Didn't Vince do that last season with Cheltenham after an FGR player? Genuinely can't remember the exact details.

That was over their illegal tapping up of Elliott Frear, with the help of the Citizen newspaper who were banned over the incident.

Notts County have now released a statement.

Notts County owner and chairman Alan Hardy has responded to Forest Green Rovers' statement regarding Liam Noble.

He said: "I feel compelled to set the record straight regarding a number of comments made by Dale Vince, chairman of Forest Green Rovers.

"Firstly, in respect of his claim that we have released a number of press statements about their player, we put them to proof on this matter. The only statements made by the club have been those attributed to me or Kevin Nolan over the past 48 hours.

"I can confirm that a number of bids have been made by the club, and that the final bid was for a transfer fee of £100,000 payable immediately. Why Dale Vince would deny this when it is fact baffles me.

"Furthermore, our Football Operations Director Jason Turner, who has been handling this matter in the strictest of confidence, was told by James Mooney of Forest Green Rovers when the final bid was rejected that they would not sell him to us for double the price.

"Dale Vince also claims they have been very clear from the outset that they did not want to sell Liam. While this may be the case, they have also been very clear from the outset that an offer of £100,000 guaranteed would be acceptable. It was only when this bid was lodged that they changed their minds.

"I am more than comfortable that we have negotiated with Forest Green Rovers in a professional and diligent manner but we now move on and look forward to welcoming them to Meadow Lane in October."

Great, the two most 'outspoken' owners in league 2 having a ding-dong via official statements...how tedious.

Did notice that the "Liam remains fully committed to the club" line that you'd expect was missing from the FGR statement.

The truth is almost certainly somewhere in the middle, but fuck it, playground rules and they started it. Even if all we get out of this is unsettling Noble then it's still very funny.

What did the County lot think of Cooper, btw?

What did the County lot think of Cooper, btw?

As a manager - mixed. Talked the talk and dug the players out when he first took over and it was the popular thing to do, but never backed it up. Took no responsibility for losing the derby 5-0 at Mansfield or the 5-0 at home to Carlisle on the last day, one of the worst home defeats in our history. We were going to offer him a new deal, but no one really shed any tears when he left.

As a man, he's an absolute snake. Consistently denied that he'd had any contact from FGR only to resign about an hour after the final whistle on the last day and pitch up there in time for the play-offs. The Noble thing is what really took the piss, though - this is what he said/did just a few weeks before signing him for FGR:-

"I spoke to him after the game and I told him not to come back. I will ring him when I want to speak to him.

"He is not training with us. I sent him back to Newcastle. He's now got some time off and I will deal with him when I want to."

"If somebody is interested in him, that will probably be weighing on their minds.

"People keep telling me he is going to change, but I think if you calculate the games he has missed, you have to decide whether it's value for money or not."

Had a quick look at their forum and it was lots of people saying 'Notts didn't want to keep him a year ago' - it was their manager who took the decision to banish him from the club.

We're generally quite a placid lot at Meadow Lane, but it won't be a friendly reception for Cooper when he comes back.

Why do people keep bringing up nobles discipline record, look at his record last season, we never saw this mentalist that county fans keep talking about! Just hope that the issue is sorted now bit pathetic from our club but also making it so public hasn't helped. Still looking forward to visiting the oldest club so no sour grapes :)

Already been to Notts in the FA Cup third round, back when we were skint and needed the money. Problem was we had Dave Hockaday in charge and a 'strike force' of Isaiah Rankin and Tomi Ameobi.
Still it was only bloody Schmeichel jnr that stopped us getting it though with a couple of cracking saves from Conal Platt.

Game got postponed twice and the winners knew that they'd be at home to Wigan, the club printed off a load of tickets for that match even though it never actually happened. Had we got through, got a money spinning TV game then the Vince takeover might never have happened and we probably wouldn't be a football league club now or be able to turn down 100k. Funny old game innit.

Unfortunately wasn't able travel to that match but listened on the radio! Could only do home matches that season :crazy:

Oh God what a donkey tomi ameobi was and such a shame conal had such a bag injury record he was awesome.

Is this hundred thousand pound Liam Noble the headless chicken Liam Noble or a new, secret version that's been hidden away?

The headless chicken version, which slunked off to the nether regions, is surely a Morrisons home delivery driver or a litter-picker for the council these days.

Apparently it's a new version, but still think we've probably had a lucky escape. There must be better available for that kind of money.

Was Noble the guy who said he was 100% Notts would beat us that time? Most County fans were pretty certain too, what with all those Dutch superstars you signed.

Think we won 2-0 in the end.
