It's a good signing, but you have to question his appetite. He's obviously signed purely for money. We got a few players like this last season and they didn't work out, it was obvious quite early on that they weren't motivated by football and were just happy to be on a decent wedge.

Hopefully from Cambridge's point of view that's not the case with Corr. But to swap Southend for Cambridge having just won promotion, you have to question his motives.

Barry Corr is a player that plays with his heart on his sleeve and always gives 100%. Correct me if I'm wrong Southend fans?

That's completed a solid looking central spine to their team now so it will be interesting to see what calibre of player they fill the rest of the gaps in with now.
Much as I would like a proper winger, until we get some movement out, we may already have 10 of our starting 11 for next season. There are various combinations but in 4-4-2

Dunn
RB
Roberts
Legge
Dunk
Hughes
Keane
Morrissey
Donaldson
Gaffney
Corr

Bench: Coulson*, Taylor*, Hunt*, Simpson*, Slew*, Chiedozie

Still hoping for 6 or 7 in and 2 or 3 out before we get some young loanees in. Pity that KaiKai and Ball are likely to find loans at a higher level, they would be a great pairing down the right. Of those on the transfer list (*), I'd be happy for Josh Coulson and Robbie Simpson to stay if that's their wish.

talk about pissing on your own chips. You should be delighted the club are pushing forward. Dogget wouldn't be spending money that isn't there.

That's a very simplistic thing to say. After everything we went through before I remain extremely sceptical of what we're spending, particularly as no-one really kicked up a fuss when it was obviously happening in the Quinn/Brabin years and it set us a long way back. I used to be sympathetic towards football fans who's clubs suffered financially but it's happened too often and 99% of the time fans sit back, lap it up, and do nothing about it, then plead poverty when shit hits the fan. Like I said, what can you do, only they know, but having said NONE of the Man U money would go in the playing squad, then whilst you'd expect a pretty decent increase in the playing budget, these are 4 pretty big signings for this level and they won't be cheap.

The 4 we've made do make up that "spine" of the team that everyone has talked about, if these are the big ones and our remaining signings are a little more "realistic", then it's probably fine, but right now I'm a little queasy about it, with the way football is I wouldn't trust many people running a football club.

£175,000 is a lot of money for McGeehan - is there likely to be a transfer for a higher fee this season in League 2?

No way is he worth 175k....especially if you carry on playing him out of position.

so that's one down who I was told we would be signing, not really sure what's happening on the other, if anything.

Tom, I totally agree with you regarding how much we're spending, we've been here before and the after affects still hurt, scepticism and pessimism are things I feel us u's excell in sometimes but with the dogg and the jeziah in charge it feels slightly different to me, can only hope everyone knows what their doing.

A little more info regarding the finances, I'm sure you've all read about higher attendances, more sponsorship etc but I have heard we've got some extra backers involved, I have no idea who or how much though.

As always my fellow u's.

Big signing for Cambridge. Must of offered him good money considering we offered him a 2 year deal. I am not sure he would cut it in league 1 but I am truly gutted he's left, a fans favourite and we now have 0 strikers.
i can confirm we offered very good money, to bloody good if you ask me, just hope it pays off, boom boom.

Splash the cash.

Well certainly. He is an asset if he's played behind the strikers in an attacking midfield role, but in a defensive midfield position, he has absolutely no impact.

However, the club is taking the gamble on resale value. He's only 20 years old I think and has played in 2 Luton teams that have been very competitive. He's also won the FA Youth Cup has captain, scoring in the final. He's got good pedigree and real potential.

Roberts and Corr would both be in my top 5 signings made by L2 clubs this season so far. I think this is going to be a very strong league next season.

I agree re: your comments around Doggett and Jez, I'm not Doggett's biggest fan but certainly not for reasons relating to the general running of the football club under his stewardship, and I don't think any potential overspending would be sinister in any way, I'm just not entirely confident in the maths going into it.

Of course I do this off nothing more than a "feel" for things and that applies to 99.9% of us, which makes it difficult. Scepticism and pessimism is in my nature around CUFC and always will be after everything that's happened before, there are probably more who fall into the complete opposite of that which is why people don't take kindly to anything negative being said, particularly when it's speculation, the problem like I said prior is they're the ones then crying foul when it goes wrong.

"Extra backers" doesn't ever fill me with confidence either, I was hoping we'd be working our way towards being self-sustainable and not having to rely on these additional inputs, which are bad regardless of whether they're donations or loans, because it's not, well, sustainable.

Like I said though, we'll see, and that's all we can do, next signing will be interesting.

There's been like 10 signings. Yeovil have 3 players ffs.

Barry Corr's a great signing for Cambridge. Seemed to have a knack of scoring against us pretty much every time we met. One of those players that you view as a total knob when he's in an opposition shirt but would love if he's playing for you.

Always love a bet - Cambridge 3/1 to finish in the top seven doesn't look too bad.

I recognise where you're coming from but we are probably looking at an income that will be up £1.5 - 2 million compared to what was budgeted for break-even 2014/2015. We can probably up our playing budget for 2015/2016 by almost £1 million without touching the Man U money. League gates are up by 1,900 and probably up by 1,000 an last year's budget. Central funding and commercial income will be up. Our rent is staying at £50k/yr.

I also recognise that we are increasing overheads and player wages before that income, especially gates, have come in - but we have a lot more breathing room than we've had for a long time. I share you cautious attitude and can see lots of ways for things to go wrong in the coming years. However, probably for the first time since I've followed the U's, I can also see a sustainable upside - and for the moment the figures add up to give us a competitive but not SoB budget for next season.

No one really being mentioned as potential signings for us at the moment. Peterborough being linked with Ben Kennedy on the Peterborough Vital Website, a rumour sparked by Dave Robertson and Grant McCann following Ben Kennedy on twitter

Barry Corr was genuinely awful when he played for us. One of the worst players I have EVER seen in a city shirt. Couldn't stay on his feet, slow, fouls people constantly and didnt even old the ball up well...

Yes I also think Money did his best to keep last year's playing budget down in order to plough more into next season. The fact we budgeted way lower attendances than we actually got shows that.

I'm naturally nervous as we've got recent disastrous history financially but I'm comforted by Jez and DD's running of the club which has been well judged to date. Of course none of us have a clue how close we're sailing to the wind so there's a ton of hope in there too....

We do have the bulk of our first team "in" now but could do with padding out the squad a bit.

Really disappointed that Corr's left. Cult hero at Southend, gave everything every time, and that game against Exeter when he scored on his return from long-term injury was magnificent. Even better for him that it was against them, as they seem to dislike him.

Blimey you must have missed a lot of our games in the past number of years then if you think Corr was one of the worst. What about:

Sam Parkin, Rowan Vine, Jonathan Fortune, Danny Coles, Sean Canham, Matt Witchelow etc ?

Impressed by that Barry Corr signing (even if he did cost me a packet by missing that penalty in injury time in the play off 2nd leg).

Corr rejected Pompey and Oxford in favour of us too - that makes it even more impressive.
