Unsure about Loach. On paper, you'd think it'd be a great signing, played at U-21 level & The Championship, but whenever he gets mentioned, everyone says how bad he is.

Surely he can't be that bad?

Loach, umm.
Confidence was shot at Bury, bloody good keeper in there somewhere but confidence is key.
Worst goalkeeping performance I ever saw the 1 Bury game I watched him in.

Mansfield are scraping the barrel with Adi Yussuf.

Granted, we struggled to get any game time out of him but in the minutes he had, which were generally in pre-season, he didn't particularly stand out against teams 3 or 4 leagues below the Conference. Looked even more out of his depth in the league.

I think his injury record was ok last season (perhaps due to only playing PT) because at every one of his FT Clubs, he's been released due to injury issues.

Has Miller signed for Carlisle then? Been away a few days so out of the loop. He's more ready to step up than Newton was (although Newton was never a L1 player in a million years).

Not the tallest, which is one of the reasons we moved him from CB to RB but decent in the air and a threat from set pieces, too.

I put this in the Conference forum a week or so back:

"Miller's a weird one because he's actually a CB but we stuck him at RB for a few games and I think he and we realised he's actually better there than everyone thought he'd be (perhaps better than CB). He looked a bit unsure at first but after 10 games or so it was like he'd been playing there for years.

He gets forward as much as Newton did, just not got as good a end product. He'll not get anywhere near as many assists as Newton, who also took set pieces. He's probably more defensive minded and certainly better at defending.

The only slight concern when we signed him 3(?) years ago was his injury record but he had a clean bill of health up until November time last year and then the rest of the season was stop-start with groin problems."

Excellent when on loan at Yeovil earlier on this year. One of the few shining lights...albeit, that wasn't that difficult. Would've thought he'd have gotten a L1 club but perhaps he is paying the price for being a No. 2 for too long.

He hasn't signed yet but with your manager saying that he thought he was joining us I would hope it's just a matter of time. The only worry is that your manager's heard it from Miller's agent and he obviously has an agenda in terms of finding him the best deal, so there's always that chance that we're just being used to get him a better contract from you.

Loach now tweeting about a GK coach in Notts and wanting to get some work in whilst he's off.

I hope we are signing him, He might have been poor for Bury but you don't play 170 odd games at Championship level and be a terrible keeper.

He's made it pretty clear this end that if there's an FL offer he'll take that, so I'm 99.9% sure he's off elsewhere.

Pegguy Arphexad played for Liverpool.

I'm sticking a tenner on Mansfield going down, some awful signings with an inexperienced manager.

Not looking good for Mansfield, but it's not looking great for us either. We've so far made one underwhelming signing and the squad actually looks weaker than it did at the start of last season. Presumably Wilcox will attempt to sort it by signing another 8 mediocre strikers.

Whilst none of our signings have been standout, 'awful' is a bit strong. We've signed two players who were regulars in play-off chasing teams last season (Chapman and Beardsley) and a few young lads, a couple of which have experience at this level and higher.

We've done less than half of our business so far so plenty of time left yet.

If you stick a tenner on us going you seriously have to question your intelligence.
Why? Anything can happen in this league. Only I'd say about 5 or 6 teams have next to no chance of going down, it could be any from the rest of us. Who'd have thought 12 months ago that Tranmere would end up going down?

I agree with this.

The bottom 8/9 from this season have a lot of work to do so that they are not involved in a relegation scrap next season.

Beardsley doesn't score, Yusuff could easily be another Ollie Palmer and Green hasn't played much football. And then what about the other ones? On paper I can see why these might be perceived as poor signings and why we might look an attractive bet for the drop.

Murray is clearly open to give an opportunity to younger lads with a point to prove rather than the usual merry go round of L2 players. I'm not saying it will pay off big time but I for one am happier with this than overpaying the previous bunch of hoofers.

As someone said other than 5 or 6 teams no one can say at this point who is going to struggle and who isn't I can't imagine anyone signed to date other than Green has consumed large chunks of budget.

Even though its early doors I have to agree I worry for Mansfield next season. A rookie manager trying to change a serious hoofball philosophy to a passing one seems a brave strategy. Add into the mix only one striker has any sort of history of scoring any amount of goals (and even those were non league) and it dosnt exactly scream playoffs. In this league if you are not in the playoff hunt you tend to be looking over your shoulder. Also Mal Benning was literally horrific at Sixfields.

and yes I know Matt Green broke the sprint record at Birmingham before anyone raises that point.

Chris Beardsley :bg::bg: very amusing. Shame we couldn't offload that lump Armand Gnandulliet to you. You best hope Green comes up with the goods.

Not a transfer, but after much speculation about a move to the US, Bayo Akinfenwa has signed up for another season.

Profile pic stays for a while

Dean Saunders is very amusing compared to Beardsley!
