Looks like he's played for some good clubs, can't say I know much about him though. Port Vale/Northampton fans??

Great Signing.

Liked by pretty much our entire fan base. Can play CB or LB. Easily was our best ball playing defender, he likes to bring the ball out from the back and covers the ground well for a defender. Majority of our fans were sad to see him go, he seemed to be the fall guy for our teams defensive record, even though he wasnt at fault for a lot of the goals. No offense but expected him to go a team with loftier ambitions. Not tall for a CB but competes well in the air, he was good with the fans aswell, had time for the fans and sat in the away end on occasions when injured. You will really enjoy watching him play, I certainly did and am annoyed he is not part of our squad this season.

That's good stuff, loftier ambitions? Murray has frequently said he's going for promotion so with that thought in mind I'd assume Murray has sold that vision to him.

I think Collins is an average League 2 centre half, which is probably why he is at Mansfield and hasn't gone to a League 1 side, and I wasn't greatly fussed we released him. He's good on the ball so should fit Murray's supposed new philosophy, and is very pacey. However, he is quite short and not too dominant over strikers and frequently cost us quite a few goals. It seems marking from corners let him down, and I think we've got better in Cresswell and Diamond. Hope he does well however, as he seemed to genuinely enjoy his time here and was upset when released.

I have concerns Diamond and Cresswell are too slow to be great partnership. Granted they will header everything that comes that way but pace is going to be a big concern there.

It's a tough balancing act to get right. Speedy small centre half/big bastard = not as dominant as you would like and 2 big bastards = worries with balls over the top. Personally I wouldn't mind playing with wing backs, but that'd hamstring our forward play slightly

Manager in "we're going for promotion shocker".

Nothing says buy a season ticket like a manager saying "We're aiming for mid table mediocrity"

When he signed for Chelsea from Stockport yeah, had a few injury issues apparently, but a 6ft 4 CB sounds promising.

Again though, overshadowed by the Bingham signing.

I'm by no means touting us as promotion contenders or pointing any fingers but does seem our elderly neighbours are ignoring recent history on teams dropping from league 1, especially when they think they think they are above all this.

At least 2 of you tried to nick bayo. Would not have been too disappointed myself but there you go. I suppose he is good for 15 odd goals next season.

Lee Collins was very good for us and I think it was a big mistake to let him go but he was a player that wasn't signed by CW which does seem to count against you. He will get a good reception from our fans when he returns to Sixfields.

Benning = Looks great going forward, surprised he's not a winger, but not so good defensively. Similar to Elder last year who was very good.
Tafazolli = When in form one hell of a defender who can be no nonsense or play it out. Also a giant.
Collins = Pacey and can play it out from the sounds of it. Lots of praise on the Northampton forum saying he'd end up in league one.

We just need a decent rightback now to have a much superior defence to the rubbish we had last year of Martin Riley Ritchie Sutton and Lee beavers who have all gone back to the conference. And hopefully Luke Jones makes a recovery.

I know its not the best defence in the league by no means but its an improvement on whats we've got so I'm happy.

Also don't understand the comments saying its hard to change philosophy from a long ball team when all of those players have been shipped out and those who can play football have been kept. I don't think we will be expecting much but if murray delivers on his plans then we could surprise a few, if not it will be an average season.

We've signed Sean Clohessy from Colchester and Sammy Moore from Wimbledon.

Sad times for us that these are the sort of signings we now have to make.

But this is where we are, Moore is ok for this level and Clohessy did ok for Southend.

Well I am taking a completely different approach to Mansfield fans at the moment who seem to be setting themselves up for a bit of a disappointment. I won't be making any serious comment about our season until it starts; some good signings so far, and Michael Raynes too, but who knows what'll happen.

Surprised at Moore, thought he would drop down.

He's big. Very big. Great to throw forward at the end of the match if you are chasing an equaliser and need a target man up front, but when it comes to defending he is very pedestrian. A real carthorse.

But I quite liked him.

Pretty much exactly how I felt about him. Likes a big hoof forward. But quite a handy target from set pieces and I will always think fondly of him for scoring our first goal back in the football league. I have a feeling he was injured most of his time with Stevenage? I never saw him line up against us last season anyway.

We're after Graham Burke who was released by Villa today. Obviously had him on loan and he scored the goal that should have kept us up - he was ok, can't say it's a signing that would convince me that's the left winger position sorted but he showed the odd glimpse and he's young and confident enough to potentially be a decent player and would be an asset...especially at this level.
