Sky Sports News reporting Luton have bid £120,000 for Alex Woodyard. Unless that's a release clause, no way is that acceptable.

Low release clause might explain why he signed a new deal in the summer? That does seem excessively low though.

Luton fans - I heard that we were looking at Luke Gambin at some point or other, but I didn't read too much into it as I'm sure you lot will be looking to recuperate some of the money you shelled out for him, money we can ill afford at this time. He's only halfway through a two and a half year contract if I'm not mistaken?

Then a while back, I heard you were supposedly interested in Harrison Dunk, but I thought this even more ridiculous as I don't think he's good enough for a promotion aspiring side like Luton.

Any truth in the above?
Not heard this to be honest. Gambin is an unlucky player. He’s got to force his way into probably the strongest part of our team. And when he did, he had to play for Malta in a pointless friendly and lost his place.

If that's his release clause I will be furious. Still not sure he would go. He's been with the Cowleys everywhere they've gone, basically like an adopted son. Thhat said, there are rumours his girlfriend wants him to move back south so that could impact his decision.

Yes, he's got another season and a half to run on his deal. Jones did say the other day how much he likes Gambin and sees him as a part of the squad going forward, I wouldn't be surprised though if the player wanted out. He doesn't get nearly enough game-time here as it is and I can't see him forcing his way in any time soon as there are effectively four players ahead of him in the queue for three possible positions.

Could we perhaps interest you in a Jordan Cook or Lawson D'Ath instead? I imagine either would be free to a good home.

Then a while back, I heard you were supposedly interested in Harrison Dunk, but I thought this even more ridiculous as I don't think he's good enough for a promotion aspiring side like Luton.

I saw that rumour but I'd find it hard to believe. The only place he'd fit in our system is left back, he doesn't strike me as the kind of winger who could convert to a central role and I know he's played left back quite a bit in the past. But we've got Potts who has the left back slot nailed down, James Justin (the one we've turned down 7 figure bids for in the summer) as second choice (he's right sided by trade but good with both feet and often plays better on the left than on the right weirdly), and a promising young left back in Jack Senior who is highly rated by Jones. I can't see any truth in the rumour unless maybe we sell Justin (or Potts, been a few vague rumours about him as his contract is up in the summer but we do have an option to extend by a year).

I think there is an element of truth in it, been rumblings of this for a few weeks now. I'd be surprised if that was the release clause as more than Luton will take a punt on him particularly from higher divisions.

Frecks arrival does give us some flexibility with this as personally I'd want Bostwick in CM and I can't see Freck happy to be on the bench. Wilson has also not come in to be on the bench. Woodyard has been excellent but there is scope for us to let him leave should he desire it without it hitting us as much as it would 2 weeks ago.

You’d probably be surprised. They signed Luke Berry from us for <£300,000 off the back of a 20+ goal season, Woodyard definitely wouldn’t be worth more at this stage surely

Yeah I did think of the Berry parallels, that one sounded an absurdly low fee (when it was first rumoured he was off to Scotland anyway) but turned out to be basically true presumably down to a release clause.

Can't say I know much about Woodyard but given the fees that were suggested earlier in the window when we were linked I'd be much happier at that price if it turns out to be true.

Just caught up and seen that it is Pete O'Rourke reporting it (and he's saying it is a release clause).

He had a decent record with LTFC transfer news until this window but he's peddled a few nonsense ones (most recently that we were in for Aldred at Bury) so I'd take it with a heavy dose of salt for now.

We've supposedly missed out on Wilks from Leeds as he's opted to join Grimsby on loan instead

Few thoughts on our transfer rumours.

Steven Caulker is ridiculous and Jones flat out denied that we were interested. In theory that is the end of that except Jones does flat out lie regarding transfers in his press conferences, Isaac Vassell to Birmingham being a prime example. He also knows Caulker from playing at Yeovil together. There is also a bit of chat on twitter that he has been spotted n training a couple of the players were talking to each other on twitter about him. I can find evidence of neither so file this one firmly under bollocks I reckon.

Khan is a strange one. Doesn't look like the type of midfielder we necessarily need unless a few are going out. He gave a no comment interview etc but as others have said, he flat out denied another transfer in the same interview, so read into that what you will.

Woodyard should be our top target and I sincerely hope he is. £120,000 does seem ridiculously low but then again football fans are massively prone to over valuing our players. If there is a release clause, we should definitely pursue that. We've a fair wedge in the bank, especially if Marriott leave Peterborough this window (20% sell on, allegedly), so I'd be prepared to throw a bit of money at him. Wouldn't be surprised if we went up to £250,000 for him.
Am sure we will see some movement over the next week. McQuoid out, if anyone will take him, Cook too. Gambin or D'ath will probably go if a midfielder comes in.

Maybe you were in for Aldred but he just turned you down

Jones said it was a nonsense rumour and we were never in for him even before he moved to Scotland so whilst possible I'm inclined to think O'Rourke was just wrong. He's also been repeatedly claiming in recent weeks that we've told Leeds we would sell James Justin for £1m when we've already turned down that and more for him in the summer and since then he's signed a new long-term contract.

Woodyard hasn't been playing like he normally does of late, clearly had his head turned.
No point keeping a player who doesn't want to be here.
Tapped up on new years day?

The Woodyard bid smells of a release clause to me. £120k seems a slightly odd opening offer otherwise. Whilst that fee is very, very low for someone of Woodyard's quality, it's a minor miracle we managed to keep hold of him in the summer anyway, much like Raggett albeit in a slightly different way. So we could have lost him for nothing back then but got him to sign a new deal presumably with a release clause in as we had all guessed really. It was the only logical explanation of him staying.

If it is a release clause, they'll be, or should be, basically all of L1 offering that and trying to sign him.

It's been one of those rumours that wouldn't go away and seemed slightly different to the normal, 'I've got a mate' type ones and as stated previously, his missus isn't moving up here for whatever reason. I can't imagine that'd be a massive part in his thinking but I'm sure it'd be a part of it.

We're better placed to lose Woodyard than Raggett, with Frecklington already in the building so if we do lose him then it doesn't leave us as short because Wilson comes in and we move Bostwick back into midfield.

If you were to ask Lincoln fans to name a player who sums up Lincoln under the Cowleys and they'll say Woodyard. A terrific player.

That's not entirely accurate.
He said he's someone he knows well and hasn't been training with us (he thought he was training at West Ham).
He didn't say we weren't interested in signing him.
But its not going to happen. We're not going to pay a player £10k a week for the rest of the season, even for 4 months.

So if Luton do sign Woodyard, that would be him and Berry for £420,000. Or 7.5 days wages for Alexis Sanchez. Or less than a Jack Marriott or maybe a Tyreeq Bakinson. A steal at this level really.

Luton are the Del Boys of League 2.

With a cringe tweet about being a Vale Assassin because he scored a penalty in 2010 against us

Didn’t he score for Sheffield United in that FA Cup game where we were 1-0 up then conceded 2 late goals and lost?

Del Boy used to buy a load of shite.

Oh, and you understate transfer fees that Luton pays and overstate ones they receive like it’s a hobby.

Do I? None of us officially know what undisclosed fees are paid but can make a pretty decent estimate.

Oh and trust me, we’ve bought plenty of hooky gear over the years.

He's worth far than you've offered and he's under contract until June 2019.

Would have thought so. Also reckon we’ll go back in with a higher offer if we are properly interested.

Doesn't sound from the way Cowley is talking there that he has a release clause, if it was a case of us just upping our bid until we hit the clause then you wouldn't think he'd come out and say some of the things he does in that interview.

Which makes the low original bid seem a bit strange, we must have known Lincoln would never accept that (if indeed the rumoured fee is anywhere near accurate).

We're in a good place financially as you all know so we don't need to sell players.

Believe he got them both. Blackman ran us ragged that second half.

We’re just assembling and moulding together a nice little squad fit for a relegation battle next season.
