Know little about the guy except that he was a regular at Stranraer and has worked with both Mark Cooper and his deputy Scott Lindley in the past. And if he is a bench warmer, does it matter if he is not Premiership standard.
Three years ago FGR sold Sam Russell to Gateshead whose fans did not rate him during season he was with them.
Sam returned to FGR and played every minute of our promotion season.
Seems players react differently, better or worse, within different teams and different managers.

Russell is ten times the goalkeeper Belford is. If he's fourth choice and going nowhere near the first team that's ok. But he's not L2 standard. He s not even conference standard.

Even Gary Mills realised Belford was shit and loaned him out to Stranraer after less than half a season with us. We replaced him with Rhys Taylor who looked like Lev Yashin in comparison.

There we go, as predicted. I actually rate Cole Stockton though... which is why I'm certain we won't sign him. He'll get as far as negotiating pay and realise that Nixon wants to pay him in vouchers for free Pirelli tyres.
Stockton seems to have had a dismal time north of the border. A bit fragile mentally. Needs the kind of manager who believes in him, bolsters his confidence, as Bentley and Mellon did, but less sure Curle could do that.

I wonder how this keeper from Stranraer will cope with leaving behind a tinpot Mickey Mouse outfit with shit support to sign for a completely different animal in FGR..............

According to The Sun (so it must be true), Brighton & Hove Albion have had a £1.5m bid, plus add ons, for James Justin accepted by Luton Town. I guess those add ons include international and appearance clauses plus a whopping sell on clause, which tends to be put on most of our transfers these days.

So for Conker's and any other Mansfield fans benefit and to prove I don't just make up numbers. These are the rumoured transfer fees received by LTFC in the last year. All undisclosed - any Luton fans disagree?

Freddie Hinds - £150k
Cameron McGeehan - £850k
Jake Gray - £20k
Jack Marriott - £450k
Isaac Vassell - £1.7m
Tyreeq Bakinson - £400k
(Andre Gray - £600k final payments)

Players inbound:
Lawson D'Ath - £25k
Luke Gambin - £100k
Jack Stacey - £50k
James Collins - £250k
Harry Cornick - £50k
Luke Berry - £250k rising to £300k on promotion
Aaron Jarvis - £10k

We have signed Yeovil fan and striker Ryan Seager on Loan from Southampton, presumably replacing Marcus Barnes who is injured.

Released by Stranraer... they're barely even Evo-stik League standard.
Sounds typical .. given that when we were the Conference we had Elliott Frear leave us for Scottish Prem, now we’ve gone up a league and taking players from two leagues below the Scottish Premier. Doesn’t make sense. Why don’t we just bring in a lower L2 standard keeper, can’t be that hard surely. Not asking for a world beater just someone better than the 19yo currently between the sticks.

Let’s face it none of us have any idea about this and indeed how the transfers are structured unless GS states in the programme, and even then he’s told the odd porky recently with regards transfer business.

Most of those seem reasonable though except Hinds/Bakinson, especially Bakinson. Surely Bristol City aren’t paying that for unproven kids? 400k for Bakinson seems particularly egregious. That one doesn’t pass the smell test for me.

Hinds was in that ballpark I'm sure. At the time with Tyreeq it was said that "it was a good deal for the club", so he wouldn't have gone on the cheap certainly.

A guy at work told me at the time that Bogle went to Wigan for 25M and as nobody has denied this and it was undisclosed, I'm calling it a true rumour. :ohy:

Good business, but not as good as last year when we sold Wyke to Bradford for a world record fee (since broken by Neymar)

Now we've signed defender Shaun Donnellan on a free from West Brom. Has been on loan at Walsall this season.

After taking the piss out of FGR signing Belford, we’ve signed the 2nd choice keeper from Barrow.

Off to the pub pre Crewe. Exciting times indeed!

I am sure that I read numerous times on the Grimsby forum that Nathan Arnold wasn't football league standard. If he signs for Town does that suddenly all change then?

FWIW If Nathan does leave I wish him all the best, he is still a quality player.

He probably isn’t, all things considered. However, it’s a massive morale boost to bring in a player who actually cares and a past legend.

I think anyone who takes much notice of what is said on the fishy needs their heads testing!! Most were sad to see Nathan go. I think most believe he is good enough for league 2 on his day. Like most at this level, he doesn’t have that day every game which can be frustrating but still better than a lot of the options we currently have. I would welcome him back personally.

I was thinking this as i saw so many posters on the Fishy getting excited about him coming back. Just shows how desperate they must be, I guess.

Not just the Fishy. At the start of the season we were all told on here by Cambridge, Grimsby and Mansfield fans that he is not a League standard player.

Fair doos if Nathan leaves, he's 4th choice here and is too old not be playing week in week out.

I was hoping our squad would be getting bigger this Jan rather than smaller but I'm sure we'll be busy next week.

I don't believe it but someone on our forum reckons it's a swap deal for Dembele.

Alex Woodyard doesn’t want to move to Luton Town so that transfer is closed.

Jones just said in his interview that we inquired about Woodyard but he wasn’t up for a move so he won’t be a Luton player. Sounds from what NJ was saying it was more Woodyard didn’t fancy it than Lincoln turning it down but either way he isn’t coming.

Think that puts that one to bed then.

Sounds like we won’t be bringing anyone in from that interview to be honest, but of a shame as I think we could do with another defensive midfield player and perhaps a centre half but no big deal I guess.
