Plays centre forward now though and has been prolific at Conference North level. Probably worth a punt for Barnet as probably relatively cheap.

Really bad centre half though!

However does a defender manage to become a really prolific scorer lol

Unless he was placed in the wrong position to start with

We are apparently trying to sign Josh Payne from Crawley to continue our quest to have a squad made up of nothing but central midfielders.

Confirmed now. What’s he like Crewe fans?
We aren't the best people to ask. He played in the worst Crewe team for 30 years in League One during the 15-16 season, so had no chance to truly shine. He scored a few goals for us, but his overall displays were dreadful in my opinion. But, as already stated, he was in a shocking team. Reckon the drop down to L2, plus a bit more maturity and development and being in a decent team will see him do well for you.

How can you say that rumours prove you don’t make up numbers?

Fantastic Question.

Regarding Adam King, we could do with a midfielder chipping in with a few goals but I thought if we brought anybody in at this stage it would be somebody proven to do the business.

Hopefully he’s a gem.

Stephen Caulker training with us, just to get fit as it stands but he's a free agent so you'd assume it's with a short-term deal in mind at least.

Can't believe he's only 26, seems like he's been around for an age. Played for England 5 years ago. A deeply troubled guy in recent years from what I recall though so who knows what he is like now, seem to recall reading an article about him a few months ago where he talked about his struggles with depression etc, maybe a move to a lower level where he will play every week with less pressure might help him in more ways than one.

Someone posted a link to that article on Outlaws. He appears to have had a lot of mental illness issues and while he may be looking for a new start it doesn't mean these problems are gone for good. There's no doubt he has talent. You don't have the career he's had without being gifted. The problem for us is that one, he will need a lot of fitness training and match experience to get anywhere near the level he was before and two, and more importantly, he is a huge risk, bearing in mind that mental illness is a problem that just doesn't go away. I haven't heard NJs interview but twitter states that he is just being given a chance to get fit and enjoy his football again. Of course a Stephen Caulker who was half as good as he was in his peak and in full heath, would be a big asset for the club in this division. Not convinced he has reached any of those goals as yet. Good of the club to help him with his rehabilitation though.

You have to wonder if clubs are going to assist more going forward with things like this.

As in most sectors, it appears that mental health is something that folk are only becoming aware of more recently - Aaron Lennon was another recent football story about the topic.

I work for St. John Ambulance, and we have recently started offering mental health courses to companies, and it's proving a very popular course.

It seems as if there are so many factors which could cause angish - heckling from the crowd, worrying about finances if receive an injury etc.

It's good of Luton to assist him, and i'd like think my club would do the same in such circumstances.

Nathan Arnold suffers quite badly with anxiety. His form dipped noticeably in the second half of last season (although still contributing) and it wasn't until the summer that he explained how bad his problems were at the time and the 2 or 3 years before that. Then everything made sense about his form.

On the day we won the league he was quite withdrawn from the celebrations as well, as explained in the below link, which was a shame. You build up all season for that point and can't enjoy it or get too involved because it's holding you back.

He held an Anxiety Awareness evening at Sincil Bank at the start of pre-season, which was a success. That seemed to help him quite a bit and from memory he wasn't too complimentary about anyone at Grimsby giving him the help he needed there unlike here.

Disaster that! He has been outstanding in the main part. We never learn from these windows do we! We need to find someone in place that is reliable by Wednesday.
I was never that impressed with him when he was here. He had a head like a 50p, not very good with the ball at his feet and seemed to have an awkward running style.

He had some iffy games but he was a big unit which we needed with Smith. He was a proper league two style defender, limited yes but did a job. Was superb at Notts County the other week against their physical presence... no surprise he went off injured with a broken nose and we lost it late on.

Our Matt Tootle has spoken quite extensively this season about suffering from anxiety and depression when he was with Crewe and Shrewsbury. It's great that players feel more comfortable talking about this kind of thing now.

Chesterfield sniffing around Jonathan Forte, according to our local paper guy.

Nolan clearly doesn't fancy Forte so if we can get his hefty wages off the bill and get a replacement in then it'd be fine by me.

Would be a good signing for Chesterfield, though. Not the player he was six or seven years ago, but is still a decent finisher and has half a yard of pace. Have heard that the reason Nolan doesn't rate him is probably the same as why he pissed away the best years of his career on a hefty wedge in Southampton's reserves - he isn't driven enough to try and earn a starting place.

Knowing vale we won't sign anymore defenders we will just do what we have been doing all season fitting Pugh in at left back or play Barnett at centre half like we did for the reserves a couple times.if we do sign someone it's only going be a young lad on loan probably no better than what we have already.

Considering the success of our youth system with Smith gibbons boot Turner Reeves playing quite a few times for the first team we could just give more games to youth team graduates like Dennis centre half walford left back and calveley centre midfield I think you get money from the football league for playing home grown players under 21 aswell.

Fantastic of Luton to give a troubled player some sort of opportunity. I think it’s something lower league/non league clubs should be looking to do more of.

Can’t see us signing anybody else. Aspin isn’t very happy at all; clearly Norman hasn’t been very economical with the truth.

I expect Anderson to turn up at a lower end League One club. Probably Oldham, Bury or Rochdale.

Doesn't look like we're signing anybody in this window which is fine as the 0.25 points per game were averaging over the last 8 games I'm sure will be enough to see us safe.

We will sign someone but be like last season... underwhelming. Mind you if we could pull another Andre Bikey out the hat that would do!

Don’t see why we don’t look a Lewis Nyatanga or Kelvin Wilson who are both free agents although fitness will be an issue.

Maybe we should have just given Mad Gav the longer term deal he wanted after all.

Any team averaging 1 point in every 4 games isn't a very good team. Imo.

I think all Grimsby fans are aware they are not a very good team. Imo.
I can't remember ever before not caring when we lose a game, but that's where I'm now at.
Were at Yeovil tomorrow and I genuinely couldn't give a shit what the result is, until Slade fucks off and we get our club back I'm just no longer interested anymore.
