Thought Blissett had already agreed a deal with Macc during his loan spell.
I thought that too, but said on the retained list article on OS that he had returned from his loan, but we have offered him a contract to stay.

Made a difference to us to be fair, just that missing physicality up front which we've lacked for a few years. Scored 5 goals I think, but more than anything the switch in formation to fit him in ended up with the midfield scoring loads more goals than they had in the first half of the season.

(re. Scott Brown) A good shot stopper but like a vampire he's scared of crosses and stays on his line expecting defenders to clear it away.

I would say that's a 7/10 signing in terms of quality. Without doubt he has made some exceptional saves in his time that have saved us points, but yeah, he's got some obvious flaws for sure. But hey, he's an L2 keeper, what do you expect.

I wouldn't have cried if we kept him, but wasn't that sorry to see him leave either.

Anyway, regardless, he was decent enough, so good luck Scott.

A position we've struggled to fill since the sale of Alnwick 18 months ago. The fact we've played something daft like 9 keepers since then tells you everything. Experience, a winning pedigree and a decent reputation. More than made up with Brown signing.

Its the perfect signing for us due to what we have endured in the sticks, usually kids or crocks, even the Benfica Number 2 who played half hour then decided to quit!

We need experience at the back with our young backline so i'm delighted to have just a steady eddy with experience.

7/10 is far improved from the last 2 years of signings :bg: a steady keeper making odd mistakes the past season and we would have probably been 6-8 points better off easily with some of the errors we've made consistently.

Did I see that Mansfield have transfer listed Will Atkinson? Would certainly have him back at Southend, sad it didn't work out for him there.
I would say Swindon will be in for him but there were a few rumours at the time he left us that he turned down Southend's contract offer because he no longer wanted to work with Phil Brown.

Rumours we are interested in midfielders Josh Wright and Anthony Wordsworth who Southend has released. Phil Brown has worked with them before so logically we would be linked. I think, based on nothing at all that Wordsworth is a goal scoring midfielder?

I'd be gutted if he didn't sign. Like you said, he's the kind of player we've been missing for years.

I guess the thing is now we're in League 2, we need a big physical guy who scores 15-20 goals a season as well!

Leon Legge has followed a couple of Vale staff on twitter so appears to be moving closer to a potential conclusion on that one.

Luke Varney another rumour today... done nothing in years although generally 2 leagues above... had another Tyrone Barnett disaster written over that one though IMO

Rumour on our forum Macclesfield Town are looking to extend their number of ex Valiants at the club by signing transfer listed Tyrone Barnett and Joe Davis... praying this is true as we need to free up the budget to bring quality in and both have been huge flops for us!

Nicky Adams becomes Bury’s first signing of the summer, 1 year deal.

Not sure about this one myself, age could be an issue.

Nowt against Macc town, but, please let this be true.
Barnett is not a striker, in fact I think he’d be a half decent centre half.
Davis was cack 4 year ago.
If anything he’s worse now.

In fairness, Tyrone Barnett did play for Macc years ago and if it wasn't for them wouldn't have rose to prominence years ago.

As for Joe Davis fucking hell, all that family offer sod all to the game whether it's Steve, Harry or him. I always remember Joe getting subbed off after half an hour against us as he almost got himself sent off. Stealing a living in the league and wouldn't surprise me if he ends up in Scotland like Harry did.

I didn’t mind Davis when he came through, we finished ninth in league one that season and he was decent enough but he’s not done enough this season, gone backwards. I think fans who suffered Cambridge last week will never want him near the black and white again!

Barnett was either injured or couldn’t be arsed. I thought he would knock in a few goals to chip in but didn’t feature much and bar a decent goal at Carlisle and a header against Newcastle kids in the Checkatrade he has offered little, the fact we played kids ahead of him in the final games speaks volumes.

Is there actually anything behind these rumours other than Askey's link to Vale, and Barnett's previous stint with us?

I'd hope we're not in for either of them, but then again I doubt we're going to have the pick of the better players available in this league for next season!!

Rumours we are interested in midfielders Josh Wright and Anthony Wordsworth who Southend has released. Phil Brown has worked with them before so logically we would be linked. I think, based on nothing at all that Wordsworth is a goal scoring midfielder?

This is what I said about Wordsworth in another thread, he's been linked with Luton as well:
When he's good, he's really good, when he's bad, my god you wonder how he's a professional footballer.
He's one of those players that when the whole team are playing well and things are going good he shines and you wonder why he's not playing at a higher level. Good technically, good set pieces, decent passer.

But christ some of his 'performances' when the team went on a bad run or started a game badly, you may as well have just played with 10 men.
Whatever you do don't play him anywhere other than centre midfield either, he'll decide to just move from his position into centre mid and screw whatever the team were trying to achieve. This also goes for other formations than 4-4-2, when Brown tinkered and we played 4-5-1, 4-3-3, 3-5-2 and the like he looked uncomfortable and frankly lost.

As for Wright didn't see a lot of him, one of those players that if on his game was very effective, but sadly that was probably 20% of the time, the other 80% games just seemed to pass him by.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Anton Ferdinand end up with Swindon either. I just hope for your sake that Phil and his scouts can do a bit better on the injury side of things cos I'm struggling to think of a Phil Brown signing that hasn't had significant time out due to injuries.

Local rag is to name our three fullback targets tomorrow which is very interesting. Usually a manager wouldn't make knowledge of their interest in public so he must be confident of snapping up 1 or 2 of them.

No idea who we're after. Few names mentioned have been Andy Kellett (possible) and Junior Brown (former player but I doubt it) but we'll soon find out in the morning.

Seems Jay Spearing is our next signing. I hope this means Dawson is leaving.

I see after the abject failure of the "throw shit loads of money at it" approach this season, Day is doubling down on the same tactic for next season. What can possibly go wrong?

Our fullback list has been revealed. Chris Hussey, David Fitzpatrick and Jordan Cranston.

Hussey is arguably the best of the three. Never seen Fitzpatrick play so Macc fans what's he like? Hope to God we don't sign Cranston though. I remember him looking suspect defensively against Wrexham at Conference level which fills me with no confidence at all.

Hussey is a great signing for this level. Fair play to Crewe.

Poor Carlisle, everyone seems to be rejecting their contracts.

Class act. One of our best players and pulls out solid 7-8/10 every match.

Have you offered him a contract?

Because we treated the players and management like shit over the past few months.

The board couldn't make their mind up over whether to offer Curle a new contract and delayed opening discussions with out of contract players, even though signing up the likes of Joyce, Adams and Hill should have been a high priority. Adams made no secret of his desire to remain with us next season, but also pointed out he couldn't afford to just sit around and wait for the board to decide whether to offer him a contract. Curle and the players held a meeting towards the end of the season in which they talked about the 'distractions' and got things out in the open. I'm sure with the number of departures this summer we'll soon find out what was said in that meeting. Clearly Adams decided enough was enough and that the club haven't earned his loyalty.

Also rumours we're offering our first team players heavily reduced terms, and we weren't even high payers before. So far of the 5 senior players we've offered new contracts, 3 have turned us down, I expect Ellis will be the next out the door that just leaves Grainger who will probably stay being a local lad, unless the offer was really derisory. It's just a good job there aren't more out of contract first team players, with Devitt, Liddle and Jones having triggered automatic extensions earlier in the season and Hope, Etuhu, Bennett, Stockton, Parkes and Kennedy already contracted to next season. Those nine, plus Grainger and the kids are likely to be our only contracted players until we can start making signings. That's three strikers (two of which have been disappointing), four midfielders (two of whom missed most of the season through injury), and three defenders (one of whom can't actually defend and is more of a wing-back).

I'm not looking forward to next season, can we just skip straight to 2019/20 and our attempt to rebuild in the Conference? Hopefully with new ownership.

Adams is one of the best players in this division, sounds like he didn't have a good time of it last time he was in Bury, but if that's the case then you should find him transformed.

Would imagine he’s still demanding quite a packet?

If we get rid of Dawson and Spearing is a 1-2 year deal then id say that's worth the risk. We don't know who's leaving yet.

The Spearing thing could be bollocks who knows?

With Hussey it depends on what sort of full back you want. If you need a full back that can throw in some decent crosses but is hopeless defending, then he's your man.
