He adds legs to a central midfield pairing that for most of the past season has had a combined age of 70!

He seems exactly what we need in there, alongside hopefully a more attacking central midfielder which is the next target to sort.

We have just appointed someone called Richard Hughes as our head of recruitment...so, hopefully news of a player or two in the not too distant future.

Why are some of our fans so impatient? It's mid May ffs. There's been years we haven't signed anyone till late June/early July. These things take time, so why do people keep asking "have we signed anyone yet?"

It's like going on a long trip with two 5 year olds in the back.

There are lots of players we'll go after who will go to bigger clubs instead, so clubs like us have to be patient. We probably will sign around 10-15 players before August, but they wont all come in straight away.

Luke Joyce's deal is a 2 year deal which makes sense.

Daniels is an intriguing one, a wonder of a free kick on him, seems to have the talent but Alfreton fans and Aspo from experience seems to have questions over attitude, he had a six month deal to prove he is ready for this level so a low risk move but one that hopefully will come off.

Seem to be getting our number one targets which shows the difference between this and last season... Final Whistle gone last year Brown went on holiday for two weeks and we ended up signing dregs in July! This year Aspo and Rudge have been on it for weeks and we've made three signings before the second leg and been linked with a few more such as Legge and the lad from TNS.

Two key faults last season have been addressed in the keeper crisis and an ancient lumbering midfield with limited quality... hopefully we keep this trajectory going and we might have a half decent season.

Interestingly a player was in (assume before Joyce) he was offered a deal but wanted more money... we said no... virtually agreed a deal with another option, he came back said can I sign now and we said no!

If Byron Moore was a poor man's Theo Walcott for us at his best, and if Colin Daniel was a poor man's Byron Moore, then Brendan Daniels is a poor man's Colin Daniel.

The kid has got talent but he hasn't got a brain. I don't know what changed him mind. He was a good down to Earth lad despite not making the grade for us but seems to have developed an awful attitude in non league.

If his atitude isn’t right with us he will be gone by January. Aspin has been ruthless with that side of things so far.

Death, taxes and the Vale signing a former Alex player. Good to see Aspin continue to long held Vale tradition of signing our cast offs. So when is Chris Dagnall signing Vale fans?

Personally disappointed. Joyce is a real cultured midfielder, a good passer of the ball, and a hard worker and solid player. I kind of get HG's view that he doesn't offer enough going forward and isn't as good as Jones, but I really don't think we'll be in a position next season to bother about what our midfielders offer going forward. From recent experience we know all too well how important it is when you're at the wrong end of the table to just try and get square pegs into square holes. If we had two strong holding midfielders who work well together then that could be vital in a relegation scrap.

In any case, rumours on our board are that Jones will be allowed to leave if someone comes in for him.

Happy with Brown and Joyce so far. Two players that played big parts in teams that finished well above us.

We were desperate for a decent, experienced keeper and for a hard worker in the middle that can win the ball and do something with it, even if it is just a simple ball out from our own half. We’ve really missed that sort of player.

Daniels is an interesting one. Obviously Aspin sees something in him that has made him take a short term punt on him. He’s from Smallthorne (right around the corner from Burslem) so maybe being back home will sort his attitude out. Any sort of rubbis attitude from him and he will be gone in January.

We need 2 centre backs (ideally one that could fill in at full back), an attacking midfielder, a winger and a striker.

 this better be fucking bull shit.

It’s one thing losing out of contract players because it’s exoected when we don’t have a manager, but If that’s true and we’re looking to offload our contracted players that are actually good, then we really are heading to the conference.

... just me who isn’t bothered about losing any players, then?

Let’s be honest, they were brought in solely to win us promotion and they have failed on both occasions. Big money was spent, by our standards anyway, on these lot to get the job done and now we’re having to cut our cloth accordingly so good riddance.

I despise the BoD as much as the next but we can’t carry on paying over the odds for players who haven’t done what they were paid to do. I just that they go down the route of a manager who wants to put together a youthful team who are eager to do well - rather than someone who’ll just buy a load of journeyman ballers.

And you base this on 7 matches? Presumably some of which were away from home. Unless of course you go to all the aways?

To be fair he was a kid then so will give him a chance. It’s a low risk move as he only has a six month deal initially so if it works great if it doesn’t we’ve only lost a few grand.

Nathan Blissett linked with us today too, been on loan at Macc Town from Plymouth. Suggestions that he has been offered to come to us in pre season on trial.
Just don't sign him.

I guess the thing is now we're in League 2, we need a big physical guy who scores 15-20 goals a season as well!
Blissett is nowhere near good enough for L2. A blessing in disguise if you don't sign him.

Yes that is what i was saying, basically a Crewe fan digging at us , reels in shock ! .
How Trinidad can judge a bloke on a few games 5 1/2 years ago to what he is now.
Basically we have nothing to lose. Only signed till January, so if he makes it great, if not he goes back to plying his trade at lower levels.

Cook is off to Walsall.
We’ll see.

Only yesterday I was told Tranmere had improved their offer; Cook wanted to stay and had rejected £3,500 per week from Salford.

Edit: Tranmeres offer was for £2,000 per week plus bonuses.

Cant see Walsall having the money to outbid us unless they’re making him some kind of marquee signing.

Salford are not chucking 3,500 p/w out, let’s be realistic.

They offered him 2.5k with a large signing on fee but he turned it down. This seems to be pretty common knowledge on Tranmere forums. I don't really know where TranmereWhite gets his figures from, they seem somewhat unrealistic.

The wage was £2650, not £2500. The signing on fee made it effectively a £3,500 a week wage.

Even if its the same money they are in a league higher. He'd be daft not to take it.

And there was me wondering whether he'd do the job in League 2! I doubt he's coming cheap for Walsall, and it seems like a bit of a gamble to me. Good luck to the lad though. An awkward looking player, but he knows where the goal is.

Salford are not chucking 2.5k at players either, it’s all nonsense.
