One of the match day 18 has to be "club-developed", although I can't find out what that actually means in practice. I think there's one or two other clubs who don't have academies either (Yeovil maybe), i'm not sure whether it would still apply and you'd have to only field six subs.

Will be a good opportunity for what seems to be a good crop of Under 18s at Notts as there's no one older than that left with a contract.

We do have an academy which restarted when we got relegated to league 2, but haven't offered any of the graduates pro contracts. Instead we seem to be trying to get meet the rule by trying to sign Craig Alcock who came through the academy in 2005.

1 player of the first 18 must be homegrown. Don’t know the exact wording. In the 19/20 season, it becomes two players.

Thanks. As long as Danny Whitaker signs up then we'll get away with it.

Imagine one of Howes, Osborne and Campbell will be seeing bench time then? Not sure about Howes, but liked the look of Osborne when seeing fleeting glimpses of him. Apparently Campbell could well break into the first team as well. A bit like the days of Allsopp, Stallard and Heffernan!

Just wondering if everyone’s got an academy player for their 18? Can imagine a few teams falling foul of the rules. I think our two younger players have been signed on longer contracts to combat this, as it’ll be 2 players out of the 18. Obviously we’d like to have a full squad of homegrown players but fair play to the FA for enforcing the rules.
We usually had one or two in our squad throughout last season. Think we had four at one point, although that was a reflection on the size of the squad rather than them realistically getting game time.

We seem to have a lost two or three years in our youth academy at the minute with 16 and 17 year olds being involved.

Whitaker and Ellison in the same league in the year 2018. Just noticed how similar they look as well, actually.

Barr Corr has signed a new player/coach deal.

Will bring great experience to the team and will get goals from the bench like he did last season whilst doing his badges and coaching our academy strikers.

Despite having no manager we have signed Nathan Welch-Hayes from Bath City on a 2 year deal. Was named in the Conference South TOTS last season.

Who is signing these players and why does the agent connection have me worried...

Two then for us, Frecklington came through ours in the earlys 00s and Ellis Chapman last season. We had a couple of academy lads on the bench throughout the season especially towards the season when we ran out of players.

You've got to give to the Cowleys to see this rule coming and signing Frecklington in January. So clever of them. I don't think there's a manager in this league that can get near the knowledge they have.

Bishop to Mansfield is a good signing for them. Will certainly demand teamwork and will want to control the middle of the pitch.

Could chip in with a few goals to but he’s not the box to box midfielder he was so will need a young quick partner to do the running.

From what he said before he signed it’s only a years contract as when asked if he was returning to Notts he replied “Not this season” although I wouldn’t imagine he’d come now in anything other than a mentor role.

What a shit rule.

It is as invariably means said player will miss match time with his development squad just to sit and watch a match from the bench.

Exactly.

If any homegrown kid is good enough, they should be in there on merit, not cos of some FA enforced quota shit. Otherwise it's just a waste of time, takes away someone's place who might actually get on the pitch and also stops the lad actually playing for the youth team that day.

We've got an academy, it's just that none of them ever make it to the first team. We released all of our second year scholars at the end of the season. One signed for Brighton the next day.

The problem we have is there is nothing between our U18 side and the first team. Our Chairman has admitted the reason we release all our academy players is they aren't ready to make the big step up. The last time a youth-teamer made a first team appearance for us was 2007. The good news is we are in the process of setting up an U23 team to bridge the gap.

You'll be joining our Central League division then I take it. Hopefully you're shitter then us, we need someone we can finish above.

Last season, along with our first team struggling, our U23's finished bottom of their league as did our U18's. Nice to see that we take the idea that the youth sides should play the same way as the first team seriously....

Our academy just got category 3 staus, and 2 lads have signed for bigger clubs in recent years, making us a bit of a profit. But no one has actually made it as a regular for our first team since Paul Stonehouse, more then a decade ago.

Your U18's and U23's are easily 'Head and Shoulders' the shittest teams in their leagues........ :woot:

I'm taking their comments with a pinch of salt, not because I think they're lying but because I think there's a lot more to it. His reviews in Scotland are great, I'll just hope he's good for us.

According to our Chairman we're going with an U21 rather U23 side. It won't be ready until the 2019/20 season though.

“Apparently nothing, nothing apparently”

Very happy with the D Jones signing on again , if Duffy follows suit as he surely will , that’s a more than good enough back 4 to challenge near the top of this league, who all know each other’s game inside out which should help at the start of the season.

According to our chairman (not the most reliable source), Dennis would have been the highest paid player in the last 15 years and Aspin wasn't prepared to do that.

Fair play to Notts County, they are really going for it but paying out a fee and ridiculous wages on a guy who has had one good season sounds like a gamble to me. Can you really sustain that sort of spending in League Two? I'm glad we pulled out of it, as it would have been detrimental to the squad.

Dan Jones and Duffy must have improved since they were with us. Jones was a decent attacker with a good left foot but couldn't defend for shit. Duffy was woeful in his final season and was the cause of a load of our conceded goals. It seems that League Two is their level.

Crewe fans don't seem to have a very positive view about Davis which I find a bit strange.

You don't play almost 200 games for a club (many in League 1) if your not a half decent player
