If Westcarr is a high earner anywhere then the manager needs shooting dead, for the sake of humanity.

I bet he's on £1,500 a week at the very least

Yeah I'd be shocked if it was lower than £1.5k a week.

I may have to up my prediction for mansfield to finish at least 22nd at this rate. If Green and Westcarr stay fit and fire then you would expect them to comfortably avoid the drop at least.

I wouldn't have him if he paid me £1,500 personally.

I haven't got time for players who don't fight when the chips are down. If you're in a relegation scrap, Craig Westcarr isn't going knuckle down and dig in with everyone else. He's going to hang around on the half way line waiting for someone to pass the ball straight to his feet

His goal in this was good times, though.

It's not just that really, like we had Arquin who was arsed once every 10 games but when he could be arsed he was like fucking Frankel he was so fast and strong that he could bully people. Westcarr is just so slow and weak that if you factor in his work-rate, he just gives you nothing as a striker, except that generally he's going to finish simple-ish chances at a higher-rate than most League 2 forwards but he never creates goals out of nothing or takes players on. It's like playing with 10 men. In fact, Notts fans actually chanted 'we've only got 10 men' at him away at Grimsby during our promotion season, so it's hilarious that some of them probably remember him fondly.

A) we won't be paying him £1500 a week
B) we can't afford that
C) we won't be anywhere near the relegation zone.
D) why would northampton fans think they will do anything special? Midtable side doing nothing, there's every chance we might finish above another midtable league 2 club doing nothing next season.

Fairly simple really with the players we have brought in and are going to bring in I am confident of getting promoted next season. The core of the squad is already there and we were already one of the top scorers last season. Sorting the defence out now, hence I believe we will finish above Mansfield.

Loving how some of the relegation candidates from last season are now calling themselves mid-table teams. Mansfield finished 21st last season and so far have signed two past-it strikers from what I can see. Relegation candidates again me thinks.

We've just signed Brett Williams from Aldershot. No idea if he's any good, seems to have scored a few goals for them over the last couple of years.

You could be disappointed. Average side you've got, you know it as do I.

I disagree, I know everyone tends to favour their own side but feel very confident of our chances this season. Happy to stick a wager on who will finish higer between us if you disagree.

My point is we were shit last season, as where you, we will be somewhere in midtable, realistic for us, what I dont get (and no specific beef with Northampton) your current squad is midtable too - hence my confusion as to why northampton fans would think they'd be any good when they probably wouldnt.

As for Mansfield and northampton - probably 70-30 in Northamptons favour

Fair enough, thing is our squad changed dramatically last season. We lost 10 from 12 at one point over october - december time. Got to January and paid off the dross, brought in quality and won 8 from 10. By the time the season was ending we ran out of steam, but with tweaks I think we will at least finish top 7. First half of the season we were very poor, second half not so, that second half of the season is what gives me confidence for this.

You finished 20th and have signed Michael Raynes along with 4 other players who haven't done much and you lot think you'll also be a mid-table side or better... with curle in charge you'll be still right in it.

Haha no we don't that's my point. I think we could be a mid-table team but I haven't ruled out another relegation battle, and that's even with our signings (apart from Raynes) being much less washed up than yours and the fact that we finished above you last season. You'll soon realise that you're still as tinpot as ever.

Westcarr was alright for us but never really utilised properly. Technically, he's a good player and he sometimes is willing to put a shift in. I doubt he'll be missed that much by Pompey fans, however.

He's probably talking about me, as I said the other day that I think we'll be midtable at least, and that hasn't really changed, unless we sell Dempsey.

I think our signings so far have been solid, and not very risky. We have a strong, albeit injury-prone 'keeper in Gillespie, Brough looked promising in the wing back role, and Charlie Wyke scored 6 in 12 for us last season, in a team which lacked creativity.

In my opinion, Mansfield have made some decent signings, but some of them look a little suspect.

I'm confident that we'll be finishing above them to be honest, like you say it all depends on Dempsey staying and staying fit. Happy with the Miller signing as well, I think if we keep Troy that could be our defence sorted.

Northampton fans on here are quite deluded but I'm not having Mansfield finishing higher than them with the current squad on paper.

We still have Troy Archibald-Henville (despite him being transfer listed) so Raynes might not get in the team.

It all hinges on Dempsey for us, if he stays we could do something. If he goes, you're probably right, we'll be down the bottom fighting for our lives.
