We've followed him on Twitter which usually means something is in the pipelines... and an interesting story has come out about it on our forum as well. Apparently Curle asked for the money to buy a big centre-forward (which I assume is Ibehre) from our owner, Jenkins, and his family have decided that they've had enough of him giving the club money. They've supposedly been watching our forum and reading all the insults about Jenkins and said that if it were up to them they wouldn't give us another penny.
It can't be to buy Ibehre because he's a free agent.

When you say "we" who do you mean? I've checked @officialcufc and it's not following him.
They were earlier! Radio Cumbria also are apparently although I haven't checked that one.

Just the wages I would imagine then. He won't be cheap by any means but I'd be well happy with him.
So would I, but all we're basing it on is radio cumbria following him. If I was in charge of their twitter id follow footballers just to wind fans up

It's that and the fact that it came at the same time as the story about signing a big proven target man. Seems to all fit together too well to be a coincidence.

I'm not sure. If that's right about them needing some money up front off Jenkins, that suggests a transfer fee is involved as wages wouldn't need to be paid like that. Unless of course Ibehre and his agent are demanding a big signing on fee.

I think it's more the fact that he'll have a reasonably big wage relative to the rest of our squad and we've got quite a lot of players now due to still having all the transfer-listed ones. Any signings now might have to be going over budget until we get rid of some.

Would he though? Bigger than Troy's (wage), Paynter's? Kennedy's?
I can't imagine Colchester being massive payers.

I hope it happens but I won't believe it until I've got something more than a local radio account following him on twitter.

I would think he'd be between £1k and £1.5k a week which is more than most of our squad, not massive pay by any means but still pretty big. I do think he'd be worth it though.

He'll be on more than that if he signs, as are most of our squad. Not many of our players are on less than 1k per week. Maybe the first year pros and someone like Rigg.

I don't think most of our squad will be on more than £1k a week. Wyke, for example, is rumoured to be on £300 a week with big goal bonuses.

Don't believe that for a second. But I do reckon Wyke will be one of the lower earners due to his lack of experience etc, likewise Atkinson and Miller now.

Anyway, I heard a few wages last season from someone who I reckon would have a good chance of knowing. This is what I was told..

Paynter is on around 3k pw
Archibald-Henville 2.5k pw
Robson was on 2k pw
Dicker, Grainger and quite a few others also on 2k pw.
Amoo got a large wage increase in his second season for hitting apps and goals targets in his first season.

I don't know Sweeney's but from speaking to a Hartlepool fan when we played at their place, he reckoned we'd trebled his wages to bring him, so I'd imagine he's up there in the 2k+ category as well.

I reckon Ibehre would be a high earner here but not at Paynter's level. The sooner we get Paynter off the wagebill the better.

I would say cut all of those by 1/3 and you'd be a bit closer. I think Gillespie, Grainger, Troy, Sweeney, Paynter, Dicker, Kearns and Kennedy will be on £1k+ a week, the rest I think would be below that. This will especially be the case with Curle's incentivised contracts.

If we based the contracts on talent obviously a good few of those wouldn't be on that much (thanks Kavanagh) but then if that was the case Dempsey would be on £10k a week.

Yeah but a lot of them aren't onCurle incentivised contracts. A lot of these are on the contracts we spunked out last summer to try and get back in league 1.

I understand that you're trying to justify our shite performances on the pitch, but being realistic we've massively underachieved.

We were told last summer that we had one of the biggest playing budgets in league 2. Now considering the average wage for this league is around 1.3k-1.5kpw, you're obviously way off the mark with if you think our entire squad is on average or below average wages for this level.

No, but all of those figures are so incredibly laughable that I don't need to.

We all know that Paynter is our top earner and I've heard several times that he's on £2k a week. I also don't think for a second that the average wage in League 2 is between £1.3k and £1.5k, I would've thought it would be below £1k a week given how many crap squad players every team has. In any case, we still only have a maximum of 8 players who I would suggest are on more than £1k a week. The rest are young, crap or have been signed by Curle on his incentivised contracts which will rarely go above £1k a week I would think.

Laughable as in too big or laughable as in peasants wages?

Maybe I live in a different world to you, but to me those wages aren't big. They are way more than they deserve after last seasons performance, but they aren't big in the real world.

If Troy is on £2.5k a week (which I doubt he is) you have been royally mugged off.

To be fair £150k a year for Paynter is astronomically high.

Maybe I got that average wrong. Sure I remember reading it somewhere, or maybe it was L1

He was apparently on twice that at Swindon.
Fooking hell well they were ripped off a bit. I guess they hoped his injury problems would go away, which is probably why they also only offered him a pay-as-you-play deal the second time around.

Aye me too. If someone could take Paynter that would help.
Imagine if someone actually took him. It would be the biggest robbery since Wyke was denied that penalty against Mansfield.

Or the biggest robbery since Paynter's last undeserved pay day.

Or the biggest robbery since Dempsey won all of the player of the year awards instead of a joint Paynter/Dicker victory.
