Yes they nearly embarrassed us. We won 4-0.

It was close for a long while though, 2 of your goals came right at the end on the break as they were camped in your half. Your keeper was motm.

How did he look playing for you guys? He’s as good a defender as you’ll get at L2 but his injuries unfortunately severely hold him back.

Not seen him my self but average is what I have heard.

Not really fair to judge him on some pre-season mind.

I suspect if we do offer him a deal it'll be "pay as you play" deal.

If such a contract were offered, that's upto him on whether he thinks a club would take a punt on him for a full time contract. Seems a decent player, but we've got caught short here before, and most fans don't have the appetite for a risky player again given players/Mansfield's previous lack of fortune in this area before.

Michael Doughty has signed on a 2 year deal. He was great for us in league 2 so should be a very solid signing at this level!

Yes they did, and then just ran out of steam and we cruised to a win.

Went, we scored 2 early on and killed the game then we never really built on it until the end. Dont recall our keeper being busy (only had three shots on target) but 4-0 was harsh as we scored two very late goals to gloss it over.

Was an ace night out though, literally had to park a couple of miles away and get a shuttle mini bus up because it was up the top of a hill which had something like a dirt track up to it. Really friendly though and was strange in that we'd had FGR the season before in the 1st round!

League 1. But you’re right. That’s a right good signing. Midfield is looking more than useful. Get the CBs sorted and we’re good to go.

Getting a ST this season, AS?

Doh I meant league 1 and wrote 2! Yeah we are a bit short at the back but think there are irons in that particular fire.

Nah, because I travel from London I pick and choose my games, what about you?

I wanted the club to show some intent - irrespective how it turns out. I think the signings so far and, most probably to come, have certainly done that.

So, yes. It’s going to be a good league this season.

Excellent bit of business for Cheltenham, getting a fee almost quadruple their record sale (Steven Gillespie to Colchester I believe?).

Doubt they'd manage to replace him with Macauley Bonne or Danny Rowe though. Rowe is on a rumoured £3K a week at Fylde and settled in the North West. Bonne may be on less but I can't see Orient giving him up for peanuts. With Cheltenham's record being £60,000 for Jermaine McGlashan as well back when they had a decent cup run in 2011-12, I can't see them stumping up the cash for Bonne.

If anything, some of that fee will go on wages for a League One striker working his way down the leagues imo.

Another decent midfield signing for Swindon. Gonna be a competitive league this season with plenty of clubs making decent signings.

Grimsby fans have any idea if you’re signing George Waring who we allowed to go on trial with you?

Very unclear what’s happening with him other than he isn’t in Mellons plans.

£1m up front and £500k to be made up through clauses, etc... Also heard that there's a 20% sell-on clause, but nothing official there.

I reckon that will leave us with around £500k for GJ to play with. In his interview after the Evesham game last week, it did seem like we'd practically agreed a deal with someone pending the outcome of this transfer - and this would be a contracted player. I'm not saying it is Macauley Bonne, I genuinely have no idea. The reports are that the top target is a National League player, but it could be literally anyone.

McGlashan is our record signing, although I was led to believe that was £75k, with bonuses if we did get promoted (we never did, obviously). I have no doubt that we will beat that, I just hope it's not on a mug.

Kalvin Kalala is also practically signed on, just awaiting international clearance, but again he won't be expected to jump straight into the first team.

It's a big 2 weeks before the window closes, but should be an exciting one for Town fans.

Wouldn't surprise me to see you go for someone like Morgan Ferrier given his low release clause and the fact lots of clubs are sniffing for him. Sounds a very realistic transfer for you that does.

Given Boreham Wood's statement on Saturday, I'll be amazed if anyone is in for Ferrier until he gets rid of his agent.

Same. Slim pickings this season for away matches though, having lost Luton, Barnet and Wycombe.

No, we sent him back after one game and said we won't be taking it any further.

Yeah. What a prick - or at least his agent
Speaking to Mark Palios, who didn’t give much away; he seemed to think there was a bit more to this and the agent wasn’t being as malicious as they make out. Seemed to infer Boreham Wood asked the agent to find him a club, but that’s just my interpretation.

We're about to sign Lee Martin, ex Gillingham plus loads of others. Can't say I know much about him but he has a decent pedigree.

Lee Martin captained Gillingham last season and played nearly 40 games in a solid L1 team. Reckon this is a good signing.

Do you know who the others are?

Sorry, didn't mean loads of other players, I meant loads of other clubs that Lee Martin had played for.

Ha, sorry misread that bit. Have heard their may be a few more this week, possibly some loans so could be a busy week.
