Our Chairman once explained it really well but it was a year ago so I can't remember it, however the gist of it is that League 1 is the worst division to be in, in terms of a financial model. League 2 it's quite easy to be competitive and keep down losses and the Championship is great because of the extra revenue (I think he said around £3m-£5m annually) but League 1 is just a bit of a state of purgatory.

That was a really bad explanation but I guess it's all backed up by him saying our budget this season is higher than it has been for the previous two seasons and also why players are willing to drop from League 1 to League 2 quite easily. I think it's just how football is evolving - between League 1 & League 2 there's a hell of a lot of similar sized interchangeable clubs, more so than any other 2 divisions. It's also why you'd probably see a team like Cambridge spend a bit to try and get out of League 2 and then immediately have a 'season of consolidation' in League 1.

I think that's a very reasonable explanation. I'd also think that over the last decade or two, clubs like Swansea, Hull, Brighton, Cardiff, Bournemouth etc basically towns and cities with a large centre of population have surged up the leagues backed with new stadia and/or large amounts of money. This in turn has knocked a lot of less well off clubs down a peg. The likes of Sheffield United, Doncaster, Barnsley, Millwall and Peterborough are clubs who have huge budgets for League One but, with the exception of the former, haven't a hope in hell of establishing themselves as a competitive Championship club unless their already significant investments are increased further.

This, in turn, affects the other sides in League One. Ten years ago Crewe fans wouldn't expect to see their side in League Two given where we were at the time, now it's only a matter of time before we'll be there again. There's just very little difference between Leagues One and Two and maybe even the top end of the Conference.

Garry Thompson's signed for Wycombe. Superb. Enjoy the fucking shite c***.

Seriously. Grow the f**k up man, you are calling him a c**t?!?! Any particular reason, I must had missed it.

I didn't want him to re-sign with Notts, and a 2 year deal is a year too much. But you could never fault his effort, and was played out of position... wait for it...... for 90% of the season.

Mainly just by you, Cambridge and Portsmouth in fairness. The rest of us seem to be living off League 2 level budgets based on the signings so far...

We didn't have the biggest budget last season and we've released alot of wages this summer. We've still got another 4-5 signings minimum to make.

Having spent £200k (?) on a manager alone I hope you aren't trying to argue that you aren't well above a usual League 2 budget

And we sold Wallace for £275,000. In which he was worth at least double that but thats our own fault.

He certainly wasn't out of position unless you're actually making the case that he's best as a fucking winger. Man alive. He was a decent-is targetman who grabbed a few goals early doors (I won't deny he was brilliant a couple of times even, against Crawley and Barnsley) and then from November onwards was a bit shit, culminating in the final few months where he looked frankly unfit and brainless and missed an ungodly amount of chances.

Oh and he blocked me on Twitter, ergo he's a c***, although I kept sending him videos of his misses so maybe it was warranted.

Not on the level of some of the big spenders but yes I'd agree. Ribs will be earning a very decent wage for himself I'm sure. At rightly so.

He's magic!

Mackail-Smith in as our first silly one of the season. :D

Not completely unrealistic. Looked a shadow of the man he used to be when he was here on loan last season, but then he was lacking a lot of match fitness.

I love the bloke to pieces, and he'll always be a club legend, but on that stint (it's all I have to go by), I wouldn't want him back.

Rumours that we're after Christian Burgess and Jennison Myrie-Williams

Burgess would be an excellent signing.

Where did you hear this? Would welcome both signings.
Myrie-Williams was horrendous when we beat Tranmere at their place. Constantly gave the ball away and looked like he gave up when we scored our second.

Lol, first impressions and all that.

Back to the footy, happy we haven't retained him. Now if we can let Jones go too, the manager has got the exits pretty much bang on.... just need the signings to be impressive now

Are you guys not slightly worried that Moniz might still turn out to be a shite manager? He's only been with you a month or so and has full reins over your transfers having only worked in England once in his career, seems a bit risky but could pay off if he brings in the right foreigners I guess.

His career shows he's not a shite manager (in the right circumstances obviously but that's accurate from most managers) and he doesn't have full control over transfers. We have a new 'panel' which consists of the owners, Branston, Moniz, Kevan and one other although Moniz has the final say. I think they're trying to get a mix between domestic players and foreign players.

We're generally high on 'character' too since the Curle days so I can't see too many players coming in with the 'if you can get them fit/interested...' tags. It's a risk but having Moniz as manager is no bigger risk in my eyes than taking Derry on was or appointing a bloke who failed in his last job.

It's something I've thought of for a while because I'm sad like that but you see the Premiership move towards foreign acquisitions because of how expensive domestic players are and I wonder if someone in L1/L2 could exploit that. We see teams have bidding wars and pay big wages for players who really aren't worth it and you'd assume there's players earning far less in the Dutch 2nd/3rd division who are potentially just as good. You just need a manager to exploit that.

In short, get two mental Brazilians, stick them either side of Spencer and we'll piss this tinpot division.

I want us to sign 2 or 3 young overseas based players, not doing so seems a waste when your manager has managed in other European leagues for so many years. Surely this is his big advantage over other L2 managers, to counteract his obvious weakness.

Also I wouldn't say no to a young Spurs starlet either. Skillz
