Not played much for us but one of the ones Jos deemed ready enough for the odd cameo appearance first half last season. Good opportunity for him.

Not as exciting as Carlisle's news, but we've signed goalkeeper Joe Wollacott on a season long loan from Bristol City. Likely to go straight in as no. 1 if he's any good, our first choice is usually a loanee.
Whats happened to Adam Smith -- Is he still with you ?

Yeah but pre-season hasn't gone too well by the looks of things, I heard the management wasn't happy with his showboating v City in the friendly plus him ignoring instructions from our new (now gone) gk coach. He also then picked up a knock in training, although he was back fit for Oldham. We still put a youngster with zero FL experience in ahead of him on Saturday though and Cooper has talked about needing another keeper a few times. Wouldn't shock me if he's on his way out, Cooper isn't shy of getting rid of players if they don't see eye to eye.

Incidentally this is the 11th keeper we've signed in just over 3 seasons under Coops, and if Wollacott (or Smith) start v Walsall they will be the eighth different keeper to start a league 2 game for us in just over 2 seasons.

Surely Cooper sees that GK situation as a big problem; because it is.

The goal keeper position is a strange one to understand with us. I'm used to us signing a competent proven keeper under contract with the express intention of becoming our number one barring injury or similar. But this is far from the case with Cooper, or is that with our goal keeping coach? We've been signing loan keepers from higher leagues in the EFL , very much with mixed results. Finally I thought our last loan keeper Ward was just the type of player that we would want to sign permanently, and that looked within our means too. But no, and he then signs for Exeter. Ward is very good for this level. However it seemed Smith was a viable option as a permanent signing, but it has gone wrong somewhere with him, and as Chris says it looks like he may be surplus before he,'s even started.
We now look pretty stupid, we're without a proven keeper who's played at this level. It does appear to be careless on the face of it, but maybe Smith is bad boy! Eitherway, it will harm our ambitions for the first half of the season unless this lad from Bristol City is able to tack his chance.

Callum Lang on the radar, apparently.

He's class, honestly I thought Wigan would keep him to bring on late in games and start in cups, or loan him out to League One. If it's even a possibility we should be banging Wigan's door down to bring him back here.

Another of last season's loanees, Jordan Lyden, was spotted at Saturday's friendly. Top player, but injury prone.

And journalist Alan Nixon says we're in talks with David Wheater, but that seems pie-in-the-sky to me.
Well we got Wheater somehow, Lyden funnily enough went to Swindon after an offer from us, but Callum Lang is at the Trophy game tonight, which is brilliant news!

Looks like it’s Hylton. Wellens has said Lang is a no go. Strang3 he’d be allowed to go to L2 again. Must be L1 clubs who’d be interested.

Waiting for Luton to sign a striker to finalise Hylton.

Central midfielder? If so we have a lot of competition for places there now.

Need another (5th?) holding midfielder as expect at least one of McCourt and Harris will be suspended at any given time once we get into the season.

We signed four keepers on loan in the last two seasons, however last season due to an unfortunate injury ending Joe Fryer's season in August*; we ended up with Adam Collin reclaiming the number one shirt and then signed one of the loanees from the season before and have now ended up with two contracted keepers for the first time in a while.

Think it can be a difficult position to fill.

*from what I can gather, Fryer is still to return to football, he's still listed as a Boro U23 player but hasn't played for them at all this season.

We've pushed very hard for Lang I've heard. Asked Joe Royle, who's on the board at Wigan, for a favour and everything.

We got lucky with Dillon Phillips in 15/16 so Gary Johnson thought that a young loanee keeper would be the best way to got in the following two seasons.

In both seasons the keepers brought in were useless and cost us far more points than they saved us. That directly led to Scott Flinders being brought in and he was fantastic. We've not loaned a keeper since.

Quite a few Latics fans saying Lang could simply be at the game to watch his ex teammates. Fair shout. I could be putting 2 and 2 together and getting 5. We'll see ay.

Adam Smith could be a good keeper if he wasn't so much of a dickhead. He tried to be a Bruce Grobelaer but without the ability. Needs to mature a lot and concentrate on his keeping.

Joshua Grant on loan from Chelsea until January. The only thing I know is that he is a centre half.

Hoping for no bids for Ng or Kirk although we really probably need a sale financially as it's been a while since our last. Heard a few rumors of George Cooper coming back on loan, but to be honest I'd rather the likes of Kirk, Ainley, Dale and Powell to Cooper.

Please not Cooper. Most over rated academy player we've ever produced. Was glad to see the back of him.

And he's 20 and played 8 times last season at Yeovil and has played for England under 18s and 20s. I've got to go in town at lunchtime, so shall ask all Chelsea wearing shirts I see what they think of him? Being mostly plastics doubt they would have heard of him.

Most of the clowns in replica football shirts tend to loiter south of the sundial so approach at your own risk mate!

So today is transfer deadline day for Premiership and Championship clubs.

This is meaningful for those of us looking to sign players on loan or permanent deals from these clubs as the players we're targeting may only become available if their club brings someone else in ahead of them, so today is the last day that might happen.

Next few days there may be more transfer activity down here as transfer targets are given the green-light to leave, also the closing of the transfer window will close doors to clubs in the Championship leaving players looking to leave Premiership clubs on loan more likely to go to the lower leagues.

I think he'll likely join Plymouth. I've seen the Posh chairman say they've accepted a loan offer but didn't Ryan Lowe previously pay Cooper out of his own pocket everytime he assisted any of Lowe's goals? Obviously knows about his ability.

Personally, we need another forward option, but it needs to be something down the middle because Porter isn't going to play 90 mins for 50+ games this season. Need a forward and a defender.

Loving the fact Plymouth have signed their 3rd Grant.

This. No coincidence the form picked up when he left 2 seasons ago. No thanks to a return in any sort of fashion. We don't need another winger anyway, we need a striker and a CB, that's it.
