Rumoured on our forum that Joel Logan (20yo winger/forward) is having a trial at Carlisle. Is contracted for another year but, like Hery, would be released if someone offered him a deal he finds suitable.
That's true, he's named as one of the 8 trialists on our website.

Decent enough - lots of goals for the youth team, but never really nailed down a first team place. Tends to sometimes lack awareness of what's going on round him.

Local Journo said Lee Gregory's name has been linked with Notts.

This one must be bullshit

Gregory was excellent at Conference level, didn't make the step up to Championship as well as Gray but then not many do (even Vardy was poor in his first season at that level). I think he could score goals at League Two for sure. He's far more limited than a Vardy or Gray so I could see him being a bit like Matt Tubbs, very good at this level but maybe not quite complete enough to go much higher.

Hmm, very good player but perhaps not CHP standard. I think he could cut in League 1, but perhaps he's looking to drop to this league to get his confidence back? I'll start to consider Notts as serious promotion candidates if they really sign him up.

Josh McQuoid just signed for us on a three year (!) deal.
http://www.lutontown.co.uk/news/art...bourenmouth-striker-josh-mcquoid-2511301.aspx

I know he's been linked to a few teams down here this summer, don't know a huge amount about him but sounds like he will help fulfill our complete lack of forwards who can play wide since Gray left.

He's been garbage for several years now. One explosive 6 week period of goals in L1 for us way back when, and done nothing else in his entire career. He's quite a lazy and greedy player as well. He's a product of our youth so I should stick up for him, but it's hard to.

If you can get him in the mood, he has a turn of pace and quite a good jump on him. Right wing or striker, but probably best as a striker.

I live down in Bournemouth and have seen him a fair few times as a result, never been all that impressed. Been living off half a seasons worth of form he had back a few years ago as far as I can tell.

Not particularly enthused, especially at a 3 year deal.

Hopefully he can rediscover that half seasons worth of form again here at a lower level.

I was going to say that it seemed like a good signing and that most teams would have been pleased with signing McQuoid however looking at his record, it's pretty crap.

Still, dropping down a couple of levels may help him.

Strange one, but it Notts pull that off it would be an excellent signing. I agree he didn't do as well as Gray did - but he did alright in the championship all things considered (part time to full time, the gulf in class, Millwall being crap etc). Scored about 10 didn't he?

Seems to be a player who splits opinions judging by Twitter, although everyone seems to agree he has the ability to do well at this level if his mind is right.

Hopefully Still will work his magic. More or less make or break for the guy in terms of his career now you would think so I'm hopeful he'll be up for it (three years seems a bit risky though, two years with an option would have been perhaps preferable).

At any rate, at least it means we won't have to sit through Mark Cullen filling in out wide when we go one up top anymore so that's a huge bonus. Reliable ITK type on our forum (who accurately predicted the previous two signings well in advance) has said there is a third signing more or less done so hopefully that will be a forward too - we still desperately need a big brutish type to take over the target man role from the aging Benson.

Andy Barcham, Johnny Ertl and James Dunne have all been left at home for our trip to Portugal. Barcham is in talks with AFC Wimbledon, Ertl is just gash and hopefully we'll just pay him off and Dunnes wife is pregnant but would be concerned if we were looking to offload.

When he joined 2 years ago he looked quality, absolutely tore Accrington and Mansfield apart when playing them away in first month or two of the season. Since then he's either been injured, frustrating or decent.

Never seen Josh McQuoid play before so can't comment, however as far as I'm concerned, it's a standard League 2 signing. It's the kind of player L2 clubs sign, i.e. one who's not performing as well as expected and needs to drop down the leagues to hopefully re-discover his best form. L2 signings are divided into 3 camps imo. One is some young inexperienced lad from the non-leagues, second type is the vastly experienced player whose best days are behind him, and finally, this type of signing.

Far too inconsistent for my liking. On his day, he's brilliant but he only seems to have "his day" once a season. Very injury prone too.

And then there are ones like Rakish, who could be at Barcelona if he wasn't so damn humble.

Obviously Vardy is better right now as he is far more advanced in his development than Gray. No-one in their right minds would compare them at their current levels. The comparison between them at the respective stages of their career is absolutely valid though.

Gray has just scored 16 goals (not including the one in the play-offs) and provided 8 assists in his first season stepping up from non-league to Championship level.

In Vardy's first season at Championship level (i.e. the same stage of development as Gray is now), he scored 4 and made 4 assists.

Even Vardy's second season at Championship level, when he truly made the step up, was only marginally more productive than Gray's first season (16 goals and 10 assists).

Throw in the fact that Gray has only just turned 24 a couple of days ago - Vardy was 25/26 in his first Championship season, so Gray has plenty of time on his side (when Vardy was Gray's age now, he was still playing for Halifax...).

We had him on loan. He was shit, but still managed to score 3 in 5 for us.

He might bag some goals for you but there's a lot lacking in his game. Quite a lazy player as well.

Vardy played for Fleetwood, n'est-ce pas? ;-)

One just had a half-decent season in the Premier League, the other won't be there next season. The fact they're even being mentioned in the same sentence us somewhat surprising to me.

Yes. But he was 24 (turned 25 in January) when he signed for Fleetwood. Gray has only just turned 24, which suggests that Gray still has time on his side.

Jervis had a little purple patch for us but there were too many games where he went missing. The sort of striker you'd think might be prolific in non-league.

Happy with the signing of McQuoid - think we may just need another wide player and we're done. Just under 200 games in his career and only 27 goals though, however the majority above L2 level.

I think McQuoid is our wide signing to be honest. He'll do the Gray role, i.e. wide when we play 4-2-3-1, central if we go 4-4-2 or 3-5-2 (with Pelly/Lawless/Drury playing wide right in a 4-4-2). I suspect (or rather, hope) our next signing will be a bigger, more physical striker to compete directly with Benson. That's the obvious glaring weakness in our squad right now for me, especially considering our tendency to go long.
