We've signed Ryan Dickson from Crawley for a nominal fee, very happy with that, he was Crawley's player of the year last year, and it means that we don't have to play Nathan Smith anymore.

That's a good signing, did well at Southampton a few years back IIRC.

Paddy McCourt is one of the three judging by the ITK types on Outlaws. 31 year old left sided winger just released by Brighton. Was on loan at Notts County last season.

Any good County fans?

Crawley have to be contenders to go down, losing their best players and signing Luke Rooney...

Not too thrilled with Balanta, though he's probably worth the risk on such a short contract. Doubt he'll be a first team player.

Balanta was a fairly typical L2 winger when we had him (although to be fair it was 7 years ago now, and he was still a kid, so possibly a different player now).

I.e. good pace, a few tricks, can pull off the odd great goal, crap at tracking back, bit of a luxury player.

Oh and he wears gloves even in Southern climes so he'll probably have to wear a woolly full-body cocoon in the frozen North.

Paddy is one of those players who just isn't consistent enough, I'd imagine he'd be half decent at this level though.

Paddy was either the best player on the pitch or just not even a presence. On his day he could make a team tick but in our relegation battle too many games passed him by

Craig Mackail-Smith reportedly going to Portugal tomorrow with the rest of the squad, according to someone who mentioned last night that Blackpool were after Cullen. I suppose the money for Cullen pays for another £3,500pw wages (not that I'd particularly want it used on one player).

Apparently another signing tomorrow too for us.

Seriously Ken pal, give it a fucking rest. I know this is the rumour thread but you've got to learn to fucking filter them a bit.

Funny that you picked one of the few (only) times Kenny posted a rumour that was bang on to call him out.

CMS is indeed training with us and expected to go to the Portugal pre-season camp:

Did he play out wide for you, or more central?

Michael Nelson, he last of Cambridge, is training with us.

This following confirmation that David Stephens is leaving as we couldn't agree terms with him. Someone will get a good centre half, as long as they can afford the compensation due.

McCourt was wank, brilliant the first two games and then utter shite after that, the ultimate luxury player who you have to adjust your entire formation to. Clearly has issues with his commitment too given his lack of effort and the fact he loves a drink

I'd happily have Stephens, don't think we're in the market defenders though.

As for nelson, he just simply isn't good enough, did pop up with the goal which helped.

Although I agree on Nelson, I do wonder what happened - either to make him so much better for the first month or two after he arrived from Scotland or for him to drop two divisions in terms of ability, application and motivation. The Man U experience seemed to impact on him (and his relationship with the management?) even more than the rest of the team.

In his early matches, he seemed just what was needed to solidify the defence; In his last few matches he was an embarrassment but I guess he knew he was out the door. With the NE connections, I'd assumed he would end up at somewhere like Gateshead but I don't think he'd apply himself or be worth a place at teams like Halifax or Barrow.

He did score a couple of cracking goals. This was the best:

I'm so gutted about Stephens. Classy defender.

Don't want McCourt if he is lazy/has commitment issues. No thanks.

Yes, Chris Lines has signed for the club on a permanent basis.

He is a Gashead, a top midfielder and provides the creative spark our other midfielders don't have. Very, very pleased with how our central midfield is looking now.
Chris Lines really isn't 'creative'. I can't remember him assisting any goals here. He used to just get the ball off the back four and try to ping it to a winger. Not sure he ever made a tackle either. Technically he's good but he never really does much.

Nelson is AWFUL. Terrible attitude and way past it, he'll moan about anything and everything on Twitter aswell - good lucky if you sign him

I don't know the ins and outs at Vale, but he isn't great in struggling sides, as we found out in 2010/11. If you expect him to do the tackling, be creative from a deep position etc. then he won't be as effective, for sure. But we have a midfield that can do the dirty work, a player in Mansell who picks the ball up from deep, and this allows Lines the freedom of the opposition's half really. Put in a number of assists for us in just eight games, I know its Conference football and I don't have exact figures but I think if given the same role next season he'll do well in L2 I reckon.

This. At the end of last season he was very creative for us, setting up and being involved in many of the goals we scored. His set-piece delivery is very good and his surging runs from midfield often end in a goalscoring opportunity being created too.

As Gashead says, he won't be as effective in a team scrapping for points or if his midfield partners play in a similar way, so perhaps he didn't shine for Vale in the same way. I am ruddy glad we have him back permanently now.

We have signed Stephen Arthurworrey on another season-long loan from Fulham, he was a standout player last season and often looked like the only player capable of defending, so delighted he's back.

Luton have signed Magnus Okuonghae from Colchester on a 2 year deal. Happy with that. 3 excellent centre halves at the club now.

I also feel giddy, cos I called it. Yay.

McNulty Wilkinson, Cuthbert and now Okuonghae. Two starters and two back ups - if we're a back four - seems a much stronger unit than with Franks and Lacey (both who we still have don't we?)

An interesting read; Paynter interview on his time at Carlisle, and how he felt about Curle.

Gives me a different perspective on the guy to be honest, very good interview.

Shame no one asked him how he feels being Binghams apprentice.
I'm sure he was unhappy with his rumoured £2500 weekly wage too.
He simply wasn't good enough for our team, and Curle obviously recognised this and (perhaps wrongly at times) tried to make him leave. Understandable considering he was one of our highest earners and had little impact on the pitch.

Plus a back up left back and Still saying Harriman deal not stone dead. Seems like Still has put a lot more experience into the squad to avoid a repeat of last season collapse. Couple of extra attacking options and looking good on paper. Pelly will also hopefully be like a new attacking signing, little has been mentioned of him.

Curle has been a c***, but that interview makes out Billy is blameless. He turned up for preseason under our previous manager overweight, unfit and didn't do anything on the pitch before Curle arrived.

As speculated previously, Lee Angol has rejected a new contract at Luton Town and will leave the club, subject to a fee being agreed with a new club. Best player in Conference South last season, but never played above that level. Obviously got ability, but not impressed with this at all.

I suppose we've got a fee for a player who has cost us £0 in transfer fees and wages which is a bonus.

If Luton ever decide to sign a good striker then I would have them as pretty certain to be top 3.
