Only two players out of however many you have contracted are unhappy to go part-time and take a significant pay cut?

Only what I’ve heard. I think we have about 8 players under contract or something like that. They’ve agreed to it for a season, doesn’t mean they are happy about it.

I guess players who value spending more time with families etc or don’t mind pursuing other professions during their spare time

Odd decision as surely fitness wise Carlisle will be at a disadvantage and it’s hardly easy to get a job for a season for players. Huge put off for prospective signings too.

Be plenty of courier driver jobs about from now on so easily get bits of work. Its been mentioned on our forum whether it would be a feasible option for clubs next season

I’m pretty sure they would all go and find a full-time contract, surely?

I guess we’ll see.

I doubt they’ll be inundated with clubs begging for their services.

But I doubt they will be unable to pick up a full time contract either.....

The club probably know there’s a fair chance that they’ll lose the whole squad maybe barring the first year youth graduates. The players who’ve agreed to go part time are probably just keeping their options open by not burning bridges with the club.

It’s a risk the club obviously (if this turns out to be true and happens) feels is worth taking for a season rather than going into admin.

Just because you run a part time squad doesn't mean you can't have full time players. I'm sure Cheltenham fans will confirm this too.

In our Southern league days we had a mixture of full time and part time players ie Charlie Mcdonald was full time and Joff Vansittart was part time.

Rumour in Crawley's local rag that Bez Lubala is off to Millwall for £500k.

He will be a big loss if he goes but when you score the goals and make the assists he has you must accept that bigger clubs will come calling.

Probably surprisingly, we never had any full-time players until we reached the Football League.

But you're right, having part-time squad doesn't mean you can't have the odd full-time player. Not sure how that would go down in the dressing room though (unless the players were happy to be paid p/t wages).

Being part time can also just be a term for 10 month contracts as well rather than 12 (or 20 rather than 24 - the player(s) wouldn't get paid for the time off in the summer).

Can't see any reason why teams can't be part time in the football league?

I mean Macclesfield were technically amateurs for most of last season. Playing for the love of the game rather then wages. The Corinthian Casuals of league 2.

James Jones set to leave us on a free according to Radio Stoke.

Can't for the life of me see him move to a League One club given his injuries, and he does have Scottish heritage. So he'll either be in League Two or the SPL next season.

Wouldn't surprise me if he rocked up at somewhere like Vale, Tranmere or Walsall at all.

Rumour was when pascal chimbonda played for us in L1, the wages we were paying him were so low they barely covered the cost of travel from his home in Cheshire.

I remember him playing for free at Market Drayton before he signed for you lot and I couldn't believe how he was so willing to desperately play given the clubs he'd been at.

Mysteriously, he went a whole season without playing just before and was a free agent. Whether that was down to injuries, illness or potentially a long suspenion (e.g drugs related) we'll never know.

He's still playing now I think. One of those like Julio Arca who'll play at whatever level he can till his knees give up. Think his season without playing was retirement which he then came out of as we'd have known at the time if he had a ban or a serious illness.

Oddly after leaving us he went and played for some Greek lower league team for a year before returning to the UK. Last I heard he was playing in the northeast, where he has connections as he did some sort of coaching link up with our academy.

There's a good video about where someone from our ticket office tries to get him speaking Cumbrian.

EDIT: He currently plays for Ashton Town, the second biggest football club in Ashton-in-Makerfield (behind Ashton Athletic) and who play in the North West Counties League Division One North in the tenth tier.

We've signed Nicky Cadden, a winger, from Morton.

Sounds like a replacement for Elliott Frear.

Bolton now the club in poll position for Jamie Devitt.

We are apparently still trying but can’t see us being able to compete, particularly with it looking like we’re going part time next season.

Bolton will try and sign Neal Eardley I bet. He used to be a teammate of Evatt and location wise it'll work for him living that way on.

It's gonna be weird playing Carlisle when they're part time. I remember when we played them in the Conf back in 04-05 when they were one of the big full time clubs and we were the plucky part timers. Now it'll be the other way round.

Is there actually any evidence of Carlisle going part-time? I mean other than an overheard conversation.

There doesn't need to be actual evidence for something to be a fact on 1ff.

No, it’s just a rumour that’s done the rounds. I’ve heard a couple of different versions of it so could be bullshit, but apparently once it’s been confirmed with the EFL we’ll make an announcement possibly this week. It’s just for one season to balance the losses from COVID

Is this allowed in the EFL?

The story I heard is that we’re getting special dispensation from EFL to do it for one season due to the loss of income from match day revenue, rather than getting into financial turmoil and going into admin

What’s Carlisle situation before COVID - did they require money to offset losses?

Do Carlisle still run a full academy set-up? Used to take loads of kids from around Furness and West Cumbria. I think our old manager, Darren Edmondson, was academy boss until quite recently.
