Salford building a very good squad. Be tough for Bolton and Bradford to compete with them.

Very surprised Turnbull isn’t in League 1 with us as he was excellent last year. Was one of our highest earners at approaching 4k a week so Peter Lim putting his hand in his pocket again

Lim can afford to take Salford to the Prem if he wants. Not sure why he didn't just buy a Prem or Championship club though.

In fairness last season proved you needed to be physical in this league, none of the sides that went up played any decent football against us.

Swindon were absolutely shocking, but all that mattered was that they won the game and got promoted.

Just seen that Cambridge United have somehow managed to sign our former star midfielder Wes Hoolahan on a one-year contract.

He's never been a player who needed pace to thrive, so he should do a fantastic job at this level with the skill and intelligence he'll offer in the centre of the park (i.e. don't use him on the wing, ever).

George Maris. Cambridge midfielder signed
Good league 2 player. Was in great form and was often compared with Luke Berry and looked destined for a move to a higher league. He very nearly went to Rotherham a couple years ago but he failed his medical so it fell through. Ever since then he hasn't found the level he was at in 2017/18. He's from Sheffield and he's been wanting to go back further north for a while so sort of makes sense.

If he finds his form from a few years ago he's good enough to change an average team into a good one.

Good player for us last season.
I thought Bolton' transfer embargo also said that you were limited to 6 month long loans though? IF that's the case you'll only have him until the end of January?

well they clearly weren’t shocking results wise, but they weren’t good to watch. That’ll be us next season and if it gets us promotion then so be it

My wife is a Norwich fan and I’ve seen him play around 12-15 times. He was simply class for them a few years ago. He had a 100% pass success rate in the play off final v Middlesbrough a few years ago, he’s immense.

As you say, his game was never about pace. If he gets going then he’s going to be amazing.

We won't finish top 3. We might just sneak into playoffs. Not enough goals in our side, especially if Vaughan leaves this summer.

McCall inherited 14 contracted players, 4 of them centre forwards, and 5 who can play centre half. The imbalance he has been left with is crazy.

Happy with our signings of Callum Cooke and Elliot Watt this week, but I think it could be a season of treading mid table waters unfortunately.

We usually have a strong home record, probably down to a sizeable home crowd who can be influential, however playing games in front of no fans or limited attendance for a few months will go against us I think.

My early thoughts for top 3 would be Salford, Port Vale and Exeter

Good luck to George Maris on his move to Mansfield. Ability wise he's a good player at this level and he can probably do a job in L1 as well. But he shares the same trait with a good number of other decent L2 players - inconsistency. He was average at best this season but perhaps that was down to him not being that happy here.

As for Wes Hoolahan, I think I'll refrain from saying anything at this stage.

George Maris was carrying timber and never looked fit last season so I’m happy we got a fee for him. Any idea how much?

Hoolahan is an excellent signing if he stays fit.

Admittedly not seen as much of him the last 2 years but Maris seems to be living off the back of half a good season about 3 seasons back. As Vanni says, there's a very good player in there, but you feel like he has to be in exactly the right system to thrive consistently, no idea what that system is mind you. Would have been OK with him staying, but happy to get some money for him also.

Not happy about spending some (hopefully some) of that on Hoolahan though. Wasn't particularly enthralled when it looked like we would sign him last summer before he fucked us over (not that I blame him mind you) and then spent most of his 37th year injured. We don't have a great record with these sort of signings I don't think, Chadwick aside. Time will tell as always I guess.
