Good points, also Theo Robinson played for us in a top half L1 side so this is a level lower.

We didnt need may players and after a spell where we signed something like 54 players in 2 seasons under Smurf the last two has been a stable rebuild.

Left back we could do with but depends if we are able with the over 21 rule as I believe once the keeper signs we are at full capacity on that, but a loan may be an option, that said if Monty is to play he is going to be a Left back I would think with the 3 wingers we have ahead at the moment.

Montano has done well at times as a left wing-back. But sides will definitely target him and that side of the pitch as a place they can get some joy from. Against sides with a genuine threat on that side perhaps Crooks would be the better choice as he's a natural defender. But I thought Clark was excellent in his second stint for us and if we could get him back we would undoubtedly have one of the best couple of left-backs in the league. As it is I'm currently happy with the side and bench we have below without any more additions. Anything else other than a keeper right now (loan signings) will just be a bonus.

Brown

Gibbons
Smith
Legge
Montano

Joyce
Conlon
Burgess

Worrall
Amoo

Cullen

Bench: Visser, Brisley, Mills, Whitehead, Oyeleke, Robinson, Pope

If Oyeleke can get himself fit and on form then that would be like an extra signing and he would always be in my starting 11. But it's a huge if.

If that's not a potential top 6 side then we're in a very strong league!

It is often forgotten that we achieved all we did last season without arguably our best player the year before in Manny, hope he can get fit!

Only thing is who do you take out that midfield as all three have been excellent... and lets remember our fans were moaning about "burgess!" Turned out alright.

That would be lovely but I'm not sure if we have enough goals in our side still for that. We have a good back line and a top keeper and do expect us to have one of the best defensive records in the league, and we may only need one goal to win games. But for that to happen our wide men Worrall and Amoo would both need to get into or very close to double figures each and I don't see that happening. I think Cullen, Pope and Robinson will all contribute but don't see any of them scoring 20+ goals. Cullen has the finishing ability to get towards that possibly in a good side, but his injury record leaves a lot to be desired.

I can only go off his time at Macc but Askey preferred team players, or ones who made the first XI better than the individuals in it. Rightly or wrongly, I've always viewed Maynard as just a scorer, whereas Robinson is very much a team player.

Wrongly Luke, big time.

Admittedly I was one of them! Not that I shouted it out. I just thought he would be a nothing signing, much like Lloyd.

Oyeleke at his best is the best player at the club but we have really only seen that on a few occasions. But I like how they all offer something different. Joyce and Whitehead are the grafters and the ones to get the ball moving. Burgess is the engine and doesn't stop running. He's not without quality either. Conlon is the one after Oyeleke with the most ability, and now he's getting further forward I can see him scoring a fair few outside the box. Oyeleke the one that can get us up the pitch with powerful runs, if only he can keep himself on a football pitch. Five wonderful options in arguably the most important area of a football pitch.

I believe they can get around it as its a new contract offered originally before the cap.

Maynard new offer was significantly down, there’s not much in his offers.

BTW, There was a link on Stagsnet to the Vale
Forum, I’ve spotted a few posts from you, I knew you had a hard on for Mansfield lol  I’ve also found out Port Vale fans have this weird notion they are this amazingly run club, that’s massive, and therefore must see attraction for all top lower league players, bizarre.

The good news is whatever happens to Maynard, you’ve signed a good player today.

Signing number 15 incoming at Bolton. Most seem to assume it's Bright Amoateng, the young forward we've had in trial that's bagged in every pre-season game so far.

It wasn't Amoateng. Jamie Mascoll (I've no idea either), as cover at LWB.

A signing that will strike fear into most promotion oppositions I'm sure...

Underwhelmed at first, but he may only play 5 games all season. Cheap option and will spend 12 months training and may develop into a decent player in time.
Two more up front and a central midfielder[Adam] then we will be ready to go.

I feel for Bolton. Having to sign so many players in such a short space of time has never really proven to be a success. It will take them months to gel as a team and I think they'll do well to finish top half this season. They have some good players no doubt but I highly doubt they'll have any sort of cohesiveness for a while. But if they get off to a good start then confidence and momentum could overcome that I suppose.

Thats a fair and valid observation from someone who is not up to speed with Bolton. I am the same with Vale.
Evatt got most in a month back about two weeks before everyone else.
He had a blank canvass to go at and we have recruited well, ie Square pegs for square holes.
We have played 4 pre season games and scored 19 against 0......The best result was a 3-0 victory against lge 1 Accrington last Saturday. Confident that this team has gelled and will only get better.
We will see come next may.

I never go by pre season results. From a Vale perspective we've often looked a very good side in pre-season, beating Championship clubs, and then offered up a giant turd when the season got underway. On the other hand I've also seen us have a terrible pre-season and then go on to have a surprisingly good campaign. I suppose you can make a case for positive friendly results breeding confidence which is fair enough. But they can also make you a little vulnerable or complacent when the real thing starts. Regardless, I don't think signing 15 players can ever be seen as ideal for any club going into a season.

For those wondering, Bolton have played Atherton Collieries, Bamber Bridge, Loughborough University and Accrington Stanley.

that’s where they have scored 19 goals and conceded 0.
Very well informed, but you can only beat whats in front of you.......Got Wigan tommorow and Bradford Saturday
I will be here Saturday night and we can discuss this then.

Bolton might turn out good, but those pre-season results mean absolutely fuck all.

Again its a fair point pre season games are all about getting fitness and the shape right. Evatt wont let let them get
complacent. Not heard a more confident manager

It's alright been confident but you can be too confident. League Two isn't a walk in the park and going into games believing you're the dogs bollocks will often see you come unstuck. Believe in yourselves and each other by all means but Bolton have done absolutely nothing yet to warrant too much confidence, and that includes having a positive pre-season so far.

Fuck sake, I wish McCall was more confident. Barring the much needed replacement for Vaughan and a right back, manager-confidence is all that we’re lacking.

Again i dont think Evatt thinks its going to be a walk over but he expects each player to leave everything on the park. And as supporters that is all we can ask. This is just a football forum and we all have our own views.
Good to exchange a good debate with a fair thinking vale fan

A big loss for Cheltenham today as Ryan Broom has signed for Peterborough. Always really liked him, seemed a quality player

Yeah, there's no master plan needed in League Two to do well. Be organised, work hard and don't take any side for granted regardless of form or where they are in the league. If you can do that and you have a bit of quality up front and pace on the flanks, you'll be up there.

Liam Gordon and Gethin Jones are our two wing backs plenty of pace in them both and a front free of Crawford,Delfouneso and Doyle as it Stands

Gethin Jones isn’t a particularly pacy wing back.

Yeah, think he will do well at Peterborough too. I imagine they got a good fee.

No sloutch, good crosser of the ball and comfortable on the ball.
Did you rate him?

He was absolutely bang average at RWB for a team chasing automatic promotion. He replaced Haydn White who got injured and is still a available btw, I imagine he’s more sturdy at RB because he didn’t really seem to have much pace or crossing to be in a more attacking role.

He’s not a bad signing at this level but there’s several better in other teams.

Rate Gethin Jones as a right back, but he certainly isn’t pacy. Not slow, but not what I’d describe as quick.
