If he’s ‘wanting to sign’ he will do, wherever he ends up.

there’s more interest outside Mansfield and Vale, Port Vale biggest advantage is location in this instance.

Bradford have shown interest but able to financially match PV and Mansfield.

With the cap limitations now there’s more L2 clubs that can match the offers than not, if they wanted to.

I think from our POV we need to say you’ve got until 5pm Monday or we are going elsewhere or we risk losing one of the other targets we’ve got (probably Hope). We’ve offered location and a very good deal at a club that’s progressing and great to be at currently. If he wants a few hundred quid more then fair enough but probably one where we can get better value for money elsewhere at the moment with the cap and amount of players jobless at the minute with the pandemic.

Mansfield is a good choice, excellent facilities, great owners, and hopefully and finally a good manager, and after last season shocking effort there’s only one direction we can go.

Vale is a good place to be aswell at the moment of course, but don’t go around thinking players would only pick elsewhere due to a bit extra money, we are all lower league rubbish at the end of the day :bg:

Anyway... Can’t see us genuinely being in for Maynard, we’ve more than enough over the hill, wrong side of thirty, past it forwards as it is. McCall has already stated we’re in for strikers in the leagues above, pace is what we’re desperate for.

Maynard isn’t past it, not for this level anyway - Last two seasons he’s been brilliant.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Maynard rocks up at our place. Wellens wanted him last season before Doyle. Based on nothing but my gut feeling!

I’ll be taking a excess amount of quaaludes if we drop down to the likes of Chesterfield and Notts County! Christ I’ll take them if we finish below Grimsby.
Definitely should happen considering pretty much our entire midfield is academy graduates and all but one of our signings are playing for £50 per week. But it should have happened last season as well, so you never know...

The teaser looks like Theo Robinson so maybe Osadebe (who I would be happy with)

I know it was some time ago and different manager and way of playing etc but wasn’t Robinson really shit last time he was at Vale? Can’t imagine it would be Osadebe as he’s a midfielder.

I do agree it’s time to move on from Maynard regardless though.

Holloway has all but said that our business won't be completed by the time we kickoff on September 12th, but rather we'll be looking for the right players up until the deadline. He's starting to sound less and less confident with every interview. Must be really dawning on him what a massive task he has to get us competitive this season. We're probably the most wild card of all the squads in the division this division. No idea how we're going to do.

Robinson was a bit hit and miss here at Lincoln, as Luke said he looked really good in the FA cup games but couldn’t replicate that form regularly in the league. He does like getting caught offside a lot too!

Robinson looked good for Colchester when I saw him and also whenever I saw him in clips, etc. Would have had him here, but I'd hazard a guess that his wage demands were too high for us following his trial.

Robinson's goals to minutes ratio last year was excellent, he's a decent signing. Would have been very pleased to see him stay with us permanently.

We had him in League One but struggled a bit, although did bag a few.

He has around a 1 in 2 goal rate over his last 44 games though and at this level so should be good for what we need. Assume we have withdrawn the Maynard offer but apparently Mansfield have offered a far much higher wage despite our's being a sizeable offer.

Yeah, the 1 in 2 thing was picked up on our forum too. Could be a very canny signing, I think.

How can they, or anyone else, offer a substantial contract in these days of the salary cap?
