we've still got 6 triallists;-
Jack Hindle - he has been with us for the last 2 seasons and was offered the chance to earn a new one at pre-season - he's scored 3 in 3 - so will probably get one.
Josh Lillis - might or might not have signed already - but nothing confirmed officially.
Neil Danns, Ash Smith Brown and Ollie Younger have all been here all pre-season and we're expecting decisions on them all this week.
Kgosi Ntlhe has been here this week and a decision will probably be made on him after our friendly at Southport on Saturday.
We've also been linked with loan deals for Joe Nuttall (Blackpool) and a youngster Barry Baggley from Fleetwood.

Well in that case, I can’t see the fee being a problem at all.
Any players you sign now will not be match fit for the start of the season, certainly not by the time we meet next Saturday in Carabao cup....Bolton home 21/20 buying money kerching

it depends whether they have been on trial with anyone else - if they have they'll be as fit as most other players are at present - they'll probably not know the teams tactics/style as well as the other players though.

I would like to think that any player signed at this point would be relatively fit - perhaps not match-fit - but physically fit. Thankfully, the season doesn’t start and end with the game next Saturday.

I see the game against you nothing more than another pre-season fixture. Gone are the days where progressing in cup competitions benefited the coffers for the upcoming transfer window. I’d much rather focus on the league, with what is a much smaller squad.

You may get a half out of any new player. In fact i would expect Mc Call to use this game as a warm up game.
Evatt will want a reaction first when we play Crewe tommorow then again in the cup match against Bradford,
Any player not on his mindset wont be around long

But you’ll still have to pay them for the duration of their contract.

These are the younger players on the edge of squad. The likes of Doyle,Crawford, Comley and Sarcevic are winners and Evatt will not have a problem with these. We have about a dozen players 22 and under and not all will make it.
I expect 4/5 to be loaned out to play Saturdays and return to train with the first team during the week. Moneyball all wont make it

We look like lining up:

___________________Norman______________________
Tanner____Hayden______McDonald___Anderton
_________Devine_____Guy______Dickenson_______
_________Patrick____Kayode______Reilly_________

But it's hard to tell really, we're a bit short of experience in centre-back and centre-midfield positions. I think if we sign Dean Furman it will be with an eye to him starting, don't know if we're looking at defenders though. McDonald and Anderton are currently our only defenders over the age of 23.

Up front it's harder to predict who will start, we have a few options and unless we sign more midfielders I'm guessing 4-3-3 is the plan. I feel Kayode is likely to go into the season as our main attacking threat, but then out of Gavin Reilly, Omari Patrick, Lewis Alessandra and Gimi Toure any of them could really come through pre-season on top. Gonna go with Patrick to continue playing where he ended last season and Reilly to get the nod purely on the basis that he has more pedigree and has been given the number 10 shirt.
That will not be the lineup. There’s no way Dickenson is starting that position. If we play 4-3-3 he’ll play left in the front 3, or if 4-4-2 he’ll play left midfield in the 4.

Im basing this off where Beech has played him so far in friendlies.

So with our summer business just about done and dusted, this is likely to be how we line up for the new season with everyone fit and available.

Brown

Gibbons
Smith
Legge
Montano

Joyce
Burgess
Conlon

Worrall
Amoo

Robinson/Cullen

Askey likes three in midfield so can't see us playing a different formation too often unless we are chasing a game and throw two up top. Fitzpatrick might get the nod over Montano for the left-back spot depending on the opposition, as Montano tends to leave his position a lot being a natural winger and teams will definitely target him and that side of the pitch. It's a toss up between Robinson and Cullen.

Overall I think we have a good, solid side and one that should be capable of a top 6 finish. You need a bit of luck along the way of course. We won't be a free scoring side, but we will be tough to beat and I expect us to go on to have one of the better defensive records in the league. Worrall, Amoo and Robinson or Cullen should be one of the better attacks in L2, but our midfield isn't the most creative and is more workmanlike and "busy" whoever we play there. It will be nice to have players like Cullen, Rodney and Pope on the bench, players who can come on and make a real impact.

I know Burgess has done well for you but Danny Whitehead is a much better player, which I guess isn't the worst news to ever be told.

With injuries included, we will probably line up like this against Port Vale.

Rory Watson

Jai Rowe
Tyler Cordner
Jacob Bedeau
Frank Vincent

Ryan Colclough
Alex Gilliead
Lewis Spence
Abo Eisa

Aaron Jarvis
Kelsey Mooney

Wow that team is just horrendous, we are already missing probably four starters but it really isn't looking good for us even with those starters fit.

We’re announcing a signing this evening. Don’t think it’s Dean Furman, although I do expect him to sign this week or next.

Some quality players still without a club.....Marcus Maddison and Chris Martin to name two.....Can you attract them and maybe you will have to pay good money, but the closer to the start of the season the better chance of getting them.....The downside they wont be match fit
Marcus Maddison will think he will be messi’s replacement if he does leave Barcelona.
If ever there was a player and person who thinks above his station then has to be him.

Complete And utter knob.

Don’t see many youngsters with the name Barry nowadays.

Just before lockdown Burgess was right up there as one of our most effective players. Been a revelation since signing in all honesty.

Just the way Askey operates is Burgess will get the first throw of the dice anyway as you’ll know yourselves he doesn’t change anything if he can help it.

Maybe Mellish in that left midfield spot then with Dickenson where I put Reilly. I'm basing 4-3-3 off the fact I struggled to work out how we might set up 4-4-2

Isn't Whitehead just a player with a lot of energy though? I completely wrote Burgess off as a nothing signing but he was the biggest surprise of the season for us after Jake Taylor. Runs all day but also isn't without a bit of quality.

Coule be Hope Akpan, Jermaine Anderson, Adam Henley, Shay McCartan or Chris Taylor. It’s bound to be one of them.

Not a bad problem to have this, Burgess though was outstanding last season, when we signed him everyone was raging didn’t get a look in until the Macc Leasing game in September and was touted for going out on loan when he scored a stunner then hasn’t looked back, scored a few goals, sure he got one on his league start after that game at Orient.

One of those where we rushed to an unfair judgement.

Looks like Oyeleke isn’t going to be fit so may see Whitehead compete with Conlon although he was pushed further forward last season and was excellent.

We finished 20th twice largely down to ineffective midfields with no legs but Askey completely overhauled it and that’s probably the main reason we are so improved.

I'm a big fan of Conlon. I think we are very fortunate to have him and Burgess as they're both at a good age with plenty of improvement left in them. I can't see Oyeleke suddenly not becoming injury hit so can only see him being a bit part player for however long he has left with is unfortunately. But hopefully Whitehead can be a player and then we can always play Worrall in the middle too if need be - I wouldn't be surprised if that wasn't his best position actually. Perhaps in a midfield three with him further forward than the other two.

Nah, alround better player in my opinion. Better passer, better tackler, scores more, just as good an engine.

We did have Burgess over 2 years ago now so would expect him to have improved but if things were so crazy since coming up I'd have seen DW as the successor to Danny Whitaker in the middle of the park

We're still being linked with McCartan, but it looks like we'll have to farm out one or two first - in particular Tav Campbell.

McCartan would be a steady signing for anyone at this level, not necessarily a starter for the better clubs though, McCall denied interest in Matty Blair.

Blair's suffered an injury - Duff was more open about signing him on Tuesday night though. Ultimately, we need to know how much of the Broom sale money will be going back into the player budget.

We are at least two short up front. Almost certain one will be the trialist who has been with us a month.
That will leave us with one more to come in. Does he take a gamble by bringing some one inexperianced but young like Raul Sotinou. Or does he try and sign a Maynard type of player. Not having a u23 team this season is starting to hit recruitment as i think he needs to loan three or four out before he can bring these in.
