That will leave us with one more to come in. Does he take a gamble by bringing some one inexperianced but young like Raul Sotinou

Is that you mangling an attempt at Ruel Sotiriou? You have zero chance of getting him btw.

Where’s Maynard going to turn up tomorrow then?

hope it’s going to be done soon, been a draw out thing as it is.
Why tomorrow? I’ve still got a sneaky suspicion he’ll turn up here - despite Wellens saying he’s not interested cos he knocked us back last year. Not sure if he’s up to L1, though.

He is out of contract, the right age and we have recruited about six or seven from London clubs so fits a Evatt/Phoenix moneyball signing who ticks all the right boxes.....Not a clue if we are after him but the pool of players like this available is getting smaller.

His options are running out. Vale wanted him and correctly would not be part of a auction and turned elsewhere.
I dont know if he as burned his bridges at Mansfield but they have gone down the same route as Vale.
Bradford would seem the ideal club for him,but Mc Call does not seem to be in a rush to sign him.
Salford and Bolton have both signed there no 1 target up front. Tranmere have Vaughan . Exeter could be a option as they are proberbly only a Maynard short of promotion. Then that leaves lge 1. Only Swindon have shown any interest so you may be right Dan

Didn't sotiriou just sign a new contract with Orient the other week?

Last time i looked Marcus Maddison was released by peterborough not wanted by Hull
Theres plenty of players that could be playing in lge 1 this year yet are happy to drop down
Hull couldn't afford him. Or rather, their owners wouldn't pay for him. No chance Maddison will be in L2. Looks like Derby want him.

Fair enough i was stating that the was quality players to be had. I had seen a interview with him about a month back where he was stating it was frustrating sitting by the phone waiting for offers.
The are players who could have played in lge 1 or even the championship who have dropped down to lge2
Henderson and Doyle are examples.

How can someone with such an extensive knowledge of lower league football not know that Northern Ireland haven't played in a World Cup for absolutely ages? You need to delete some of those Lincoln City 2009 to 2015ish memories and make room for some more useful stuff!
Haha, unfortunately the worse it was the more I remember it!

Just hate it when i put something on here and instead of coming back at me with another point of view i get called a dick head........Quite a few keyboard warriors on here
Hang on, did you think Posh Harry was calling you a knob? I'm 99% certain he was calling Marcus Maddison a knob, as he always seemed to wind up us Grimsby fans for Gateshead when we were down in the Conference.

Haha remember when Gateshead really wanted to be our rivals, Town fans?

Did they do you over though? As a kid I won a few cup finals at Alfreton Impact Arena, so it was a bit embarrassing to see them turn us over!

As i said, according to Wellens we’re not interested because he knocked us back last season when we wanted to sign him.

Mind you, Wellens does has form for saying one thing and then doing the opposite.

They beat us in the fucking playoffs mate! Second of our four back to back playoff seasons. 1-1 first leg at Blundell Park. Their keeper had a blinder. Then at their place Craig Baxter dived after a Scott Neilson challenge. Neilson won the ball, didn't even touch Baxter but the ref bought it and sent Neilson off. They were 1-0 up. This is was prime Scott Neilson time too, when he was one of the best wingers in the division. We equalised and held them off until about 80mins and fucking Sam Hatton got sent off for a silly tackle on a second yellow I think it was. Then they scored twice in the last 10.

BUT the tale doesn't end there...

The next season on the first international break weekend, Gateshead put out a Tweet saying something like "Newcastle and Sunderland season ticket holders, come to our rubbish althletics stadium devoid of any atmosphere whatsoever and get in free to WATCH US BEAT GRIMSBY". We beat them 6-1. Craig Baxter own goal 6 minutes in. Scotty Neilson absolutely running the show too and grabbing a brace.

Our record against Alfreton was fucking ridiculous incidentally. 31 goals scored in 8 games. That single draw is kind of annoying admittedly...

It's weird how there are just certain teams you do well or not against. We always struggled against Woking and in the early days, Alfreton as well.

On the flip side, after losing in one of our first games in NL against Braintree, we then won 10 on the spin against them, averaging 3 goals a game. Didn't matter what form or where both sides were in the league, we just comfortably beat them all the time.

Alfreton under Heath were a right bastard to play against though, weren't they? With Bradley, Clayton, Wood, Tomlinson.

Think Furman is a much needed signing for us. Our midfield was looking very young, he’ll add that bit of experience to that position.

I reckon that’ll be it for our business this summer. Most of our squad is already out injured, but we should be able to put out a starting 11.

Yeah, we used to struggle against Braintree. They spanked us 5-0 in Hurst's (and Scott's) first full season in the second game. Then the season we went up it took us about 325 minutes in total all season before we eventually scored past them in the playoff semi second leg.

But we never got that difficult Alfreton treatment really, it sounds very much like they were our version of your Braintree.

I feel like we could do with an experienced centre-back too. We've only got young-players (admittedly Hayden shows maturity beyond his years) and Ronald McDonald in that position.

We have eight although 4 are currently injured and two may go out on loan......Weakest part of our team imho

I think he’s a top signing for you. Granted, I haven’t seen him play for nigh on 10 years, but his quality was clear to see.

Nice of Liverpool to lend us their training facilities for the announcement, our previous announcements were getting a bit repetitive.
Still using the same cardboard cut out of the manager with his arms folded though.....
