We’ll see how it goes but defensive midfielder was a big gap in the squad that needed filling. There’s another 12 or so places to fill so will see how it plays out.

Obviously Walsall fans are no fans of DC (which I understand) but some of the criticism of his recruitment comes across a little unfair just in my opinion. The two players your owner sold from under him in January were ones he brought to the club so it’s not as though he hasn’t had some success in that area.
Surprised you didn’t go for Anthony Grant. I’d sign him straight up again if I were McGreal.

I certainly wouldn’t have been opposed to that. My suspicion is the club in terms of recruitment policy are focusing more on getting younger throughout the squad as we had one of the oldest in the league last season so that might have put them off in place of someone they could potentially sell on in future.

With McGreal wouldn’t surprise me by the way if you came in for Theo Robinson. He certainly got the best out of him and it’s unfortunately just not worked for him here.

Sheehan is a good signing BUT he has a major weakness which is giving the ball away with a sloppy pass in a deep position. All the attention in the PO final was on O'Sullivan's dive fooling the ref, but the move started when Sheehan gifted Morecambe possession in our half. I would play him further forward than we usually did.

Let's be fair I think we could do a lot worse than have Theo Robinson up front for us next season. Could him and Pork Pie Pele work as a two?
I hope we’d be fishing in a better pond than that.

Yeah we've been through that few years ago with the Ownership Fiasco where the so called owner didnt have a single penny to his name, i hope swindon pulls through but it does look like free agents and cheap deals will be your only way

The non Oldham fans seem very positive on Garrity but the Oldham fans don’t make for good reading!

Let’s hope Flickers and DCs matrix thing is working.

That said good competition in midfield with Conlon and Taylor. They must like him to pay a fee for him. Possibly one of those work in progress ones DC reckons he can improve.

I’d be alright with Farman going. He’s a good keeper and his distribution is superb for this level, but from what I’ve seen of Magnus Norman, he’s good enough and he’s younger.

Anyway I thought barrow already had a good keeper, or is he going?

Supposedly off to Bolton but I don't think he's a League One keeper.

we've released our other 2 keepers* though - so would need another whatever.

*not sure if Lillis is going to stay as GK Coach yet

Well Farman won’t be joining Barrow to be a number 2. So can only see him signing if your number 1 does join Bolton or whoever.

Been told that James Brophy has agreed to join Cambridge.

Also told that Conor Wilkinson has had offers to play in Portugal and Azerbaijan.

Radio Cumbria now reporting that Barrow are getting Zanzala.

That one I’d be disappointed with, but it shouldn’t be surprising as we have no money and I’ve said this before, we’ll be most players 92nd choice of league clubs to play for.

Brad Barry is RB, RWB and RM.
We've offered him a new deal, but is considering his options;- his Mrs has recently had their 1st (i think) kid - so he may wish to move closer to home which i'm guessing is Chesterfield area.

I know that we have spoken to a very good young rb released by a neighbour. The problem is, he will be sought after as he has championship experience.

The lad from Huddersfield?

I can see us going back in for Bryce Hossanah, tbh.

Duhaney. Not sure Leeds will like how we looked after Hosannah though it looks as they we will have better procedures in place.

Luke Hannant back to Port Vale are the rumours this end. Offered a contract but likely it was only a year.

First time have seen his name mentioned but then again neither of the players we have brought in were mentioned once so who knows.

I’d rather we didn’t bring him back. Firstly I just don’t see what spot he can fill and his time at Vale was mostly defined by a lot of running around but producing almost nothing.

Surely not? As you say, he’ll have interest from Champ clubs, if not L1.

Some are suggesting Oscar Threlkeld is a done deal.

Yes I remember all the Vale fans saying this but I have to be honest I think he is a good squad player in league two. Gets you up the pitch with his dribbles, wins lots of cheap free kicks and pens. Chipped in with goals and assists too.

not really. I wanted to like him but he could never nail down a starting place really.

the best benefit of doubt write up i could give him is that we never played a sytem which benefitted him and so he was fighting for scraps against players who were a bit shit but better suited to a lone striker role.

he has a decent goalscoring record but i think he's probably one you need to give good service to, which we never did.

niggly injuries mount up and he always seemed to be carrying too much weight - probably due to the lack of minutes over the last few years.

it wouldn't completely surprise me if he signed in L2 and did an ok job for someone who plays to his strengths but i wouldn't be putting money on it.

If he could ever stay fit he could be. In his first season with us had a good spell prior to lockdown more so in home games though. Needs someone who can hold it up for him though as that side of the game he is no good at. Would say he’s more a useful option to have but truthfully he wasn’t one I was particularly disappointed or surprised we let go.

hannant back to vale would be very strange. I'm not sure where he fits in really.

I always quite liked him really, he was a trier in a fucking shit team initially but i wasn't overly sad that he left, especially given the rumours about him causing trouble behind the scenes -although looking back i do wonder if Askey struggled with that side as it seems to have cropped up a few whilst he was vale.

maybe coming in as back up for amoo/worrall and i know clarke likes a player who can do a job in a few positions. i'm not convinced.
