Weird how some clubs seem to get lucky with ownership. Wigan, Blackpool, Blackburn (I know they’ve all had issues) all seem to punch above their weight given the crowds they get. I would definitely add MK to the list. Poxy crowds but always seem to be guaranteed to be ‘up and around’ it in league 2 and of course did well in League 1 for quite a while. Now they’ve got owners with even deeper pockets who are trying to pick off our best players despite us being, on the face of it, a bigger club.

Our owners are fantastic, but as a fan the insistence on us being sustainable with the off the pitch stuff is frustrating sometimes. And that’s even if DC doesn’t go to MK. If he does he’ll be even harder to replace than Langstaff and we haven’t even replaced him yet!

I dont think Wigan or Blackpool fans would overly agree in the past but football can be like that, look at say Bournemouth or Swansea or Hull getting 3-5000 rattling around League Two and where they've been in recent years, Brentford a present example of that.

I didn’t choose the best examples to be fair, forgot about the prem…

It took us four years to get out the National league so our owners are both patient and strategic but not without money themselves.
I hope Crowley stays but if Palmer and Robertson come back very soon and play to form and Hinchy and Grant fulfil their promise we'll change from a tippy tappy good to watch but physically a bit lightweight team into a more physically robust, taller and likely more pacey team.
Defence is more powerful than last season Jatta is big, strong and fast and players like Graham and Tsaroulla are also more physically powerful than Nemane and the inadequate Will Randall.
We were bullied at times last season, Stockport, Wrexham and Stags all ran over us and it looks like we're going to try to match them this season.
I'd also be amazed if we don't have a couple more coming in whether Crowley goes or not.

Can’t understand what ever puts off prospective new owners for us!

It’s bollocks I reckon. Twitter/Facebook shite. It’s a theme with our ownership. Let it be known we’re after players to get the fans excited then announce we offered a great deal but couldn’t compete . . . Blah, blah, blah.

We’ve had it with Kemp, Jack Payne etc.

Us and Gillingham are the sleeping giants in English soccer.

I do not take kindly to be being linked in any way with your awful football club.
Fine. We are the sleeping giant of English soccer and you have the potential to be the biggest club in Kent :lac:

Crowley is a top player. Absolute box office on his day and the player in our team who is most capable of doing something from nothing. He is out of contract in the summer so my guess is you've offered 5 figures

I do worry that if he isn't effectively replaced we will have a season of struggle. Injury crisis already with many of our players with a history of injuries. Jury is still out on Maynard who I'm not convinced by

We were supposedly waiting for other transfers to be sanctioned a week ago but none have materialised. Could be a long season

They paid six figures plus Grant for Nemane who was also out of contract next summer, and Crowley is a far better player. Seem to be absolutely throwing money around though, so can easily see them offering something we can’t refuse.

Gills are the biggest club in Kent, and have been since Greater London was invented in 1965. Before then, it was Charlton; before Charlton were Woolwich Arsenal; before the Gunners were Royal Engineers (based in Chatham).

Rumour of Matt Jay from Colchester. Seems to have gone downhill since leaving Exeter.
Yeah he seems to have struggled to settle at Colchester.

If you play a system that fits him i.e. using a No.10 just off the main striker then he should do very well. He scored 36 goals in two seasons for us playing in that role, so he really should be a class signing if you get the best out of him

Notts cannot be selling to a direct rival regardless. If it’s a league 1 club comes in for him fair enough, but got to stay strong on this MK bid. Would say a lot about your ambition (lack of) if you sell to MK, silly money or not

It feels like that was a statement to appease people, it’s hard to see what’s gone on with our recruitment. I remember Montague saying on a podcast that last January they narrowly missed out on a couple of CBs they really wanted and had to bring in Jaden Warner on loan - it feels like that sort of thing.

I don’t think we’ve done anything egregious this summer - sorted out the keeper and defence early, got decent fees relatively speaking for Langstaff and Nemane, so people on Twitter/X up in arms are just being very silly and weird but…it does feel like the season’s fizzling out a bit before it’s really started unless we get an unexpected boost

Agree but with a small but important amendment.

Our owners are clearly ambitious and have a super computer to identify talent and profit.
