Luke Joyce set to sign for us after rejecting a new deal with Carlisle according to a BBC Cumbria tweet.

Not bothered by this one. I would have released him anyway. Decent player but we need a bit of attacking threat and creativity added to the midfield imo.

I would say with how things are beginning to look for next season we need to try and keep anyone we can who could be described as a 'decent player' especially since we've no idea who will be managing us as there's no expectation that the replacements for such players will be anywhere near as decent.

With Hussey it depends on what sort of full back you want. If you need a full back that can throw in some decent crosses but is hopeless defending, then he's your man.

Hopeless at defending full backs? Every single one we've had since David Wright left us in 2003 has been hopeless at defending bar John Brayford. The crossing clearly appeals to Artell though. Still, he'd be an improvement on Bakayogo and better than Cranston for sure.

Hussey is more than worth it for his set pieces alone.

Well we have tried to keep him, how hard we’ve tried I don’t know. But it’s not as big a loss as Adams. We still have Jones who is better than Joyce imo, as well as Devitt and Etuhu who are both better going forward. Liddle can fill in the defensive mid role if Jones is ever out. It will at least give the new manager a bit of room to put his own stamp on the team. A younger energetic midfielder who gets forward more would give the midfield more balance.

We seem to have had that problem too, think it is a modern thing. All our full backs these days seem to be brought in for their attacking ability rather than defensive. John White was always the perfect full back but got a nosebleed past the halfway line, so he was let go. Lewis Kinsella was a pretty decent defensive left back over the past couple of seasons but, again, limited going forward so shipped out (now Aldershot fans love him).

I'd quite like my defenders to be primarily focused on defending to be honest.

That's been the issue with us too. The solution is using centre backs at full back

Not really bothered about Joyce leaving, I agree with HG saying he’d have released him. Solid midfielder for this level but doesn’t offer much going forward. The worrying thing is the fact our contract offers have been quickly rejected, the money on offer and lack of manager the main reasons.

Double signing to be announced at 5PM! (Scrap that was an assumption on time) shortly... Assume its Legge and Joyce.

It has all gone very quiet from us, you would think that the club had pretty much gone into hibernation immediately after the Grimsby game...other than publishing the retained list. I was expecting a signing or two by now.

Our fullback list has been revealed. Chris Hussey, David Fitzpatrick and Jordan Cranston.

Hussey is arguably the best of the three. Never seen Fitzpatrick play so Macc fans what's he like? Hope to God we don't sign Cranston though. I remember him looking suspect defensively against Wrexham at Conference level which fills me with no confidence at all.

Either Hussey or Fitzpatrick would be decent signings, so I'm guessing we will sign Cranston.

Don't knock Cranko, if he can find the form he had before his injury then he can be a very good player. He really proved his doubters wrong between July and November but he looked back to his awful self on his return - but coming back from a torn hamstring is no mean feat in fairness.

We've also been linked with Hussey and have been linked with him a couple of times before.

Another player we've been linked with is Ryan Broom who's been released by Bristol Rovers.

In actual signing news - we've confirmed the signing of Johnny Mullins today from Luton. Sounds exactly like what we need and a good start to Johnson's rebuild.

Seen us linked with Swindon's Tom Smith on twitter. Was released a couple of weeks ago I believe.

The Joyce to Vale thing seems to have gone quiet. I mean from yesterday when the BBC tweeted it was confirmed he was leaving, they then deleted that tweet and today the local media simply understands that Joyce (along with Ellis) has attracted interest of other clubs and might be set to reject his contract offer. I'm sure he's still leaving but maybe Vale aren't guaranteed to be his destination.

We are set to announce two signings today and one is said to be Joyce according to Radio Sjoke along with a player who's back in the EFL from Non League (so likely Daniels) so done deals yesterday announced by our media man... although waiting to hear when the official unveiling is of whoever these two are.

Interestingly the Crewe fans Miller to Vale rumour seems to have grown legs today with our end now reporting these.

We seem to have a bit of a fight on our hands to keep andy cook. Salford have apparently offered him a 25k singing on fee and 2.5k a week.

If any of our out of contract players attract interest elsewhere they’ll be off.

Who in their right mind is going to choose a contract at a club with no manager over a club that has a manager in place that clearly wants the player.

If that happens then you have to question his ambition. What is he 27/28 now? And he’s still yet to play in the football league (unless he made the odd sub appearance for us, can’t remember) and now he’s won promotion he’s thinking of actually staying non league, at his age.

That's the issue at this level though isn't it. Ambition probably goes out the window a bit when you're offered a deal that (if it's a one-year deal, without performance bonuses etc.) could be worth £150,000+

Yeah, there’s two sides to it. You mention his age, but that’s a reason why he would take it. He’s not the sharpest tool in the box judging by his interviews so making as much money he can from football is probably wise.

It may be, but the media in Stoke could also just be repeating the rumour that started with the deleted tweet and nobody else in the Cumbrian media has repeated it. As HG says the fact there is interest in him from elsewhere means he'll almost certainly be off, but whether the suggestion that Vale is his destination is based on anything it anyone's guess.

I wouldn’t say Joyce adds legs. He has 2 but he’s not blisteringly quick or anything like. He works hard, he’s a solid 7/10 every week. He was exactly what we needed after nearly going down, solid and reliable.

Good luck to him but him and jones together in our midfield didn’t offer enough going forward, and Jones is the better of the 2 imo, that’s why I wanted him released.

Looks like Shaun Miller has signed for us, going off the latest video on the clubs Facebook page.

He adds legs to a central midfield pairing that for most of the past season has had a combined age of 70!

We have just appointed someone called Richard Hughes as our head of recruitment...so, hopefully news of a player or two in the not too distant future.
