When did we last have some really decent fullbacks? We've had some real stinkers over the last few years: Chickensen, Threlkeld, Mellor...We deserve some luck! :(

Darby and Meredith the last pair of good consistent full backs. McMahon was also decent too when he came in for Darbs

Don’t remind me:eek:

We seem to have it as a low priority position when there shouldn’t be such a thing.

I've just remembered Paul Caddis. He was probably our last decent fullback, although I think we had him for less than a season?

Agreed. Having either of Darbs or Meredith would massively improve our current team.

I can’t see anything but a loss, fully expect quite a few changes to give fringe players a run out
I don't know why, we're currently four players or so from being half decent - like most EFL teams, the season has started too early in terms of transfer business, and had a handful of attacking players out at the weekend.

How have Paudie and Vernam done so far?

Vernam got injured in the final pre-season friendly but is due back in training this week (dead leg). O'Connor looked off it in the first half against Exeter (as with the rest of the side), improved in the second and was then Man of the Match at Portsmouth at the weekend.

Got the gas at home. Had an odd start. Seems FGR thrashed them and then they thrashed Burton. We're the third Southern League side on the trot they've played.

Only hope we have is if it follows the first two!

Can't see it.

We are missing them both already in my opinion.

Paudie is a real warrior, but can get wound up a bit too easy, still wish he was ours.

Vernam is very direct and fast, tends to pick up injuries quite a bit though

So the big question tomorrow is can plucky Leyton Orient cause a major shock by knocking League 1 giants Forest Green Rovers out of the League Cup*?

I kind of doubt it, we will make a lot of changes I’d have thought so will lose some fluency through that, plus not really our sort of game. We are built to win games when out of possession through high pressing and aggression and through quick direct breaks. I think you’ll force us to make more of the running which won’t suit us.

I’d still hope we would win obviously but I don’t see a hammering

Apparently this will be our 8th consecutive first round defeat.

Blackpool away for us and we've never won or scored away to Blackpool, bur we;ve never lost or conceded either:-
1925 FA Cup drew 0-0 (lost the replay at home) and 2020 drew 0-0 (lost on pens) - there should be around 1000 Barrow fans there.

We’ve put out a right mish mash of a side. If Walsall are at anywhere near full strength, it’s yet another early exit. Some of our subs Ive never even heard of. Same sort of turn out usually reserved for the Pizza thingy.

Can’t see anything other than a sound thrashing for Pools.

We’ve made nine changes and completely rested Horsfall and Madden which says it all.

A couple of players can get themselves into the league team with good performances and a couple might be out the club with bad.

I see a lot of clubs are charging full price for this EFL Competition. hardly an incentive to get out and watch especially if you've two home games in a week.

Hull went ahead with a pretty jammy goal. Lewis made a great save to tip it onto the bar and it reflects back off his head and goes in. After that we seemed to gain some confidence. Andy Cook scores with a fantastic header and then doubles his tally five minutes later with a well worked routine.

Deserve to be winning. Just need more of the same for the second half.

2-0 Up at half-time, think Crewe made more changes than us and we've put out a pretty strong 11 with an even stronger bench. Hurst must have decided to 'go for it'.

3-0 Up and someone flying a drone over Blundell Park: Ref has stopped the game and took the players off the pitch!

All sorted, won 4-0.

Sounds like we didn't create much but we've held Blackpool and are off to the shoot out.

Beat Hull 2-1, showed some real character in that game, first time this season I can say I was proud of how we played.
