Such a shame there's always a few Millwall idiots that undermine all the good work that their club does in the community. The people at the club must be so fucked off because they surely must do the most community work in the football league, yet no one ever remembers because of the knuckle draggers they attract on big days out
Well done Barnsley, the better team and better supporters. I'm confident that there are subscribers on here who would like to see something finally done about Millwall but wouldn't bother to hold their breath. There was certainly no national coverage about the damaged Bradford coaches so I suppose it didn't happen.
Anyway, back to a decent club, why is Hecky still caretaker manager?

These things happen when you have 50k plus people at an event, and I would wager, those responsible probably have very little to do with Millwall. If anything at all.

Congrats Barnsley, from a team who were bottom of the league in December it's an incredible turn around.

Pointless but predictable Bradford goading. It's a non-starter what Bradford might have done if we had been in the final because we weren't good enough to get there, Millwall were.

Even had we beaten Millwall, i'm not sure anyone was beating Barnsley today. There's often something almost irresistable about the momentum teams have in the play offs when the sneak in on the last day of the season, almost unexpectedly. We've done it ourselves in the past and so it's proven with Barnsley with their comprehensive beatings of Walsall and now Millwall.

The kids I was with got splattered in beer from a bottle of beer thrown by the Barnsley fans. Also, several tried to get at us past the cordon before the game. But these things happen. Fuck off you, sensitive c***.

'these things happen'...they really shouldn't though. Its pathetic that people still want to fight over football. And it really shouldn't be dismissed so out of hand when 'these things happen' involve people that really don't want to be involved. If two sets want to fight each other then whatever, but getting at people who dont is out of order whoever it is.

Anyways, congratulations Barnsley. Thoroughly deserved.

Put 30,000 pissed up people together on a high street you're gonna have a few fights, why should it be any different for football supporters? Biggest difference is that 99.9999999999999% of the time football supporters never seriously injure anyone, where as night outs throw up a serious injuries like confetti.

Moral panics are pathetic. We move on. Everyone is fine. Life is too fucking short, for fuck's sake.

Fair play to Barnsley, they never seem to hang around long in the lower leagues, unlike bigger clubs such as Sheff Utd, Cov, Bradford, Portsmouth, Plymouth etc.

As far as I can tell no one actually did fight though, a tiny percentage of people tried to get near to some other people (who don't appear bothered by it).

If there was any genuine violence and anyone got hurt then I'll absolutely condemn it. But people need to stop wetting their pants just because it's Millwall.

I think they've been in the 2nd tier of English football more years than any other club so it's certainly there natural home. Bit random adding Plymouth to your list wasn't it?

Delighted to be out of this league. Great end to a great season.

Millwall boys scared me to death though. Saw a group of them kicking a legless, armless toddler about before we got into the ground. Then, from my seat almost directly behind our goal, I peered over the other end of the ground and saw a fella clearly mouth the words 'I'm gonna cut you caaant!' while making a cut throat gesture at me. He looked exactly like this...

Worrying times. Have a lot of family and friends who went down including my 19 year old cousin. She hasn't texted me since full time. She may be just enjoying herself with her mates too much to have thought to contact me, but I think it's far more likely she's been kicked to death on her way back to train station.

Congrats to Barnsley, a pretty much unbroken run of success since "that" FA cup game.

There wasn't any violence, there were some faked tweets.

Even if nothing happened today theres still plenty of 'these things happen' comments wrt football violence as if that makes it acceptable.

Nothing happened, some tanked up gents tried to get to some people who didn't actually care.

'These things happen,' was meant in that respect, and not in relation to any football violence.

Surely they were singing winnalls on fire
Either way still, cringe.

Hull were singing 'Will Grigg's on fire' in their changing room after the game yesterday; it's as if people actually believe Wigan started the chant - thieving bastards.

Was the way it came across to me but fair enough if it wasn't intended that way. Although I still don't think 'tanked up gents tried to get to some people' is particularly fantastic, whether its to be expected or not.

I feel sorry for the massive majority of genuine Millwall supporters but enough is enough.
The Barnsley supporters in that top tier went for a day out and I don't care how small the actual trouble was, it's time Millwall were punished.
Every time they take a big support to Wembley, some (a minute minority) kick off. The only way to stop this is to take action against Millwall.
99% are decent fans, like the rest of us but the 'element' always let the club down. It's too often though and if the club can't sort their own 'supporters' out then ban them from every club ground in Britain.
If you can't take losing, don't bloody let them attend at all!

To be fair to them the majority are having a go at what they saw from their fans...clearly not a myth then. And in fairness to Millwall I'm sure its the minority giving the majority a bad rep with past history meaning they all get tagged with the same labels.

So what's the answer then WTGR? Every time they lose a final, their assholes want to kick off. Imagine if that was the Blades, my lot or any other team with their own sizeable 'elements'. I really do feel for the genuine Millwall massive majority but this is 2016, enough is enough isn't it?

Right, my summary falls into 4 distinct categories:

Mystic Matt
I think the big pitch will suit their wingers too who are very dangerous (Hamill and Isgrove), especially with us missing our right back for the playoffs.
Our biggest strength is the two strikers, so all about whether we manage to get them any service.

I don't mind us going in as 'underdogs', takes a bit of the pressure off.
There's relatively little in the form argument as mentioned above, although in the league games this season we have come off second best.
My main concern is that the large decent pitch favours their game over ours due to their flying wingers. I think we will score, so its a question of whether we are able to keep them out at the other end.

Turns out I do know what I'm talking about re: Football. Disappointing to have my fears realised quite so thoroughly, but I also see us as favourites for the league next year so hopefully my prescience will continue...

Credit where it's due
So Barnsley are a very good side, with tremendous individual quality and a decent set of fans (at least on here). Result was disappointing but doesn't leave a bad taste in the mouth as they clearly deserved it on the day. Losing 3 of our back 4 for the game clearly didn't help our organisation, but truth be told we had more issues in midfield than defence and I suspect we may well have lost by the odd goal regardless. Congrats Barnsley and enjoy the Championship (it's fucking horrible up there though!)

Our Performance
Poor all over the pitch with the vaunted Gregory and Morison partnership being completely isolated and Gregory (unfit?) barely touch the ball in 90 minutes. The wingers largely did ok, although the lack of ability to beat a man became increasingly frustrating. Central midfield looked very agricultural with the usually excellent Thompson being overawed by the occasion and Jimmy demonstrating why people are so torn on him.
Edwards at right back looked every inch the 38 year old and Craig looked a player who hadn't played competitive football in 6 months (which was largely true). Beevers was immense despite the defeat and was clearly the best player in Blue on the pitch. I hope we are able to persuade him to stay another year. Archer could do very little with the goals.

The Trouble
Yes it was overblown by the media and on here. Yes it was largely the hangers-on and yes it happens at other 'problem' clubs, but I'm fucking sick of it. Sick of going into the office Monday to lots of coy comments and raised eyebrows. Sick and fucking tired of debates with my wife as to whether its safe to take my young son. Sick of being embarrassed at watching our fans fight amongst themselves, with the police, with stewards or with opposing fans. I seriously doubt anyone was stabbed, or that any disabled people were attacked despite the usual claims otherwise. I don't particularly mind if our fans want to pick fights with like-minded c*** from other clubs in bars in the evening, but the stuff in and around the stadium has got to stop. I'd propose 3 things, and I'm well aware that other wall fans won't like it but to paraphrase our song: "I Don't Care".

  1. No Alcohol to be sold at any games involving Millwall FC, period. To either side, so as not to tempt morons from going in the wrong end to get tanked up. Clearly drunk people to be turned away at the gate.
  2. Games at Wembley involving Millwall to be no later and a 12.30 kick-off, to minimise time for people to get pissed before the game.
  3. No tickets to be sold to the general public for Wembley matches (same as our 'usual' away fans policy). Members only. Guest tickets available only to members with at least 3 years 'clean bill of health' as supporters.
I've fucking had it with the c*** who join up for the big games and cause shit like today. The result hasn't helped my mood, my frankly getting to Wembley should have been a good reward for a season of overachievment. Instead it feels like yet another opportunity presented for wankers on message boards to throw more mud at a club I love.

What's the answer then Matt? Much as I respect the real Millwall fans, this can't be accepted any more can it?
I see your 3 proposals but the alcohol one just won't work as the idiots will always find a beer somewhere and somehow manage to get tickets. Fair play for having a go though.

See the 3 suggested 'punishments' in my long post at the bottom.

Sorry Matt, we're crossing posts mate.
I have commented on your ideas. However commendable, can you honestly see them working?
The likes of yourself, I really do feel for and I know my clubs' fans are no angels but enough is enough now as you intimated. I can't see anything but a really severe punishment for the club you love WTGR.

I can only speak from my own experience today Matt, but social media has contributed to this being blown up way out of proportion from what I saw. There was a bit of handbags on Wembley way but nothing that wouldn't have happened with tanked up Bradford fans too. The only bit of real concerning trouble I experienced was when some dickhead Barnsley fan tried having a go at my bro-in-law after too many shandies.

I'm certainly not condoning it...no idea really although the Millwall fan has come up with some good suggestions.

FWIW I dont see a punishment on the club having any effect. The club need video footage and lifetime bans for those involved in owt deemed serious enough.
