Binning off the league cup is fine, the only clubs that care too much about it are league 1 and 2 clubs, so just put all the prize money into the EFL Trophy, fuck the b teams off and give the winners a Europa League spot. Would make it a worthwhile (and winnable) competition.

It depends.

The League Cup currently makes up 30% of the EFL solidarity payment so it's quite a lucrative competition where most L1 and L2 clubs only play one or two games in. If that 30% money is still in the pot somewhere then fine.

Doubt clubs outside the top six will want the league cup gone, especially if the top six don’t want to compete in it.

I'd keep the League Cup and just exclude those in Europe and replace with the 2 relegated to the National League each season and however many others from whoever finished highest the season before.

Give the winner a spot in the Europa League and sides like Newcastle and West Ham might start taking it seriously.

Yeah, it happens, now and again, generally clubs fall upon it by chance, despite not particularly taking it seriously in the first few rounds.

FA cup is more what clubs look towards for the extra pay day, even the ‘other’ cup.

You do suspect they mostly expect these sort of proposals to fail a few times but if they keep bring it up it'll start sounding more reasonable and get passed eventually.
